Big game today. Glad we've got Big Pelf going. As a Mets fan, you've got to love what he's becoming.

yeah, who would have thought pelfrey would turn out to be good?...very pleasently surprised!

i am very happy with the way they are playing latey! we need wagner back (did i just say that?..lol)
heilman closing out games is kinda a joke.

  • another 5 pitcher day for the bullpen. I've never seen a team use this many pitchers every day. There's gonna be a game, soon, where the Mets run out of pitchers na dhave to risk sending one of their starters out to the pen to throw a few innings. Take today...if they had kept it tied and gone into extras, they had just Kunz and Muniz available. How long could they go?

    yup
  • the really sad part is, I picked up heilman in one of my leagues, hoping for a few saves for this week. I'm in first by a half game, and playing a tough team. Only solace is that I also have Grabow

    Smith, Feliciano, and Heilman:

Thanks for wasting yet another quality start by one of the Mets rotation. We're counting on you to be consistent down the stretch by blowing games against the Phillies, among others. Don't let us down (Schoeneweis, you're not much better-off).

    Jerry Manuel and Dan Warthen:

We don't care anymore if the starters' arms are falling off. Get him a glove for the opposite hand and transform him into Elton Chamberlain out there. This song-and-dance has gotten old.

    Omar Minaya:

How can you just sit idly by and watch the free agent trading deadline pass without bolstering the bullpen? Now you're just going to stand around and let August slip away without making a move? Hey, maybe some relief pitchers will just magically take the 7 one day and find themselves ready to sign-on for the last six weeks of the year.

Billy Wagner, John Maine, and starting rotation:

As ignorant and obnoxious as Wagner can be in front of the microphone, your closing ability is sorely missed. Both of you please focus on getting off the DL as soon as possible. And remember that eight innings from the starters plus one from the closer is what it's going to take.

    Guillermo Mota:

I still hate you, you son of a bitch. Your ghost continues to haunt the Mets, even though you are long gone at this point. Fuckin' Mota.

    Philadelphia, Florida, and Milwaukee:

2 1/2 games probably won't hold-up. But if you can get into the Mets' bullpen, you stand a better chance than anyone who can't.

  • it's only gonna get worse. You can't pitch guys every single day. Even if they only get one batter, they still have to throw to warm up, which they might do more than once. I checked out the stats for appearances over the last 28 days. In all of baseball, The Mets have the:

    #1 Heilman 15 appearances
    #3 Feliciano 14
    #3 Smith 14
#5 Schoenweis 13 (he's tied with a bunch of guys)

When you break it down over the last 14 days, there are 9 guys with 8 appearances. 4 of them are Mets.

That's overuse. Noone can keep that up, especially in todays game, without steroids and amphetamines. These guys are gonna start to break down, or pitch even worse than they have been. They should contact Scott Proctor and Paul Quantrill and start up a support group

Let's have a cheer for the first-place New York Mets! They swept the Nationals and got John Maine back from the DL this week, in the midst of climbing back into the driver's seat.

It was mighty kind of the Dodgers to take four games from the Phillies, to aid the Mets' cause. Amazins get the Bucs this weekend in Pittsburgh.

The Amazins have won 9 out of 10.

Their starting pitchers have really picked up the bullpen's slack.

Carlos Delgado had a five-hit night, including a GW RBI.

I like how this team keeps re-inventing itself through the course of the season. Now, if only Manuel will ride the wave and let the synergy continue. Don't go trying to rush Church back or throw Castillo in at 2B the minute he's cleared. Let these guys think they're still fighting from behind. I think hanging-on by a thread brings out some good qualities in this Mets team.

how come Delgado's 5th and game winning hit wasn't ruled an error? It hit the guy in the glove.

LET'S GO PHILS!!!! (sniff sniff) I smell first place after tonight!!
  • Phillies better win tonight, as tomorrow's pitching matchup is favored heavily by the Mets. Maybe they can get to Johan in that bandbox, but winning tonight will take a lot of pressure off

Phils won the last 2 matchups where Santana started, I know its bound to catch up with them, but hopefully they make him get his pitch count up and get into the Mets' bullpen.

Either way, this is what the stretch-run is all about, key rivalry games...

  • I know, but he's pitching his typical second half now. Unhittable. You're right about the pitch count and the bullpen though. If they can knock him out after 6 or 7, with the game close, that's their best shot.
  • how long can S'weis go here? Will they have to run Perez out there? Philly has tomorrows starter warming up now

nevermind. wow, what a game. a 7 run lead, considering what happened last year? Sorry, I'm really not looking to be a dick, Especially since my team lost a huge game, and have the one of the worst pitchers in baseball going tomorrow. I just think that's amazing. Johan really has to go at least 8 tomorrow now, with the whole bullpen being used tonight.

No, you bust Mets fans every chance you get. As they would rightfully do to you as well. And I am an Eagles fan and there's nothing wrong with that. Boston fans are another story - who knew, this whole time they were nothing but Yankee fans.

After being up 7-0..then 7-5..I knew it was over, no way did I need to suffer further..so for my sanity and to at least spend a little time with my wife I decided to turn the fucking mess off..I'll be back tonight, but man this team is and has been killing me for years..At least I'm off to Vegas tomorrow to recharge for the September run ;)..

Once it was 7-5 it was clear the game was over because there was no way our bullpen could hold a lead for four innings, and of course since the Mets don't score after the 6th, ever, there was no way we could win in extra innings. Just pitiful.

don't get me wrong I am an Eagles fan too - but you know that I am referring to 'that' Eagle fan - the dbag who starts E-A-G-L-E-S chants.
