I also pinpoint what the farm system looks like under his reign. Other than Wright and Reyes, there's not much other homegrown talent and those guys were developed in the system by the time Minaya got here.
Also, triple-A is a place for a lot of guys trying to hang on but it's also a place for some prospect. Here's a sampling of the current roster for their top minor league affiliate and forgetting who's latino and who's not, just look at the ages.
Pitchers
Tony Armas - 30
Willie Collazo - 28
Nate Field - 32
Nelson Figueroa - 34
Brandon Knight - 32
Ruddy Lugo - 28
Ivan Maldonado - 31
Tim McNab - 28
Carlos Muniz - 27
Juan Padilla - 31
Jose Santiago - 33
Brian Stokes - 29

Luis Alen - 23
Robinson Cancel - 32

Michel Abreu - 29
Anderson Hernandez - 25
Anderson Machado - 27
Argenis Reyes - 25
Jose Valentin - 39

Jesus Feliciano - 29
Raul Gonzalez - 34
Victor Mendez - 27
Valentino Pascucci - 29
John Rodriguez - 30
good point. i saw something in the paper, or maybe it was on the radio.....if Jose Reyes was on the AAA team, he would be the 2nd youngest guy on the team. That is a gutted farm system. There isn't one guy on that list who could help the Mets this year, or in the future. maybe, if you got lucky, Tony armas could be a servicable emergency starter. That list reads like Omar helping out some fellow Latinos who are on hard times. Going simply by name, and not knowing for sure, it looks like there are 19 Latinos on that roster, half of whom are in their 30's0 -

We need a complete culture change. We need Bobby Valentine. He took this team to the World Series with an outfield that consisted of Timo Perez, Jay Payton, and Benny Agbayani. The Wilpons need to get on the phone to Japan and say domo origato, Mr. Valentine.
You know who i think would be an absolute perfect fit for this team? Tony Pena. And as a Yankee fan, i'd hate to lose him, as he does great work with Jorge.0 -

This team needs about as a complete overhaul as you can get. Keep only Wright, Reyes, Beltran, Church, Schnieder, Santana, Maine, Pelfrey, Schoenweis, Sanchez, Wagner. Everyone else, coaches and GM included, need to go.
Plus, when are the Mets going to bring Jose Lima back?Hey, you wouldn't hire a clown to fix a leak in the jon so why do you let these hooligans tear down the biz? YEEAAHHH. I don't care if he is Mr. Notorious BIG, can he croon?0 -

Hi, I'm from Mexico and be heading to NY (for the first time) for both PJ shows.
I will arrive on the 23rd and be coming back to Mexico on the 29th. I want the whole week to be a kick ass week for me.
I am looking for one (1) Yankees vs Mets ticket for Friday, June 27 game at Shea Stadium.
I have never been to a MLB game before and I tried to get tickets from mets web site and I couldn't get them.
Please, If you have any ticket and want to share it (I will pay for it), let me know.
I will show my gratitude by buying some beers for whoever helps me out.

if you go early to the stadium the day of the game, you'll probably be able to get some shitty tickets. depending on how many people you're going with.Jam out with your clam out.0 -

that should work. You could also try EBay. Is this the makeup game? if so, there will be plenty of people who had tickets to the rained out game who can not make it to the rescheduled game. I don't think you'll have any problem getting tickets. If you want really good seats, that might prove a bit difficult0 -
Thanks for the answer long red and Fighting Hellfish.
I am going alone.
It does not matter where the seat is located, I just want to get in for my first mlb game.
When you say that I will probably be able to get one ticket, do you mean at the ticket window or with scalpers?0 -
much more likely with scalpers. you might get lucky at the ticket window, just because you're looking for a single ticket, but I wouldn't count on it0

But if his name was Steve Phillips, he would be granted at least another 1-2 seasons to sink the team further towards the cellar. Mets ownership has a bad track record with managers on the field and in the front office, especially since the Wilpons got control of the operation.
Don't forget: we're still ahead of the Nationals! Omar has ground to make-up on Steve.

You could probably say the same thing about Jeff Wilpon, for that matter. Jeff Johnson, with the exact resume of Jeff Wilpon,he's probably not going to become COO. The same could be said for hank Johnson with the Yankees, and James Johnson of the Knicks/Rangers/Cablevision0

nice of the mets to make the guy fly all the way to the west coast and then fire the guy.

Wow. can they do anything right? A 3:14 A.M. firing?!?! Omar and the Wilpons have managed to make Willie a victim in all of this. This move has been botched from the beginning. By Beginning, I mean last Sept/Oct when they left him hanging for a few days. They've actually won 3 out 4, and it would eb better than that if Wagner hadn't melted down. is it Willie's fault he brought in his $13 million per year closer to save a few games? It would be absolutely hilarious if now they went out and dropped 8 out of 10. And I'm not saying Willie is a great manager, or that he didn't deserve to be fired. They just botched this one completely.
from Joel Sherman's blog:
If you are a Met fan this is a sad day. Not because of the removal of Randolph, booed heavily the last time he was seen at Shea. But because the organization for which you root does not seem to have any game plan -- and apparently has no heart, as well. They actually made Randolph plus coaches Rick Peterson and Tom Nieto fly the charter 3,000 miles to California on Sunday night simply to be removed on Monday. Met management had to know what it intended to do because the Mets won on Monday.
It was not as if some last straw was dropped. This made the people in charge of the Mets look aimless and petty. The least Randolph, Peterson and Nieto should have gotten was frequent flyer miles.0 -

what a shitty move.... since they won, obviously they knew they were going to fire him before the game, so why wait until he flies 3000 miles, manages a game, and answers questions after the game? Really made the mets look bad and very spineless. My whole life

so when do they fire Omar? Obviously... the front office is the largest problem. My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.0

I heard a story that yesterday somebody asked Tony Bernazard "is anyone was getting fired today" he said no, but when asked about it today, he said "they didn't get fired yesterday". what a fuck.I don't want to be hostile. I don't want to be dismal. But I don't want to rot in an apathetic existance either.0 -

I heard that too. Disgraceful. This kind of stuff can and will make it difficult to bring in a top notch manager next year. Possibly even players. Now, money can make just about any issue go away. That said, they really look clueless over this, and that may hurt them like it hurt the Yankees in the late 80's/early 90's. Players would feign interest in the team to drive up the price, but would never actually come here.0 -
Another Bernazard story. Willie is throwing battiing practice yesterday, and in the dugout, Bernazard is talking to Manuel, basically negotiating his deal to become manager.
Watching this presser, Omar is one shady fella.0 -
