Since when does Philly get to be called a big city?

Oh, I don't know. Since the country was founded here, we're in the middle of "Megalopolis" as they call it, we are the 6th largest city in the country (only because cities like Houston and Phoenix can buy up land and widen their municipality). I think that's a big city.
  • reports are circulating that Omar is about to receive a 4-year extension. considering the mets are a vastly improved team (with glaring holes) i guess it was expected. here is hoping they trust the youth that has played well this year (evans and murphy) and look strickly to improve the bullpen in the offseason.

Johan didn't have to throw 170 pitches like Manuel joked, but he did a really great job throwing 125 over 8 innings last night. This week is the whole reason the Mets absolutely had to go and get him in the off-season.

    He. Is. Clutch.

I don't relish the idea of finishing the season against the Cubs and Marlins. But at least the Mets know they have to play hard this final week to stay in the chase. It's not like they got the Nats and the Giants where they could potentially lose focus.

Why did Delgado begin running home on that throw-away as if he could walk in, only to realize after four steps that he needed to run harder? Was he having trouble shaking off the Old Man Rust?

I get to see the Mets on tv tonight. Joy!

Let's Go Mets! (and Braves and Bucs)

I am not happy about the extension. Omar has done some good things for the team, but at the same time made some huge mistakes. I think he shouldn't have gotten more than two years, but what can you do. I definitely agree with you that I hope they trust Evans and Murphy (and Delgado for next year, and Tatis too I guess) and focus mostly on improving their pitching - starting too. No more Pedro and who knows what will become of John Maine. Also, maybe they can look into converting Murphy/Evans into a 2nd baseman. We need someone other than Castillo their.

For those who are fans of the Mets because they're not the Yankees; get ready for all that to change. New stadium + TV network = Yankees 1A
  • They could have and should have waited on the extension. he was signed thru next year. Should have let this year play out. Imagine if they miss the playoffs again. No Willie to blame this time.

I feel like such a dumb motherfucker for actually being a bit optimistic before and during this game. How the hell can they not get one fucking runner in from 3rd with no outs and a 3-0 count on Wright??..truly pathetic..no coming back from this..

Edit: But thank God Omah will sleep soundly tonight..

  • and Harden tomorrow, the Cubs best pitcher. Even if he just throws 6 innings, I don't see the Mets winning, not with Pedro on the hill. Unless Lou plays the B team.
  • Anyone know of any good support groups? I try to explain to people that being a Mets fan is the equivalent of openly accepting torture. It's like you continue getting kicked in the balls over and over, but after each time they'll do juuuust enough to pull you back in to get your hopes up and forget about the swelling and then abruptly do it again even harder and swifter. Not sure if I can go back after this one, but unfortunately I probably will...

What makes it all worse is I'm a Mets fan in Cubs country. So not only do I have to deal with these idiots I have to try to explain baseball to them too.

one thing I noticed as a Phillies fan watching this game was how tight the fans were. My god in the 9th when the Mets had the runner on third after Wright struck out it was a like a funeral. It sounded really quiet on tv and the fans had a look of impending disaster.

This weekend could be brutal with the weather. How the heck are they going to do this if they can't play thursday and friday? Going to have to bring the Cubs back on monday maybe. Going to be crazy for sure.

We knew it was over, as did everyone else..these gutless fuckers have put us through hell in the last few years..and David Wright is quickly turning into D-Rod...I would have pinch hit Santana in that spot..3-0, man on third, no fucking outs?? I still can't get my head around this scenario..

  • a win is a win, but wow....that wasn't even the cubs B team. It was their AA team. there were 5 guys on the bench, available to pinch hit, with 20 or more home runs. None were used. Lou fucked the Brewers.

Well, what do they have to play for against the Brewers? I wish Lou had thrown this AA team as you say out there for the previous three games ;)..anyway, great win..and Beltran has alway been my favorite Met :)..

Lou will play to win if I had to guess. I think he'd rather face the Mets than the Dodgers. And he'd rather face them especially if they have to use Santana on Sunday. That would mean Santana would be unavailable until Game Three.

Hopefully we'll have clinched by then  so Santana can pitch game 1.

Good job by the Mets coming from behind to win last night. Even if it was against a lesser version of the Cubs, they were still down three runs late in the game. And the bullpen held its ground. Give 'em a little credit for battling the rain and the ghosts.

But don't sleep on Lou Piniella, either. I agree that he calculated this week's Mets series with next week in mind. What manager wouldn't prefer to see the Mets on the other side of the field in October? Right now, I think he'd take them over the possibility of seeing the Dodgers in the first round. Wouldn't you?

Haha. Oh man, I may try and be calm and collected here, but you should see me watching games. My housemate described it as "listening to someone in a torture chamber" and that was before Wed. night. I find myself screaming at the tv on a nightly basis with these bastards. And after Wed. night, there is no more calm and collected Yosi.

Fuck this shit man. I won't start calling Wright D-Rod, well, cause after last season, where he defined clutch, he deserves another chance to redeem himself (and also I don't want a name like that stick and then have him actually turn into the next A-Rod) - but this does not mean I am not pissed as shit at him in general. And seriously, him not hitting to the opposite field is almost as infuriating as Delgado not hitting to the opposite field when the shift is on: THERE ARE NO INFIELDERS!!! FUCKING JUST TAP IT DOWN THE THIRD BASE LINE AND GET A FUCKING HIT.

Ok. Breathe... Big game tonight. We need to sweep this series so fucking badly...
