Similar to most of their releases I need to listen to it a few more times which tells me I will end up loving it. I am extremely interested in hearing the rest of the album now for sure.Like a word misplaced...nothing said...what a waste0

Ah so you like that minute long end of the song? It's the part I actually am not in love with. And it comes as a total surprise to me that we would have differing opinions on it since we seem to agree about everything else!Spiritual_Chaos said:

HughFreakingDillon said:I have no issue with people vocalizing their distaste for a song, but just remember, this was created by someone. that someone may read this. try to be respectful. I had no problem with people saying they didn't like my music, but it was also HOW they said it that probably helped in not bothering me.
That's an excellent point (and I do forget that about your experience!)
The challenge here is it its not evolution, it's a bold departure. As artists that is their right.
I've lived thru Gabriel going pop, Rush and many others going 80s synth and Radiohead going electronica.
The challenge for PJ is Ten spoke for an entire generation of fans, who were sick of the 80s synth, pop, new wave and hair bands.
Alive hit the radio in the fall of 1991 and it was bold and breathtaking IMO because it got rock back to where it belonged. PJ did that.
Now it seems like they're waving a white flag to all the unattractive music that apple sends to my new music playlist every week0 -

I cant get over how out there this is for these guys and I fucking love it. Just wow. Over time it wont be a top 20 PJ song or anything but it's fun and I hope the whole album is this exciting. I can live without another cdm or mym.

I think it ends stronger than it starts. That synth that Jeff throws on in the beginning feels a bit out of place and "cheap". But what do I know. I can't sing in tune to save my life.cincybearcat said:

But I am very curious to hear the edited down radio version (because this can't be it with it clocking in on over 4 minutes?). If it being tighter will make it work even better. Maybe."Mostly I think that people react sensitively because they know you’ve got a point"0 -
I can see why CDM was scrapped from inclusion on this record (if this song is indicative of the album sound).Your boos mean nothing to me, for I have seen what makes you cheer0

So a band that has a massive range of musical influences, looking to be true artists for themselves(not us), took 7 years to make a new record, endured a ton of REAL LIFE shit, got inducted into the hall of fame(which comes with its own mind fuck), lost CC, and then puts out a new song which might actually reflect ALL OF THAT, well then hell, I think they may have accomplished something. We might not all like the song, but how can anyone deny that the band feels reinvigorated? Isn't that what we want? Not victory lap tour after victory lap tour. C'mon man. We know a nostalgia band is for failed artists. And DotC also speaks to what the band has always said. Make the song for the record and then LIVE it can become something more! One step at a time. One. Step. At. A. Time.0

When U2 did Achtung Baby it was a radical departure but was universally accepted because the songs were strong.AlaG said:
This song is going to get absolutely destroyed by critics and casual fans. Almost guaranteed. Just because its so different for this band and they're kind of on the outs with the aforementioned crowds anyways. Saying this as someone who likes the song.TN49724 said:
First time I'd ever heard a city's major rock radio station stop a premiere song 30 seconds in (while talking through the first part ripping it up). Take a phone call from a listener destroying the song. Then play Yellowledbetter right after.Gern Blansten said:

That's brutal - especially in drive time after all this PR work the PJ team did. That's rough.
Ditto Nirvana unplugged.
PJ could easily release a synth pop album if the songs are killer. This is filler.0 -
I would have also loved an angry CDM record. If they did scrap things, maybe they can send them to me since I seem like one of the only ones that liked it.HughFreakingDillon said:I can see why CDM was scrapped from inclusion on this record (if this song is indicative of the album sound).

I dig CDM. the chorus is a bit weak, but I appreciated the passion. I thought that's where this record was likely going to go. But I suppose not. anything can happen when you have 2 years between single releases. LOLcincybearcat said:

Yes! Beats Studio3's were killer this morning. I had to turn it down because the bass was so badass.RunIntoTheRain said:I just put on better headphones that play louder and more bass. Sounds awesome. I can't wait for the album. Well done Pearl Jam!It's a hopeless situation...0
