I know it's pointless to call put the hypocrisy here, but after seeing a guy at Wrigley in a MAGA hat worn backwards to presumably "trigger" the people behind him (he was in the first row, for the record) it has been on my mind. It's cool if he wants to wear that and express his opinion, but you can't get mad when it comes back around on you.
Too bad the guy didn't have the balls to wear it frontwards so the band could see it. We might have gotten some even more spicy comments from Ed.

Another reason to find better ways to reduce bullying. The shooter was described as a quiet kid who got sick and tired of being bullied and shot 6 other students, killing one, before taking his own life.
More tragedy in everyday life in America.

so i was at a local church carnival last night and shots rang out twice.
we got there at 6:15 pm and went to hang out in the beer garden. we do it every year and it is kind of a mini high school reunion where we see people we went to school with and we just hang out and have a few beers. the band started at 7:00 in the beer garden. the crowd was massive. it was the biggest turnout i have seen at this carnival in at least 10 years. there were a lot of police walking around and lots of crowds of teenagers in the carnival area. we had no interest in riding rides or getting cotton candy or anything like that so we stayed in the beer garden.
where we were standing we could see groups of kids fighting and then they would stop. as time went on more and more police would show up and then kids would start fighting again. at 8:45 an announcement was made that they were shutting down the carnival at 9 pm due to fighting and violence. they were shutting it down for everyone's safety. to us, since the beer garden was safe, this meant we better go get as many beers as we can in the next 15 minutes before they shut everything down. my friend came back with 4 more beers, so we were going to hang out there and let the crowd disperse before we went to go find our car.
about 9:15 of 9:20 another fight broke out by the exit and a whole swarm of people ran towards the church buildings to our right. this was running the opposite way from the exits. lots of kids just totally frightened. then a minute later they all ran back to our left towards the exits. at that moment we heard 3 loud pops in quick succession. my friend and i looked at each other like "that's gunshots!". we got down underneath our table. the adults in the beer garden started to freak out. the teenagers ran into the beer garden fleeing the shots. they actually had to tell adults what to do in a shooter situation, get down, stay low, and crawl towards safety. many people fled. we did not know which way to go, so we just stayed where we were. then a few minutes later police helicopter began to circle shining it's spotlight looking for suspects. it circled for at least 15 minutes. then police in body armor with long guns ready to go began to enter into the area and secure it. then about 9:45 another burst of 3 shots rang out. these sounded further away like in the surrounding neighborhood. it was in the opposite way of where we needed to go so we made our way to the exit and across the street in between the police cars. at that time we heard more pops, but this was fireworks from the neighborhood being shot into the air. presumably to distract the police copter that was still flying around. it just added to the craziness. if that had happened while the kids were fleeing it would have been pandemonium because everyone was already freaked out and on edge.
by the time we got out of there there were at least 60 or 70 police cars there. cops everywhere. the response time was great. we ended up getting out of there and going to a bar to wind down a bit. it was the craziest thing i have witnessed in a long time. i am glad nobody was hit. there were social media posts saying 2 people were dead. i had to get on there and squash that because we were among the last ones in there and unequivocally we did not see any ambulances or medivac helicopters or anything like that. the police came in like a military unit and cleared the area. i have a lot of pics and video of the aftermath but did not catch the shots.

Fucking horrible and INSANE! Glad you’re ok and that this isn’t one of my worst nightmares, that given enough time, the number of guns and “responsible” gun owners, that it’s just a matter of time before I open up the forums and see a poster or their loved one(s) was a victim of a mass shooting or gun violence. Odds don’t seem to be in my favour.

Holy shit, dude, I'm glad you and your friends (and everybody, for that matter) are OK. What a bummer that a small minority of people can totally ruin a good time. I hope they found all the perpetrators.

thanks man. it was surreal. one minute we are hanging out listening to music and having a few beers with old friends and a few minutes later they are closing up the carnival and then shots were fired. i do not know anything about the people arrested yet. i have not seen the names. i am guessing they are minors because that would be the only reason to not release the names. as far as we know all of the perpetrators were arrested.
yeah i thought something like that would never happen. especially in maryland heights where the cops are known to be militarized and they do not play around. i was reading today that the church may decide to not have this carnival next year. i hope that is not the case because it is always such a fun time and i think that is how that church raises money each year.
earlier that evening we were talking about our teenage years and about how every fall there were 3 big carnivals on back to back to back weekends. as teenagers everyone would go and try to meet/hang out with girls outside of school. later in september we had the "switch dance" where the girls would ask guys to the dance. attending these carnivals helped to make sure you got asked by someone. i am not sure how the kids do it today, but back then that was a good way to meet people. it's a shame that people have to show up and fire shots.
i am sure some other posters here have had a similar experience at some point. with the amount of guns around, the law of averages says they have.

