Serious if you remove Eddie Vedder vocals this would be another band.

I am not sure what to think right now as nothing hit me right away. Also, Vedder seems to be rambling more on this one than on previous albums like he doesn’t know what to sing, sort of like the live improvisations he does. Anyways, thoughts where does this rank for you? For me it’s bottom 2 albums (with backspacer).

For me I would say:

Ten
Vitalogy
Vs (5 against one)
No Code
Yield
Riot Act
Binaural
Advocado
LightningBolt
Backspacer
Gigaton (will give a chance)

Ok ready to get killed by all the die hards now,

I agree (with just a few exceptions)
I only like about half of backspacer  and lightning bolt but, sadly,  I'm even less of a fan of GT

I really won’t make a full judgement until I hear the songs live but I felt like I was missing something with all the praise on here for the album. Glad to see I’m not the only one too.

I want to love it and really do like the first few songs but then it drops off so quickly, for me that is. Will need a few more listens for sure. Vinyl is suppose to get delivered today so I’ll be spinning that tonight.

I Agree huge drop off SBWM is only one that sounds like it has energy to me something they could play with anything in their catalog - I’m sure most of these songs will not make it out of this tour. I’m kind of bummed though as it’s been like what 6 years?

Give it some time. I hated most Radiohead albums after the Bends (except Hail to the Thief), but after a few weeks/months and further listens, the ones I disliked turned out to be great (and sound less dated now).

While I loved Lightning Bolt right away, I can’t think of any time in the past 2 years that I’ve spun it.
Just my 2 cents, but I like Gigaton so far.

I find comparing an album you've heard a few times to one that's been around 10, 20, 30 years to be somewhat pointless.  Tough to rank until until its got some age on it

    It’s different for sure.

Musically I think the album is strong. I love about 4 songs on the album. There are a couple others that will grow on me.

I do feel that lyrically their are some weak spots.  A couple songs go on about a minute too long.

I like it though. It’s not in my top 5, but at this point in my life and their life, I wasn’t expecting a top 5 album.  It’s new music. It’s different, has a weathered feel to it. It’s an improvement from BS and LB for sure.

I took LB for a ride earlier in the week after quite a long time of having not listened to it. I was more than happy to put it back in the garage, haha.

What a weird comment....you literally could have said that after No Code came out and after Binaural came out and after Riot Act. It's what Pearl Jam does...their sound changes. Their sound has always constantly evolved...so in essence this album is exactly what makes Pearl Jam so great in that the sound has changed like they always do.

While I disagree, love this album, I do enjoy reading others ‘takes’ or respectful opinions. Here’s hoping a few more spins, brings you round.

Quick Escape seems to be made for live and will be a banger. River Cross will be out there.

I was listening to XM while working out this morning and have only heard a total of 4 songs so far so I don't have an overall view.   But during one this morning I thought to myself....is he trying to sing with an slurred accent?     I understand they've evolved and don't want them to re-release old albums....but the last three albums they've released, 4 including Gigaton, just haven't moved me like everything from Riot Act and prior.   I'm hoping I can sit down and listen to it all the way through this weekend but honestly it's not a priority and that's an odd feeling to have after almost 30 years of feeling complete excitement at every chance to hear something new from them.

edit....it took a few listens but I really like Clairvoyants, minus the dick lyrics whatever that is; but nothing else I've heard on it sparks...for me.

Amazing how differently people view the same collection of songs. I absolutely love this album. My favorite from them definitely since Avocado and maybe since Yield.

The album hasn’t grabbed me after the first listen. It’s just ok and that’s ok!

I listened to it 3 times last night. It keeps getting better and better. I woke up with it playing in my head! I think it’s the best album since Vitalogy! I put it as 4th all time for me! I was simply blown away by it. And that doesn’t happen to me often.

Yep.  So worth the 6.5 year wait!!  It is definitely different, but it is still Pearl Jam at the core. Josh Evans, I like this guy.  He got their creative juices flowing and the end result is a collection of some of the best art these guys have created in a long time.

So far I like 7-8 of the songs on the Album and I'm on listen #3 and I'm already it enjoying it much more than Lightening Bolt and Backspacer. The thing for me is I rarely listen to the actual studio recordings once we get live versions of the songs so I'm really interested to see what makes the cut live.

It makes sense why the 3 singles were the 3 singles.
I don't get 'who ever said' at all.  Just all over the place musically and lyrically, just odd.  Like Ed is freestyle singing, bizarre.  It's like 3 songs in 1.
I try to look at each PJ album as objectively as possible and not just like the album bc PJ is my favorite band.
Seven O'clock is Bruce all the way and that's great.  That's a good song, no doubt.

After SBWM and Quick Escape I guess I just expected more.  Quick Escape is just a badass song.  Didn't care for LB at all.  Every other one of their albums I can put on and play all the way through and love it.  The fact that we got SBWM and Quick Escape makes it all worth the wait for me.  I like fast and straight forward guitar.

Matt is great on this album, Jeff is great on this album, Mike is great on this album.

Seriously if you add Ed to this album it is fucking phenomenal.
