This belongs in the 80's prog rock discount bin. Hopefully this isn't an indication of the overall record. Maybe they can salvage this one with an extended jam or something live.
Based on what they've said, the whole album is a departure.
I'm very hesitant to work very much to fight to get MSG tix. So good news for the fanbase.0 -
my wife asked "is this talking heads?". seems to be a recurring opinion throughout.By The Time They Figure Out What Went Wrong, We'll Be Sitting On A Beach, Earning Twenty Percent.0

"I know the girls wanna dance
Fall away their circumstance
I know the boys wanna grow
Their dicks, and fix and file things"
Great lyrics
I thought it was finer things.0 -

Beck, Killers, QOTSA, Weezer, etc....
Is that how PJ did it in 1990? Figured out what the pop people liked and modified their soulful music to that style? It's a hopeless situation...0 -

this track only makes me happy.
Its light, poppy, crisp, snappy, you wanna move, the opening bass groove could go on forever in my head.

I haven't been surprised by a Pearl Jam song in a while. This thing is excellent. A song like Can't Deny Me - which I really dig live - is good, but it feels like something they can bang out in their sleep. I hope the whole album is weird.0

If rest of the album is in this vein then it will be getting used as a coffee mug coaster.Sorry - but sometimes the emperor is just naked.
Pearl Jam ringing in the New Year in a big and strong way, this is the most stoked I have been for a new PJ album in a long while, I am loving this single so far
I've shared that thought about a zillion times this morning
It's a joke. And yes I've honestly had that funny thought as did the commenter I was responding to.
Do you want me to call your comments stupid and asinine, because personally attacking another fan on an opinion forum is stupid and asinine.
BTW I love Binaural, Riot Act, Bowie, TH and Radiohead if that matters.0 -

Also, I get why someone wouldn't dig it. Different strokes, etc. By all means register your distaste or critique. But don't be one of these dudes crusading against it. Go listen to something else for a few days and let people enjoy themselves.0

Interesting. 1st listen, 80's groove. Will the whole album be just like this - NO. Getting the impression, with all the time spent, that Gigaton will be a variety of different musical types. Last time they did that, No Code, produced the most well rounded album of them all. I'm guessing those not so thrilled are either not TH or Bowie fans, or don't like their jam mixed with stardust and heads.
I love Bowie, TH and Radiohead is one of my absolute favorites.
In all those cases, the vocal fits perfect with the style. IMO the grizzly baritone we've come to love simply does not.
The guitar work at the beginning of DotC is very good. Other than that, the tune seems forced, the chorus is one of the worst lyrics I have ever read and the last minute is total filler.
The only lyric I still don't know how to feel about is the "boys wanna grow their dicks and fix and fire things". I think Ed's delivery makes it work though. As for that last lyric, I've heard people say file instead of fire. Upon first listen I thought it was fire. Made more sense with the implication that men in power are all about how big their dick is, what they can fix and shooting things. File things doesn't fit.Do we know for sure if it's file or fire?
There is a cultural bizarreness where women are allowed to use the d word and men cannot use the c word in America, but not in other English speaking countries. Me too taking over the world.
To have that lazy visual in a song chorus reminds me of LDR and if you really want to go there as an artist there's something that works very well...metaphor.0 -
