Tonight is very important. Pelfrey needs to continue his string of good starts and the offense would do well to build on the 123 first inning runs they've scored this year.

I enjoy September match-ups with so much on the line. But the Phillies are definitely facing an uphill climb. They've not shown well against the Mets in the season series. If they don't keep it close in the East, they won't have a chance in the Wild Card race with the Brewers and surging Astros.

I agree with you, I don't think the wild card is coming out of the east. The Phillies need to take 2 out of 3 this weekend. Looking forward to Sunday's matchup of Santana vs. Hamels. I do enjoy these big September series. Hoping the weather holds out for the series...

    Here's to an exciting series!

If it doesn't then we're getting a double-header on Sunday, which I cannot handle. I can't believe I'm saying this, but that's too much drinking. With tailgating and going to the Eagles game, watching other football games and a double header. I might as well take off Monday.

Yeah, I have tickets for tomorrow's game, and can't make the trip up to NY on Sunday, so I'm hoping it holds out. I don't want to make the trip and have the game get re-scheduled.

    Gotta keep our heads up.

Even if we win only one game this series we'll be two games up. That's why I think tonight's game is so important for the Mets. Sets the tone, but it also makes it if we lose the next two games we're not totally fucked and we can rebound against a weak Nationals team and weak Atlanta team for a whole week.

Pelfrey is looking very good tonight. Mets need to take advantage of Murphy's double.

    Why is Castillo starting tonight?

It's certainly not right, considering how well Easley and A. Reyes performed at 2B since Castillo has been out.

Got to bounce back today, Mets fans. Petey and Johan could still help us take the series.

On ESPN's telecast of last night's win, Peter Gammons reported that the Mets are going to pick Delgado up for next season. No surprise there, I guess.

But I was shocked at how Mets fans started chanting M-V-P when Delgado hit his second homerun. Power numbers are one thing, but the guy is hitting ~.260 on the season.

As a fan, I'm glad he's producing. And he is undoubtedly the team's MVP of the post-Willie part of the season. But League MVP? That's a bit silly.

Well, it depends on how you look at it. Since the middle of June Carlos Delgado does have the most home runs in MLB and the most RBI's in NL. Also, MVP isn't only about best numbers, its who was the most valuable player to their team. I think for the Mets Delgado is right now the obvious choice.

I'm not saying that I think he should win it necessarily, but he should be seriously considered.

Just to add, if CC Sabathia is in the mix for NL Cy Young for only the second half, certainly Delgado since June should be in the mix (his batting average since June 27th is .299, he leads the majors in homeruns, and the NL in RBIs).

The fact that you're wrong is going to be even harder to swallow come the end of September when the Phillies are packing up the clubhouse for the winter.

Sorry to see Wagner done for the year, but I think the Mets bullpen will be alright for these final three weeks.

Yup. It'll be interesting to see the reaction of all those Phillie fans when they realize that they're not going to the playoffs.

Good luck down the stretch, this time last year, you were up 6 games, and your lead was still growing...

We just beat you 2 out of 3 without the top 3rd of our lineup producing. If Delgado didn't have a hot bat, you would have gotten swept.

I do wish the schedule would have included more Sept. matchups between the Phils and Mets, but I have faith that NY will falter down the stretch...

They deserve some serious credit...especially after all the heat they took last month.
