Melky leading off tonight and Damon with a night off.
The Hawkins thing is pretty messed up I think. Booing him because he sucks is one thing, but booing him for wearing O'Neil's # is too much. He has a hell of a good reason for wearing #21 in honoring Roberto Clemente.
Is it just me or is there something really anticlimactic about this "series" against the Sox thrown in the middle of the week?
Beavis: All my friends are brown and red? What does that mean?

The starters have had trouble finding the strike zone lately. Last night's game was pretty brutal. Neither team pitched worth anything. It is good to see some of the slumpers start to make good contact. Cano in particular. And how about Bruney? I hope he can pitch consistently all year because you put him together with Joba and Mo and that is a hell of a combination.
its ok sportscenter set the world straight by implying it was intentional

off topic but when did joba become a star? can someone tell me what he has done?
I don't think it was intentional
I don't think Joba is off topic either. I don't know his exact stats and whatnot, I'm sure somebody else knows them but he's come in and been quite effective in his role as set-up man to Mariano, and people like his enthusiasm!

classless yanks hitting trying to take manny's head off, here's a thought, get a competent pitcher:)
uhhh, that's how baseball's played. when someone's that comfortable in the batters box, you gotta make them uncomfortable. especially when it's a piece of shit retard who constantly shows up the other team every time he hits a fly ball to the outfield. Was it classless when Pedro would hit Yankees every game? Classless when he sent Jeter and Soriano both to the hospital in the 1st inning? Let me gues, it's okay for Sox to plunk yankees, but classless the other way around, right? Hypocritical fucking red Sox fans.....
Jason Giambi---He is obviously done, and has been for some time. Take his ass and park it on the bench. I don't care if he is the 2nd highest paid player in MLB. You can get away with a light hitting 1B if his defense is exceptional. You can get away with a butcher at 1B if he's a league leading hitter. You can't run some cardboard cutout out there who's hitting .116. Forget about the steroid numbers. They never happened. We're talking about a guy who's hit .236, .253, .271, .208, and .250 over the past 5 years. 2005 and 2006 saw some power. Those years also saw gas sell for $2.50 a gallon, and that ain't coming back either. Give Shelley Duncan and/or Morgan Ensberg a shot there. Duncan may not be the greatest player ever, but he can hit a fastball. He's tearing it up at Scranton, hitting .342 with 4 HR's 10 RBI's and 6 doubles in just 38 at bats. Give him Giambi's job, and even his roster spot if you have to. He'll be a much better hitter and fielder, and at just 2 % of Giambi's salary. (I know they still have to pay Giambi, just making a point)
Johnny Damon---He just doesn't seem to have it anymore. He can't hit leadoff, not batting .197 he can't. get Brett Gardner up here, and give him some time hitting leadoff. He'd be a major upgrade in the OF over Damon/Matsui. I haven't seen enough of him to say whether he belongs in CF or LF, but I'd be happy with him in either spot, next to Melky. Gardner has been described as a "Juan Pierre who walks" just what this team needs. Damon, though obviously not as fast as he once was, would be a great late innings pinchrunner, albeit a $13,000,000 pinchrunner. Gardner is hitting .353 with a homer, 8 RBI's, 12 runs scored, and 3 steals in 51 at bats. If they're not ready to go with Gardner, then at least lead Jeter off. Without Gardner, Damon could make a great #9 hitter. he just can't lead off anymore
Mike Mussina--there's isn't a lot they can do here, as they need Moose to pitch, and eat some innings. But they'll have to cherrypick who he pitches against. Until Moose figures out how to get batters out with the stuff he's got now, you have to keep him off the mound against Boston, Detroit, Cleveland, and other slugging teams.
Ian Kennedy---Give him a few more starts to get it together, but if he doesn't, send him to AAA to get right, and give Alan Horne, Steven Jackson, or Steven White a shot. best case scenario is that whoever they call up pitches great, kennedy gets "fixed", and then Moose becomes a long man.
Lineup, assuming they don't call up Gardner
Jeter SS
Melky CF
Abreu RF
ARod 3B
Matsui DH
Posada C
Cano 2B (will move up to 2nd when he starts to hit, which he will)
Duncan/Ensberg 1B
Damon LF
I agree about Giambi and Moose but I say it's still early (actually X says that but I agree) and while I'm not pleased, I say at least give it till May before we start making radical changes
I don't like the pitching at all though. Blech.

there is absolutely no aspect of jason giambi's game that is consistent with what should be expected from a professional baseball player. at this point, it would be a better use of the yankees' $23 million to cut him than to keep him on the roster.
i wouldn't give kennedy more time. he's got great stuff but he needs to refine it at AAA. keeping him in the major league rotation probably won't help his development.
i'd like to see what alan horne can do, but he's currently on the DL with a biceps strain... so that's not happening immediately. there are other options (rasner, white, marquez, mccutchen from AA). i'm not a huge steven jackson fan, though.
the other option, as i see it, would be to put ross ohlendorf in the rotation. the thinking has been that his stuff translates better in a relief role, but so far this year he's done well as the long man. i'll bet they could stretch him out as a starter.
a-rod doesn't seem to think that his injury is too serious...
I hope he gets to sit out three games, that's three less games he gets to screw up...

Goes from a complete game 2 hitter vs the Sox to giving up several leads (including a 4 run lead) and doesn't make it through 5.
Tough indeed - to be a #1 guy in the rotation, you need to be a little more consistent.
