Well, its about time these got their own thread for this year. I figured it would be appropriate to start the thread off with a resounding "The Mets got Santana!!"

Also, this thread is in tribute to Metsfan a.k.a Metsy. Hopefully one day you will be unbanned and rejoin us.

Hopefully with Santana in their rotation the Mets can get back into the playoffs and win it all!

congrats Mets fans ... nice pickup.

If Ollie Perez and Maine can continue to progress and Petey can be the Pedro of old (or 80% of it), that staff is going to be tough on the NL.

Well, that's assuming you'll get Santana inked for a long term deal and the deal holds up.

    LET'S GO METS!

Last year is LAST year. This is the new-and-improved, Luis-at-2B, healthy Carlos y Carlos, D-Wright slammin', flame-throwing pitchers, and some-guys-named-Schneider-and-Church 2008 New York Mets!

I can't wait to watch Jose Reyes get back on his game, see Moises Alou finish out his career, and find Guillermo Mota nowhere within 50 miles of Queens. Seeing Santana in a Mets' uni is going to be so exciting, as is the proper return of Petey to the five-man rotation. And by the way, True Mets = Blue Mets.

Willie Randolph, Rick Peterson, Omar Minaya and the rest of the staff can get the job done. The bench is strong and the bullpen has gotten better. This is the year to say goodbye to Shea Stadium but hello to happier days.

Suit up Mr. Met and slap that big goofy grin on him because once again, Mets Fans, it's time to get excited about our team and look forward. Spring Training is almost here and the Mets are the talk of the town for lots of good reasons. Here's hoping it stays that way for the entire year.

    In short, I Believe.

Wow, I'm still just so excited for this. And to think we didn't even have to give up Pelfrey or Martinez.

I cannot wait to take the division back from the Phillies.

Also, I hope that the Mets resign OP. I think the guy can definitely consistently win 15 games. He's a very solid starter and I hope we can keep him the rotation a few more years.

2008 is looking good. Santana on board and an unchanged starting line-up. It's hard to bring high-priced talent on like that and not give up anything immediate. Sure, they got rid of 4 of their top 7 prospects...but look at the Celtics right now who essentially did the same thing. Hard to argue with results.

I'm confident a deal will be done before 5 pm on Friday.

Didn't Torii Hunter say late last year that Johan would like to go to the Mets? It looks promising, but--like you--the official word would go a long towards making me feel even better about '08.

I agree. I said when this broke that it wouldn't surprise me at all if they can't come to terms. i can see Johan sticking to 7/140 and Fred Coupon not moving off 5/110. I doubt Johan would sign for less than Zito, either in AAV or overall $

Great, now there's two teams in NY that are obviously trying to buy a championship. Do these two words mean anything to New Yorkers?: "Home Grown"

How do the words Jose Reyes and David Wright sound to you?

You know, cause Barry Bonds was so home grown...

I can't believe I'm defending the Yankees, but if you were paying attention, the Yankees didn't trade for Santana cause they like their homegrown young arms.

He's also reporting that insiders are very optimistic this deal gets done by 5 pm.

If this deal falls through because of money I will have a hard time supporting this team if they aren't winning. And I have been a hardcore Mets fan all my life.

You're missing the point. You're talking about them not having any homegrown players, and I just gave you the nucleus of the dynasty, and the 4/5th of this years starting rotation. What team are you a fan of?

Dude, I totally can empathize. I fucking cannot believe this shit. At least the deadline is only two hours. Can you imagine what two days would have been like?

By the way, there's an awesome blog for all Mets fans out there, http://www.metsblog.com

Sorry, I don't think I made myself clear. Yes, the Yankees and every other team in MLB have home grown players on their team. However, the Yankees can attribute less of their success to their home grown players than any other team in baseball or close it, especially since the 2000 season. My criticisms of the Yankees, Red Sox and now I fear the Mets is that they do not seem to have the patience to develop a young player into a star. As a Dodger fan, words cannot describe the pride that is felt when a Russell Martin, Paul Lo Duca, Mike Piazza, Andre Either, I could go on forever comes up and becomes a star. The point is, recognizing young talent and having the patience to nurture it rather than selling it off for something NOW used to be a part of baseball. Unfortunately, the Yankees and Red Sox seem to be killing this mode of team managment. And lately the Dodgers seem to be following suit. Makes me sad. But it makes me feel a little better that the Yankees have won jack shit since 2000.

That's kind of silly, because sometimes the young talent just isn't there. Sometimes, often times, in order to win, you need to import talent. Any fan of baseball knows that.

Whoops. Barry Zito might need a loan by then. ;)
