just placed an order.

tweed princeton 5F2A. i ordered this one with a jensen P10R and sprague atoms.

i wanted a low-watt 6V6 in the stable and had the itch to build again.

i figured i've got the BF deluxe and princeton and a tweed deluxe so i needed a tweed princeton.

still left the cabinet unlacquered. i'm planning on lacquering both this and my deluxe cabinet during my time off.

my deluxe is also getting a jensen P12Q shortly. i found a demo speaker online for a good price.

    hell no. that thing rocks.
  • Man, you must be a good electronics tech. It would take me a year to put something like that together, and I worked for the telephone company for 20 years. Way to go and I hope you end up with an awesome class A amp.

i made lots of pedal and built a couple amps now. plus a bunch of amp/guitar/pedal modification. i know enough to be dangerous and have never really tackled anything too complicated like a vox AC30 or anything.

but it's lots of fun and i've learned a lot about how to tweak an amp to get it where I want it now.

Very nice! Can't wait to see your new baby develop!..

Some of the most popular threads here are when you are dazzling us with your nerdiness! Kudos to you to have the expertise and patience. Must be a great feeling when you create something and it's finished.
  • You go, man!
You do great work on that stuff. Maybe it'll inspire you to make some more music, too. It would be great to hear some new music coming from The Exhausted!

I have the urge to play around with high voltage things lately. I wouldn't mind trying out a good Orange clone if I can find one. Maybe start with an 18 watt Marshall something or other. I could add that to my list of unfinished projects.
I was looking at Ceriatone, too. I'm not sure if one company is better than the other yet.

i've been trying to make more music but i just don't have it in me. i'm hoping my two months away from work will yield some opportunities.

weber is making a 100W orange kit:
    https://taweber.powweb.com/store/kits_60b.htm#6o100

they also have a 50W hiwatt now.

i'm kind of hoping they pop out either a brownface deluxe or a vox AC15 clone someday.

ceriatone is quite good from what i understand and they have lots of selection.

i bought my tweed kits from marshamps.com. those are essentially the kits from mojo musical supply. they sell an 18W too.

my 18W is a weber and, apart from a couple parts substitutions i should have made (pots, switches, jacks) it was fine. they're shipping kits with better switches and jacks now.
  • i have to say that i'm not musical in any way but i find this so exciting:)
i loved the last one you did and am excited to see another:)

it is fun to build these things that's for sure. especially when they work.

2.0 of my tweed deluxe is alive and well.

    cleaned up the grounding:

    http://picasaweb.google.ca/exhausted1975/MarshAmpsFenderTweedDeluxe5E3Clone#5240894154562317554

it's very quiet. a hair more hum than my fender-made amps but less than my self-built 18w marshall and totally negligible from a signal to noise sort of perspective.

    new speaker and input capacitors:

and of course everyone's asleep so i can't give it a run right now. :(

my only concern is that, when i had the last speaker in, i changed the input caps to cut some bass so we'll see if there is too little bass now with this new speaker. looking at the curves for the old speaker and this new one, it shouldn't be an issue.

Finally arrived. Pics to start rolling in soon but the build won't start for a while. Need to finish a new 18w chassis first.

one thing that surprised me off the bat was the size of the cabinet. it's relatively huge. same height as a 5E3. just narrower and a little shallower. could easily fit a 12" speaker in there but it's got a 10" which is already a step up from the 8" the original had.

Stick with the 10". I've always been a fan of big cabinets. That's my addiction with Avatar, their 2x12 and 2x10 cabinets (traditional and vintage) are absolutely huge. Sure it's bulky but tone wise it's the way to go. I'm trying to convince the wife to let me get a 2x10 traditional through them, same size as my 2x12.