Just another “responsible” gun owner doing their thing with an AR15. So yea, stay vigilant and get a gun because you never know. And, umm, it is who your community is. POOTWH assassination attempt, school shooting in GA and this. Any guesses to the commonality? Hint, it’s not a rock.
Five people shot on Kentucky highway; suspect still at large in woods
Nine vehicles were hit by gunfire, five people were shot and three were injured from car crashes, according to the sheriff’s office.
Kentucky authorities have intensified the search for a man accused of opening fire on Interstate 75, naming him as an official suspect Sunday in a shooting that injured five people from gunshots, three from car crashes and shut down a major highway the day before.
The search for Joseph Couch, 32, has continued for more than 24 hours in southeastern Kentucky after authorities came upon a chaotic scene Saturday, where they found cars riddled with bullet holes and sheriff’s deputies took some injured to the hospital. The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office warned Sunday that Couch is considered “armed and dangerous,” as they continued a difficult backwoods search with the help of federal agencies.
The search has been grueling, said Laurel County Sheriff John Root (R). Officials say they are focused on an area off Exit 49 of I-75, where Couch’s vehicle was found.
“That’s probably one of the most remote exits along I-75,” Root said during a news conference Sunday afternoon. “It’s a big task.”
The shooting occurred around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, according to Root. At least five people and nine vehicles were shot near Exit 49 of the highway, about eight miles north of the city of London, Root said. London, a city of about 7,600 people, is roughly a 75-mile drive south of Lexington.
An additional three people were injured in crashes around the shooting, Gilbert Acciardo, a spokesperson for the Laurel County Sheriff’s office, said in a news conference Sunday afternoon. The exact reason for the shooting is yet to be determined, Acciardo said, adding that it was not a road rage incident.
Authorities found “an AR-15” rifle and several loaded magazines in a wooded area near the interstate, Acciardo said. Authorities believe this is the weapon used in the shooting Saturday evening.
Authorities also found a compact SUV off a service road. The car is registered to Couch, officials said.
Authorities are focusing the search on top of the hill in the remote wooded area overlooking Exit 49 of I-75. The FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives have also been involved in the effort, authorities said.
“We are still going on the premise that he is up there in the woods,” Acciardo said. “The woods are so thick there, and it’s such a remote area — it’s slow-going.”
Those who were injured remain in the hospital as of Sunday evening, according to London Mayor Randall Weddle, who added that none of the victims were residents of Laurel County or London.
Weddle said in a Sunday night update to residents that he had been “shocked” to hear news of the shooting. “When we initially heard it, our feeling was, ‘is this even true?’”
“This act of violence doesn’t define us as a community,” Weddle said.
The interstate was shut down in the early hours of the search but was reopened late Saturday night, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear (D) said on X.
Laurel County Public Schools announced Sunday afternoon that, out of an abundance of caution, classes would be canceled for Monday.
“There is no immediate danger here in the city,” Weddle said. But “if you’re out and about, be vigilant.”

Oh man, seriously. I was thinking about that when I watched the news clip and those kids were being interviewed. It's hard enough at times being a teenager and here are these kids just trying to have a life and have a good time, and at the same time have to think about these dangerous shootings going on all over the country. I really feel for them. I just want to reach out and say, "Hey kids, I'm sorry things are so fucked up. Hang in there." Things have to change.

Yeah that's sad . And also parents . Most people have kids can't they all decide it's pointless to breed another generation of people who think owning a gun is a right and is in any way sensible. It's gone too far and there is no way back. That's the saddest part of all

It's a different mentality. The father of the kid in Georgia said that he'd never been more proud than the day his kid killed a deer and had the blood smeared on his cheeks for his "first kill." Really? You've never been more proud than when your armed kid murdered a defenseless animal for sport? I understand hunting is a way of life for a lot of people, but I just don't get that level of glorification of it. Maybe if parents sent a message to kids that they're proud of them when they apply themselves in school or volunteer at the local senior-citizens home or veterans' hospital, kids might act differently.
Yeah that video is unreal. More unreal is the fact that the kid put out all of the indicators that something would go down and there really wasn't much anyone could do about it.
This will be the argument for stricter gun control as these things continue to happen on a more frequent basis. In this case the indicators should have led to that entire house being emptied of weapons and a restriction placed on father/son to never purchase another weapon.

