Because every 14 year old should have access to an AR15. And why not?
• The weapon used in the mass shooting at Apalachee High School was an AR-15-style rifle, a law enforcement official told CNN. The official did not provide any information on how investigators believe the suspect obtained the weapon or any other details on the weapon and ammunition used.

Christ, this kid was interviewed with the dad last year due to allegations of him making threats about a school shooting. FBI and local authorities were involved. Dad admitted there were hunting guns in the house, but that his son didn't have access to them. Fuck that. Victim's families are going to have a field day with that lawsuit. How pathetic. I'd be enraged as a parent.

I’m outraged as a citizen of ‘Murica, you know, the “greatest” nation in human history.
Absolutely. No one that's not fighting in a war needs an automatic weapon in the first place, and even if they are legal, any parent that has one that is accessible to a kid is as guilty as the kid, maybe more. I really hope they are tried in a court of law.

One of my best friends is a lawyer here in Georgia and we talked about this last night. He told me that even though the shooter is being tried as an adult, as a minor, he can't get the death penalty. The max sentence he can get is life with parole.

Our shooter was released about a year ago...crazy shit right? Luckily no one died but his intent was obvious. The teacher saved a lot of lives that day.

That's bullshit. Judge should be reprimanded and they should have a new trial. I'd be livid!!

Like Ed said last night paraphrasing here This is the 1st week of school!
Pathetic that lots of folks got upset with him calling this issue out! I’m embarrassed to have been there in the building with them!
Ed should not forget, although the garden is in a solid blue state, some of the suburbs are solid trumplandia
Hey, it got us glorified g and gimme some truth (my interpretation)
There is a tension between the fact that the rock audience skews white and male, and the fact that white men skew conservative, especially as they age. So you end up with liberal rock artists playing for audiences that are disproportionately conservative (disproportionate to the population of New York City and New Jersey, in this case), and some of the people in that audience chafe at the disconnect. The classic example is Chris Christie being a diehard Springsteen fan. Christie loves Bruce but hates Bruce's politics. I think there are a lot of middle-aged white male Pearl Jam fans who became fans when they were 17 or 18 and didn't pay much attention to politics or political issues, who just connected with the feelings of angst and alienation in the music and who didn't flinch at Pearl Jam's transparently political songs like "W.M.A." and "Glorified G," to name two, but now they're caught in between their established love for the band, whose politics haven't changed, and their own embrace of conservative politics as they've gotten older.
I don't understand what it is Ed said that upset people?
people in new york apparently got butthurt again. i don't know exactly what was said but saw a few people on facebook complaining that apparently ed told people they need to vote and that women's rights were on the ballot and alluded to gun violence.
i guess at least it wasn't bushleaguer.

That's a really good point. Suburban white males as well. If they traveled to the show from east of the city...Trumplandia
What I hear from Ed's words seems to be from a deeply liberal heart (even in non political songs), but yes, the conservatives heard that as alienation and angst when they were younger

The father of the Apalachee High School shooting suspect has been arrested in connection with the shooting that left four people dead, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Colin Gray, 54, is facing four counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder and eight counts of cruelty to children, the GBI said Thursday.
His son, Colt Gray, a 14-year-old student, is accused of killing two students and two teachers with an AR-style rifle in the Wednesday shooting. Nine more people were hospitalized.
CNN is working to determine whether Colin Gray has legal representation. When reached by phone on Thursday, the Barrow County Public Defender’s Office could not confirm if they were representing him and had no comment.
Gray told investigators this week he had purchased the gun used in the killings as a holiday present for his son in December 2023, according to two law enforcement sources with direct knowledge of the investigation.
One source told CNN the AR-15-style rifle was purchased at a local gun store as a Christmas present. The timeline the teen’s father provided to authorities would put the gun purchase months after authorities first contacted Gray and his family to investigate school shooting threats made online.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia closed that investigation because the tip about the threat could not be substantiated.
CNN has made several attempts to reach Colin Gray by phone and in person at the family home.
Wednesday’s mass shooting, which happened just weeks into the new school year, was the 45th school shooting so far this year and the deadliest US school shooting since the March 2023 massacre at The Covenant School in Nashville that left six people dead.
wait, so the father purchased the gun as a christmas present AFTER the fbi paid them a visit? this dude needs to spend the rest of his life in jail.

I was in the third row that night, and I was born and raised in Brooklyn. I lost a high-school friend and a college friend in the attack on the World Trade Center. My brother was NYPD and spent several horrific months at Ground Zero. All of this is to say that I have a lot of insight into what New Yorkers were thinking and feeling at that time. I was adamantly and outspokenly against the invasion of Iraq, and that was a minority opinion. Thanksgiving dinner in 2002 was ugly. There were 19 people at the table and 18 of them saw things differently than I did. With all of that in mind, I don't think that the crowd "loved the Iraq invasion"-- at least I wouldn't put it that way. I think that the September 11 attacks were still an open wound in New York in April 2003, and there were a lot of people in the crowd who had lost loved ones, including first responders, in the attacks, and who were not in a space emotionally to grapple with criticisms of our government's response to the attacks, or of a president that they, rightly or wrongly, believed was standing up for them. I think the Bush presidency was a colossal failure, but I never appreciated the guy more than when he stood on the rubble and said that the people who knocked down the towers were going to be hearing from us. My brother and lots of other people like him never stopped appreciating Bush for that, and Ed pressed on a raw nerve.
I really think that was an unusual circumstance, and it's different than other situations where people say "shut up and sing." In most instances where people complain about artists expressing political opinions, their real problem is that they express opinions they don't agree with. They don't complain when artists express political opinions they agree with. The fans who burned Dixie Chicks records for their expression of shame that they were from the same state as Bush and told them to shut up and sing were, in many cases, the same fans who raised their fists and said "Right on!" when other country artists accused liberals of being un-American.
