just an exercise in getting my protools legs back (mp3 inside)
this is a work in progress. i haven't recorded anything in ages besides clips so this is just an exercise in recording, creating tones, messing with guitar rig (there is some insanely cool stuff in there) as a plug-in etc. just to get the hang of it again. still have to add bass and vocals (if i can think of lyrics that…

Record Players/Turntables
I've never owned a turntable and would like to get one (so I can listen to Chinese Democracy on Vinyl ;) ). What do I need to know about them? Which one should I get? Can I just pick one up off of craigslist for $25-$45 dollars and will it sound the same as one from Best Buy for $150. Will I need a receiver? Can I use…

Phase 90 or phase 100
I'm thinking of getting a phaser that doesn't suck tone, like my digitech hyper phase. Problem is, I want to have the options my digi has (well, mainly the first type of phaser). Anyway, which would you all suggest I get?

Kings of Leon's Closer - Played with the mouth?!
Hey all, I saw Kings of Leon the other night for the second time. Great show, although I'm a bit iffy on the polish of the new album. Anyway, they opened with Closer, one of the highlights off the new album in my opinion, and I noticed Matthew was playing his guitar with his mouth. Does anybody know what it is he's doing…

New song from my bands recent recording session...
We're called Offshore Radio...the song's called Midas. It hasn't been mastered yet but it already sounds a million times better than any of the other recordings we've done. Please check it out and let me know what you think! http://www.myspace.com/offshoreradioband

What's your favorite mic to record guitar?
Of course it all depends on the chain of compressors, mic pre's, and so on... but don't worry about that.;) Lately I've been digging how a Royer 121 sounds when miked on a cabinet. For acoustics, I've been getting some good results using the mid-side technique. Using a Neumann U87 as the mid, and a AKG C414 as the side.

this is a desperate attempt to see if anyone who loves my favorite band is from the Columbia, MO area, or even the STL or K.C. area that would be interested in jamming. been playing guitar for about 10 years and searching for that stone/mike-type of musical connection. i'm a second year graduate student at UMC, so i'm not…

my new best friend
Instead of a new Casino (remember my post about that one), I went and got me this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/stefanv/3018472289 Harmony Rocket '60. Pretty rare to find in Belgium. It sounds spectacular. Love those old Dearmonds. All original except grover tuners and Gibson bridge. Paid a little bit more than a new…

Ear Plugs Questions
Ok now Im in a band and wear those foam roll up ear plugs when we play, I mean I can still hear the music just a bit muffled but at least it protects my hearing. But the kind of ear plugs that Musicians wear like pearl Jam for example, how do those work, and do they work 100 % for protecting your hearing? cause I heard…

Chatted w/Davy Knowles from BDS last night!
SO my buddy scored free, front row, dead center tickets to the Govt Mule/Back Door Slam off WPLR for the show in Wallingford, Ct last night, and since I got him into Back Door Slam about a year ago, he invited me to go with him. I was ecstatic because I've never got to see Back Door Slam yet, nor Govt Mule, so I was beyond…

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPAmydQsozU From the clean, dreamy Hendrix-ish sounds to the raunchy, dirty solo...I absolutely LOVE the tones on this album.

Angus Young
What does everybody think about Angus Young? I'm going to see AC/DC on January 9th in Toronto. It should be great! Is Angus a bluesy player? Most of his licks sound bluesy to me.

Neil Young's Tone
In Downtown is absolutely awesome. I love his guitar tone in that song. It sounds to me like he's using a TS 9. Does anybody know for sure?

New to this section, Quick pedal question...
Hey guys, new to this section, i had a quick question. I have been playing for about 15 years, mostly always acoustic and 12 string. Amp blew on me a week or so ago. Got a new Fender Frontman 212 2X12. and i would like to get some pedals with this new profound sound. I am leaning towards a Dunlpo crybaby, Ibanez TS-9 Tube…

For all of you that write & record your material
When writing a new song, do you tend to nitpick over the details or just bang it out? Do you try to finish the song and record it ASAP, or let it ferment and play it a bunch and see what needs fixing over time? I know some songs burst out and others take a long time to finally get fleshed out, but I have been…

Time to buy electric!
Hey jammers! I'm sure this post pops up here a lot, but it's time to retire the acoustic for awhile and check out electric. I need help in finding a good guitar/amp! I love the old grungy distortion, but I also love the mellow sound of the strat on ledbetter. I'm also am obsessed with the guitar Ed uses on wishlist,…

What string gauge do you play?
.10-.46 (GHS Boomers), but I'm considering moving up to .10-.52 As an aside, I had a harder time bending and adjusting at first moving from .9 to .10 a few months ago, but playing only an acoustic while away at college has made bending a complete breeze :)

Gretsch guitars
So, I'm a man a long ways away from having enough money for another guitar (I currently own a Telecaster), so I tend to poke around just for fun. That being said, I tried a Gretsch today for the first time, along with the Bigsby bar. Holy moses. The sound shook the room; it was worlds away from the usually thin, crisper…

Unthought Known? Eddie in NJ
I don't know how many people have heard it, but such a simple song and such great lyrics. 48 hours old when he played it in NJ. I tried to figure out the chords, but I'm a beginner so if anyone can figure out the chords during the chorus that would be great. I think the verse is: F , C , C7 and then the chorus starts with…

changing tubes and changing amp bias
I think I want to change my tubes. I was reading that manual and it says that when changing to different tubes, sometimes the amp bias has to be adjusted. I don't know anything about this, but I'm fairly sure it's something I don't want to get into. the amp is a Fender Blues Deluxe Reissue with stock groove tubes 3x 12ax7…
