ok, after reading xtreme's rant thread, and realizing how many people ask about this, i figured id make a thread about it, from what i know, and from giventowail.com(A LOT from giventowail.com) some of this may sound stupid to people who already know a lot about pearl jam's tone, but this is mainly to help the newbies asking about their tone.
i am not taking credit for much of this, because i got a lot of it by compiling stuff from gtw, but hopefully itll help some people out
ill start with mike:
for the most part, you can get a close sound to his with almost any strat or les paul type guitar, with the occasional tele thrown in there. he uses thesetwo guitars for the majority of the songs.
the amps he uses are marshall plexis and fenders. his exact models are pretty expensive, but you can get a descently close sound with some cheaper amps as well. two very descent amps for a reasonable price i would reccomend are:

http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Fender-Hot-Rod-Series-Blues-Junior-15W-1x12-Tube-Guitar-Combo-Amp?sku=481861
as for pedals, mike has a pretty large amount of them. the main ones, however, are:
dunlop 535Q wah_i have one of these and can not get enough of it. a real workhorse of a wah. plus it has a built in boost switch.
ibanez ts9-any guitarist should have this overdrive pedal. enough said
dunlop univibe- great effects pedal. not really necessary if you are just trying to get a descently close replication of his tone.
he uses many other pedals as well, but if you are just trying to replicate his main tone, the ones listed are the ones to look at. here is a link to se all of his past and present pedals: http://giventowail.com/gearlist.php?who=mike&what=pedals
on to stone:
as with mike, stones main guitar tyes are les pauls, strats and teles.
i would also reccomend the same amps for his tone.they are very versital amps.
pedals:really just the same as mike if you are trying to get close. heres a better list. http://giventowail.com/gearlist.php?who=stone&what=pedals
on that note, i guess ive contributed what i could. again, this is just for people trying to get a descently close sound to pearl jam. it is not a list of the exact equiptment they use. ive reccommended some affordable amps, and ae plenty good if you are not an experienced guitarist, and do not want to spend a lot of money. others, feel free to correct, make suggestions, and add info to this thread.
please visit giventowail.com for more in depth info
hope this helps somebody!