Great post, BF.
American Indians killed animals for food and used every part of the animal for many uses. But they honored the animal and gave it great respect. When today's hunters carry on the way you described, they are mocking the animal and showing total disrespect. And the whole idea of hunting as "sport" is low-bar mentality.

esthetic superiority of the dead animal to the live one.”

What a mess when you have more guns than people. And it's not a small population.

we got there at 6:15 pm and went to hang out in the beer garden. we do it every year and it is kind of a mini high school reunion where we see people we went to school with and we just hang out and have a few beers. the band started at 7:00 in the beer garden. the crowd was massive. it was the biggest turnout i have seen at this carnival in at least 10 years. there were a lot of police walking around and lots of crowds of teenagers in the carnival area. we had no interest in riding rides or getting cotton candy or anything like that so we stayed in the beer garden.
where we were standing we could see groups of kids fighting and then they would stop. as time went on more and more police would show up and then kids would start fighting again. at 8:45 an announcement was made that they were shutting down the carnival at 9 pm due to fighting and violence. they were shutting it down for everyone's safety. to us, since the beer garden was safe, this meant we better go get as many beers as we can in the next 15 minutes before they shut everything down. my friend came back with 4 more beers, so we were going to hang out there and let the crowd disperse before we went to go find our car.
about 9:15 of 9:20 another fight broke out by the exit and a whole swarm of people ran towards the church buildings to our right. this was running the opposite way from the exits. lots of kids just totally frightened. then a minute later they all ran back to our left towards the exits. at that moment we heard 3 loud pops in quick succession. my friend and i looked at each other like "that's gunshots!". we got down underneath our table. the adults in the beer garden started to freak out. the teenagers ran into the beer garden fleeing the shots. they actually had to tell adults what to do in a shooter situation, get down, stay low, and crawl towards safety. many people fled. we did not know which way to go, so we just stayed where we were. then a few minutes later police helicopter began to circle shining it's spotlight looking for suspects. it circled for at least 15 minutes. then police in body armor with long guns ready to go began to enter into the area and secure it. then about 9:45 another burst of 3 shots rang out. these sounded further away like in the surrounding neighborhood. it was in the opposite way of where we needed to go so we made our way to the exit and across the street in between the police cars. at that time we heard more pops, but this was fireworks from the neighborhood being shot into the air. presumably to distract the police copter that was still flying around. it just added to the craziness. if that had happened while the kids were fleeing it would have been pandemonium because everyone was already freaked out and on edge.
by the time we got out of there there were at least 60 or 70 police cars there. cops everywhere. the response time was great. we ended up getting out of there and going to a bar to wind down a bit. it was the craziest thing i have witnessed in a long time. i am glad nobody was hit. there were social media posts saying 2 people were dead. i had to get on there and squash that because we were among the last ones in there and unequivocally we did not see any ambulances or medivac helicopters or anything like that. the police came in like a military unit and cleared the area. i have a lot of pics and video of the aftermath but did not catch the shots.
here is a news clip about it.

Holy shit, dude, I'm glad you and your friends (and everybody, for that matter) are OK. What a bummer that a small minority of people can totally ruin a good time. I hope they found all the perpetrators.

yeah i thought something like that would never happen. especially in maryland heights where the cops are known to be militarized and they do not play around. i was reading today that the church may decide to not have this carnival next year. i hope that is not the case because it is always such a fun time and i think that is how that church raises money each year.
earlier that evening we were talking about our teenage years and about how every fall there were 3 big carnivals on back to back to back weekends. as teenagers everyone would go and try to meet/hang out with girls outside of school. later in september we had the "switch dance" where the girls would ask guys to the dance. attending these carnivals helped to make sure you got asked by someone. i am not sure how the kids do it today, but back then that was a good way to meet people. it's a shame that people have to show up and fire shots.
i am sure some other posters here have had a similar experience at some point. with the amount of guns around, the law of averages says they have.

This will be the argument for stricter gun control as these things continue to happen on a more frequent basis. In this case the indicators should have led to that entire house being emptied of weapons and a restriction placed on father/son to never purchase another weapon.
