I have about 8 songs that are just awesome. Some that are growing. Trying to wrap my head around Alright and Buckle Up. I dont dislike them, but they are somewhat challenging.
Just to compare to LB, I though 3-4 were awesome, and a couple grew. A couple were "fine" and eventually became bored with.
It’s too early for me to definitively rank it, because an album takes time to absorb.
All I wanted was something better than the last two. They did that. And more.

To each his own just gave it a listen on Bose speaker and definitely hard to listen after track 4, won’t surprise me if they don’t play many of these songs again after this tour. No classics here and it’s disappointing cause they are capable of classics at this stage.
The first song is borrowed from Far Behind but that is EV solo and his traditional solo material has differed from PJ, I would say PJ is known for rockers such as Rats, Do the Evolution. Why Go, Animal, Rearviewmirror, Corduroy, World Wide Suicide, Brain of J, Grievance, Green Disease, I could go on but you probably see the point the album has like 3 tracks that almost rock (SBWM probably the Gem of the album).

I suppose we are the strangest tribe then, cuz aside from DOTC nothing grabbed me or even compelled me to get through a whole song. WAAAAAAAY to keyboard heavy/forward.

I dug first 4 tracks and for me SBWM is best track on the album rocks musically and lyrically on LB Sirens was far and above better than anything on that album (although I dug that Getaway and MYM a lot)
Still trying to wrap my head around "Seven O'clock" and "Retrograde", but I love this record. Springsteen and The Who vibes, for sure.
A few other's have stated the same, and I'm in the camp with those folks that puts this (far, imho) above Backspacer & Lightening Bolt, but I'm not quite ready to put it above Avocado just yet (only 5 listens in).
The diversity is what makes this PJ, and for that I love it even more. Not to mention, I feel like they really took their time and worked on this record as a reflection of where we are in history right now.
If you want "rockers", "Never Destination" and "Quick Escape" are immediate classics, but there's so much more to this record.
Hope everyone is healthy and safe

If sounding like PJ means another Lightning Bolt or Backspacer, then I'm glad this was a bit of a departure. Had this album on repeat for several days and love it. Some songs grabbed me first listen, others took a little more time, but for me this is a great effort. Am I expecting a classic? Nope. For me, PJ are a legacy band. I don't expect another classic out of any legacy bands. But I am very happy that they are still pushing, and still challenging themselves. They took me on an unexpected ride with this one and I'm loving it.

For people who have lists with Binaural ranked any lower than the middle ranked album, give it another couple of full plays through. It’s so stood the test of time. I disliked it and Riot Act when they came out - having previously liked the first 5. Over time the songs on those two albums clicked with me, and damn, if I don’t listen to Binaural all the way through at least once a month for the past few years.
Based on the last couple albums, I wasn't expecting anything great. And in my opinion, this record isn't great. A couple of strong songs but, overall, more uninspired music from a band that can't seem to find its way or place anymore. I must say that Matt and Mike are killing it on this record but the vocals seem forced at times and the song structures seem to be all over the place. I'm all for a band changing sounds, or evolving, but the songs still need to be strong. I'm not feeling that here. I don't want or expect them to sound like they did 20+ years ago but I do want a great, new Pearl Jam record. I'm still waiting for that.
I haven't listened to this one enough to even rank it. FWIW: 1. VItalogy 2. Ten 3. Vs. 4. Yield 5. No Code 6. Avocado 7. Backspacer 8. Binaural 9. Riot Act 10. Lightning Bolt
TBD: Gigaton

Most people come into the listening experience with expectations.
If you wanted the album to sound like the first 6, then you will be disappointed for sure.
If you thought the album was going to sound like the last two, you will be surprised.
For me, the music is really strong. Yes, the messed around a lot with song structure, which takes a bit of getting used to. The lyrics are quite overdone in a couple of the tracks.
But every song has something that I like. SBWM and DOTC are absolutely fantastic. There’s about 5 others that really grab me.
This is a group of guys in their mid to late 50’s. I wasn’t looking for anything to sound like Blood, DTE, or Porch. Music has changed dramatically the last 25 years. PJ has changed too. The band is now playing more contemporary alt music. The songs have deeper context and meaning than they did in 1994.
It’s a really good album, it will age well. I’m really glad they got one more out to us!

Yep, its hard not to be grateful for getting good new music from a band that literally is the only one standing from their peers in their time period. It’s amazing they’re still together, much less putting on amazing concerts and good new material.
