I was wondering your astute opinions on your favorite boosts and thier characteristics. I know several of you have OCD's. how do they sound as boosts. Greg I know…

Advice for recording gear
Hay Guise, So, I'm a guy on a budget trying to get a good well rounded set of gear. Right now My roommate and I are using a Fast Track USB ($99) interface and a SHURE SM58, but he is moving out and we are splitting the goods. So here's what I'm thinking: If I keep the interface and give him the mic, I can sell it at my…

File under category: Money I shouldn't have spent
I just bit the bullet and picked up a Radial PZ-Pre acoustic preamp/DI for my acoustic-electric. There are some potential gigs in the near future, and I needed something to give me some further control over my tone during gigs (my guitar has an aftermarket pickup with no preamp controls). If you've never seen them, they're…

Fender Blender
Well, I bought it a couple years ago from Monster78. Thing is, it always seemed a bit off. There was a huge volume cut but if I kicked it, the thing would recover. During the summer, it stopped recovering and just died. I took it in and, after three months, the Flender is shot. I don't really know what to do. I can still…

Guitar Instructor
Hi there. I need some advice once again. I live about 30 - 35 minutes from my guitar instructor because we have both moved in the last year. So for me to go to a half hour lesson that's about 2 hours out of my night once a week. I am thinking of getting another instructor who is local but I am worried that I won't get the…

Fender Blues Deluxe Reissue.....adjusting tube bias
I may or may not be the only one here who owns this amp, not sure. so this is for FYI. well, I've decided that the stock Groove Tubes aren't great. breaks up too soon on the clean channel and the lows are flabby. reading on the internet, seems Groove Tubes have a mixed reputation and some (or most) of them are just tubes…

just an exercise in getting my protools legs back (mp3 inside)
this is a work in progress. i haven't recorded anything in ages besides clips so this is just an exercise in recording, creating tones, messing with guitar rig (there is some insanely cool stuff in there) as a plug-in etc. just to get the hang of it again. still have to add bass and vocals (if i can think of lyrics that…

Kings of Leon's Closer - Played with the mouth?!
Hey all, I saw Kings of Leon the other night for the second time. Great show, although I'm a bit iffy on the polish of the new album. Anyway, they opened with Closer, one of the highlights off the new album in my opinion, and I noticed Matthew was playing his guitar with his mouth. Does anybody know what it is he's doing…

New song from my bands recent recording session...
We're called Offshore Radio...the song's called Midas. It hasn't been mastered yet but it already sounds a million times better than any of the other recordings we've done. Please check it out and let me know what you think! http://www.myspace.com/offshoreradioband

What's your favorite mic to record guitar?
Of course it all depends on the chain of compressors, mic pre's, and so on... but don't worry about that.;) Lately I've been digging how a Royer 121 sounds when miked on a cabinet. For acoustics, I've been getting some good results using the mid-side technique. Using a Neumann U87 as the mid, and a AKG C414 as the side.

Ear Plugs Questions
Ok now Im in a band and wear those foam roll up ear plugs when we play, I mean I can still hear the music just a bit muffled but at least it protects my hearing. But the kind of ear plugs that Musicians wear like pearl Jam for example, how do those work, and do they work 100 % for protecting your hearing? cause I heard…

Chatted w/Davy Knowles from BDS last night!
