NGD!! Epi Sheraton
couldn't resist. i used to have one of these but it had a thin neck and wouldn't hold tune well. these days they have big necks and the vintage sunburst they do now is beautiful. haven't even pulled the plastic off yet. http://picasaweb.google.ca/exhausted1975/EpiphoneSheratonII# 0% days will be the death of me. what…

Chord Chemistry
I want to get into complex chords to add some flavour and variety to my playing so I asked my guitar instructor if there were any books he recommended and he said to get....Chord Chemistry by Ted Greene. Has anybody used this book before or know much about it. I read some reviews online about it and it sounds really good…

My band has its first headlining gig on Saturday. We've played a ton of open mics, but this is our first full gig. If anyone is in the Marlboro area, check us out! http://www.cheesemerge.com/images/Sullys-Flyer3-Oct-4.jpg http://www.cheesemerge.com And yes, I promise you will hear more than 1 PJ tune.

so i dropped my '74 marshall jmp today...
so i played a gig this evening at a winery. i use a 1974 marshall jmp and a 4x12 marshall 1960 av cab with vintage 30s. when i load in and out i just place the head on top of the cab but perpendicular to it so that the feet on the bottom of the head kind of cradles the top of the cab so i can roll it in and out as a unit.…

Hot British Pedal
I did a search on the Hot British and couldn't find what I was looking for so I thought I would post this question. Does anybody own or have played a Hot British and what do you think of it. A company called Radial Engineering makes this pedal and I was on their web site listening to some sound samples and this pedal…

I've added 'Black' to my acoustic set

Anyone familiar with Pearl Vision series drums?
Does anyone own or know anything about the Pearl Vision series drums? I'm planning on upgrading from a Pearl Export kit but I'm wondering if that's really even a big upgrade there. Any help would be appreciated!

how to get the pearl jam guitar sound!
ok, after reading xtreme's rant thread, and realizing how many people ask about this, i figured id make a thread about it, from what i know, and from giventowail.com(A LOT from giventowail.com) some of this may sound stupid to people who already know a lot about pearl jam's tone, but this is mainly to help the newbies…

check out my fingerpickin' videos
i've been working on melodic fingerpicking arrangements of songs, since singing is not my strong point and you can't just strum chords to songs all by yourself and have it be a complete song and i've also had this idea for many years to record an album of instrumental christmas songs to mail to all my friends and family…

Digital 8 track
I'm looking into doing some home recording and wondering what any of your opinions on a good digital recorder to get started with?

Rant
First of all, this is to no particular person-please don't take it personally... Now, I come to the M&G forum to read up on gear...NOT to give input on a new band. Someone joins the board only to put up links to the band or get input on their playing. Don't get me wrong, I've messaged a few people and shared some of my…

Quick review: Korg pitchblack
So, as I mentioned in an earlier thread, I've been needing to get a new tuner, as my older Korg handheld unit was finally crapping out after three years on my pedalboard. I had assumed I would end up with a Boss TU-2, since every musician who can perform simple arithmetic seems to use one. I've tried them out and found…

Advice on amps
Hey guys just thought i would drop a thread in on something that im curious about. I have been doing some preliminary research for a while on different amps and have come to the juncture where I am wondering what is best for me. Like alot of people, I am after something that will give me a great clean tone but also dirty…

Mike McCready's "speed"?
I've never wanted to shred like teh brootalz, but I've always had a fascination of the speed that guys like SRV and McCready had when it came to the blues. How is it that they got so damn fast? I can somewhat play fast pentatonic wankery, but sometimes McCready runs from the high e to like the a string in such a blazing…

I think I finally figured out Modes.
Something that was so simple, but never explained in such a way. I started by focusing on Dorian. A Dorian to be exact. Which is A B C D E F# G. So I drew a diagram of a fretboard, visualized all of it, marked down the notes. And damn, the G Major Scale was right there in front of me. I'll never know why I had such a hard…

Rhythm Playing
Does anybody know of any good exercises that work on rhythm playing technique? Different strum patterns, and different timings? Is the best way to learn great rhythm playing to learn all different styles and songs or are there specific practice exercises? Thanks

playing loud music/hearing loss
my head was pounding all day from last nights practice i do believe, basically any time you experience loud noise to the point it hurts or your ears ring, you suffer hearing loss - which is permanent and not coming back i used to wear headphones listening to a cassette player every single day in high school and…

I'm pretty excited. We got a last minute call to fill in at a band promotion night tonight, just a half hour set, and Betterman made the cut. This will be my first time playing a PJ song out. Wish me luck !! I'm gonna need it. WE are doing a bunch of neew stuff for us, and I'm solid on somer of it, but feel a bit thaky on…

drinking the NOS tube kool-aid
I've never been much interested in buying up old USA made tubes like some folks since everything my amps use are in current production anyway. Plus I probably don't have trained enough ears to hear the difference anyway. However I do have this fender reverb unit reissue that comes with a 6V6 power tube. But the circuit is…

Thanks for giving me the confidence to go out and get a guitar. knowing you're all here makes this a lot easier for me. and you can all definitely expect a tons of more questions :)…
