Stupid Kazmir deal was under the old regime. I like to note how Mike Jacobs is putting together a nice year for the marlins.
as for girardi, he just got here, and was not behind, i hate to say it, "the greatest collapse in MLB history"I don't want to be hostile. I don't want to be dismal. But I don't want to rot in an apathetic existance either.0 -
Omar should've snagged Matt Garza when he had the chance over the winter.
Taking two of three from the division leader is better than anything they did last week.

Garza would have required a young hitter such as F-Mart or Reyes. Wasn't happening. Anyone see last night's win? It was downright awesome. If it took a Fernando Tatis to turn things around, then so be it. The celebration itself showed what this team can do when they are 'picking each other up' (classic Wille line), and having fun."I'm an ideas man Michael, I think I proved that with F*ck Mountain" -GOB0

That's not surprising, given the obvious lack of leadership.
I heard an ESPN talking head criticize Omar for assembling his own real-life fantasy baseball team, stocked with Omar's favorite players. Funny observation.

he really should fire delgado too. yesterday delgado might have cost santana a shot at pitching into the eighth inning. he did not even attempt to dive for a foul ball in the third inning, not saying he should have dove, but if he did and caught it, it would saved santana from a 10-pitch at-bat.Reading 2004

I understand the move at this point, but there's no way you can blame Willie for the happenings of the last 4 games. 3 of those games, he brought in his closer, with a lead in the 9th inning. How is wagner going into his annual blown save fest Willie's fault. The only blame you can pin on him is the Pelfrey game. He either should have let pelfrey work thru the 9th (not sure how many pitches he had thrown, but he still looked strong) OR brought wagner in to start the 9th. For whatever reason, Wagner has a hard time when he doesn't start the inning. Bringing him in with a guy on 1st is a problem for him. It shouldn't be, but it is.
Jon heyman will be on with Mike Francesa in a few minutes.0 -

yeah, it's one thing to take a chance with an over the hill gang team, but to do so without a net, that's on Omar. To have Marlon Anderson hit 6th, that's just pathetic. And whoever decided to fly Church out to Colorado and let him pinch hit, that guy should be fired on the spot, whether it be Omar, Willie, or the team Dr.. He got hurt on a bush play that could have hurt Escobar, so i don't feel too bad for him, but he should been immediately disabled.0 -
I feel bad for Willie, but I understand the need for change. The only problem I have, is that bench coach Jerry Manuel is not the answer. We need fire. We need a complete culture change. We need Bobby Valentine. He took this team to the World Series with an outfield that consisted of Timo Perez, Jay Payton, and Benny Agbayani. The Wilpons need to get on the phone to Japan and say domo origato, Mr. Valentine.Jam out with your clam out.0

To me when reading that Minaya is considering this, it's more of a way for him to try and save himself. Randolph was Minaya's guy and ownership might be forcing his hand. If the next guy Minaya selects also fails with the group that was put together by Minaya, then it's the GM who goes.Reading 2004

Randolph was barely Minaya's guy. Minaya wanted Manny Acta, who is now with the Nationals. Minaya is not a Willie backer, that is evidenced by the lack of statements made from the GM concerning his confidence in Willie. Randolph was brought in here because he's a popular NY figure born and raised.Jam out with your clam out.0 -

My bad, I thought it was the other way around due to the various rumblings that other members of the front office don't like Randolph. This still is more Minaya than Randolph's fault.Reading 2004

All the fault lies squarely with Minaya. He wanted to build the Nueva York Latinos and in doing so, saddled this franchise with heartless, passionless pukes. He did make some good moves however. He scooped up John Maine and Oliver Perez as throw-ins for other players. Perez has looked shitty lately, but 15 wins last year is nothing to sneeze at. He also picked up Church and Schneider this year, both of whom have been successful. The mistakes I pinpoint are Delagado, Beltran and Pedro. I don't think getting them was the mistake, but rather making them the foundations of the team was his error. Pedro has barely made an impact on the field and Beltran and Delgado are clearly not leaders.Jam out with your clam out.0 -

That's why Beltran would have been fine with the Yankees. He could have been productive and his quiet personality would have blended in fine with the leadership of Jeter and Posada.
I also pinpoint what the farm system looks like under his reign. Other than Wright and Reyes, there's not much other homegrown talent and those guys were developed in the system by the time Minaya got here.
Also, triple-A is a place for a lot of guys trying to hang on but it's also a place for some prospect. Here's a sampling of the current roster for their top minor league affiliate and forgetting who's latino and who's not, just look at the ages.

I am not a fan of the Mets at all but as an outsider I agree with this. Yes Omar seemed to go after Hispanic players but he put too much on the older ones as well. Between Delgado, Alou, and Pedro the Mets are paying $34 mil and are an average of 37 years old. I would hate to see Willie pay the price for trying to coach players he didn't pick. Plus other than Wright, does anyone in this lineup scare you? Reyes only scares you if he is on base, and that seems to be rare these days. They are getting most of their production from trash heap players, Chaves, Tatis, Church (when healthy), Easly. even with the Santana signing, I didn't see the high expectations. Up until Sept. of last year the Mets had some swagger and other teams were not happy to play them. Now it seems like if you are in a slump...bring on the Mets.Hey, you wouldn't hire a clown to fix a leak in the jon so why do you let these hooligans tear down the biz? YEEAAHHH. let's not forget about the staggering 4-year deal for the one-legged Luis Castillo.
This team needs about as a complete overhaul as you can get. Keep only Wright, Reyes, Beltran, Church, Schnieder, Santana, Maine, Pelfrey, Schoenweis, Sanchez, Wagner. Everyone else, coaches and GM included, need to go.Jam out with your clam out.0
