C'mon 1-8 hitters. Remember that you get to play offense after the 6th inning, too.

don't get me wrong I am an Eagles fan too - but you know that I am referring to 'that' Eagle fan - the dbag who starts E-A-G-L-E-S chants.
What? At Phillies games? Yeah, I know. That's stupid. It's only acceptable after touchdowns. Especially if you're at an away game as I have been to the past two New Orleans games and the Seattle game this November.
'I want to hurry home to you
put on a slow, dumb show for you
and crack you up
so you can put a blue ribbon on my brain
god I'm very, very frightening
and I'll overdo it'
Yep. Yeah, that definitely smells like first place, bitches!! EAT IT!!
Funny. I was just thinking the same thing. Go find your own thread to talk about how the Cubs are about to smoke the Phils for 4 games.
Let's Go Mets!

Maybe the Mets aren't the only team* in the NL East with a pretty bad bullpen.

Fuck Duaner Sanchez. Can the guy go an outing without giving up a homerun? He is fucking garbage. This game should've been in the bag, but this fucking bullpen...
And of course, no offense since the third inning...
you couldn't swing if you were hangin' from a palm tree in a hurricane.
If Delgado doesn't take Gagne yard, all we'd be talking about is lazy-ass Jose Reyes getting picked-off first base late in the game. I can't believe how aloof he is at times. Did he learn that from Willie's regime?
Johan's balk was ugly. Mets bullpen did a nice job yesterday after he left the game.
Delgado's contract is up in January. I would guess this second-half surge in his power numbers is an attempt to persuade the Mets to pick up his $12M option next year. I like what he's doing, but I don't really want him back next season. The team needs to stay younger, and I think that means finally washing their hands of Alou, Delgado, and maybe Pedro, too. But I don't really think Omar will be so level-headed with that short list.
Welcome to the Show, Jon Niese. Here's a pennant race to help you get acquainted...

Personally, I think picking up Delgado's option right now is a must. Sure, I don't like the idea of having a guy who might be a total bust, but there really isn't much choice the way I see it.
Delgado is essentially $8M because we either pay the $12M option, or pay $4M buyout, so there is at least $4M being spent on him either way. For that little money, its almost a no brainer. There aren't many great options for next year, unless we can pick up someone like Mark Texiera, but the truth is, he'll probably cost 8 years and 20x the amount Delgado will.
So, for whats out there, at that price, you pretty much have to pick him up.

You make good sense, but analysts said over and over again how much of a 'bargain' Alou was at $8M/yr. Look what two years of that deal netted the Mets: about 140 games and a decent second half of '07, when the rest of the team was crumbling. They did a similarly foolish thing by offering Pedro his fourth year when no other team in MLB would go more than three. We can also see how those third and fourth years have turned-out for him.
It's obvious Delgado can still mash, I just worry that Omar will sink multiple years and way too much money into the guy. And probably give Pedro another year or two.

I hear you, and I agree, those extra years for an old guy can be frightening. But, I think its a little different picking up Delgado, who is having a considerably better year than last year than giving Pedro the extra year, or picking up Alou who is massively injury prone. Also, unless we can get someone like Texiera, there aren't that many better options, and most of the options on the same level would be much more $.
And don't even get me started on giving Castillo four years...

I'm going to Shea for the first time tomorrow, but don't wanna drive into the city. I've been looking into it an it seems easy to park in Jersey and take a train to Penn Station and then get on another train to Shea. The only problem I'm having is finding the best place to catch a train in NJ. I'm heading out on I-78, can somebody tell me the easiest place to get on a NJ Transit train to Penn Station?

Somehow I get the feeling though that even if the Mets lose tonight it won't be Johan's fault.

Can't believe the Phillies split with the Cubs, good for them, bad for us.
Gotta take advantage of Johan being on the mound today, and also that we don't have to face Sabathia this series.
