If you intend to travel from overseas to the states for the upcoming spring PJ shows, you might want to reconsider, regardless of your home or transit country. If not, you might want to review pictures on your phone, text and email contents and consider deleting your web search browser history and website favorites. You may also want to buy and wear a MAGA hat or other MAGA gear for passing through customs. If not, and regardless, you might want to be prepared for being questioned, detained and searched and denied admission. Have a plan, be prepared. Again, regardless of your country of origin. ‘Muricans can’t sleep at night unless they’re 100% certain no one from out of the country is going to come here, overstay their visa or travel itinerary and steal their job, rape or kill them or their loved ones. You’re being warned.

If you are considering a trip to the US, please reconsider. Why reward Donald Trump’s America with your tourist dollars?

To friends of democracy around the world: we need your help.

You know that the Trump regime is brutally attacking US democracy. Most of us did not vote for Donald Trump (half of us didn’t even vote in the 2024 election). But he feels he has a mandate to take a wrecking ball to the constitution.

Like most bullies, the regime can be constrained only if everyone stands up to the bullying – including you.

First, if you are considering a trip to the United States, please reconsider. Why reward Trump’s America with your tourist dollars?

Spending by non-Americans in the United States is a significant source of tax revenue and a major “export” of this nation. There’s no reason for you to indirectly support Trump’s economy.

Many international travelers concerned about Trump’s authoritarianism have already canceled trips to the United States. You might do so, too.

Last week, the US president threatened a 200% tariff on European wine and alcohol after calling the European Union “one of the most hostile and abusive taxing and tariffing authorities in the World”.

Why reward this bellicose rhetoric? Many Europeans are already skipping trips to Disney World and music festivals.

Travel from China, a frequent target of Trump’s contempt, is down 11%. Chinese travelers are choosing to vacation in Australia and New Zealand instead of visiting US national parks.

Our dear neighbors north of the border, who have long been the major source of international travel to the United States, are deciding to visit Europe and Mexico instead.

In response to Trump’s repeated desire to make Canada a “51st state”, Canada’s former prime minister Justin Trudeau has urged Canadians not to vacation in the US.

An informal boycott by Canadian travelers has begun. The number of Canadians returning by car from visits to the United States already fell by 23% in February, and air travel by Canadians returning from the United States was down 13% relative to last year, according to Statistics Canada.

Overall, it’s expected that international travel to the United States will drop at least 5% this year.

Although we have loved (and profited from) your visits, I urge you to join many of your compatriots and at least for now decide not to come to the United States.

Second, if you are thinking about coming to the United States on a student or even on an H-1B visa, which allows highly skilled foreign citizens to live and work here, you might also reconsider.

Perhaps wait a few years until, hopefully, the Trump regime has ended.

It is not entirely safe for you to be here, in any event.

Dr Rasha Alawieh, 34, a kidney transplant specialist and professor at Brown University’s medical school, who has been in the United States legally on an H-1B visa, was just deported without explanation, and even though a court order had blocked her expulsion.

Dr Alawieh had traveled last month to Lebanon, her home country, to visit relatives. When she tried to return from that trip to the United States, she was detained by US customs and immigration officials and put on a flight to Paris, presumably on her way to Lebanon.

Lebanon is not even on a draft list of nations from which the Trump administration is considering banning entry to the United States.

Even if there’s a shortage in the US of skilled workers in your specialty, you could be deported at any time, for any or no reason.

Likewise, if you are considering coming to the US on a student visa, you might consider the risk at this time. A Columbia University graduate student, Mahmoud Khalil, was arrested and detained for no reason other than that he peacefully protested against Benjamin Netanyahu’s policies in Gaza.

The administration of Brown University has advised foreign students, ahead of spring break, to “consider postponing or delaying personal travel outside the United States until more information is available from the US Department of State”.

It is not just the risk. It’s also the circumstances. If you care about democracy, this is not the time to come here on a student or H-1B visa because the Trump regime is riding roughshod over our rights.

On Sunday, it deported hundreds of Venezuelan nationals from the United States to a prison in El Salvador. This was done even though a federal judge blocked Trump’s use of the centuries-old Alien Enemies Act – which had only been used in times of war – and ordered planes carrying some of the Venezuelans to turn back to the United States.

On Sunday night, Trump told reporters that the Venezuelans he deported were “bad people”.

But no one can take Trump’s word that these were “bad” people. Trump routinely uses the term “bad people” to refer to people who oppose or criticize him.

Whatever your reason for wanting to come to the United States – as a visitor, a student, or an H-1B skilled worker – you might want to reconsider your plans.

Deciding not to come would send a signal that you’re justifiably worried about your safety and security here and you are as repulsed by the Trump regime’s attacks on democracy as are most of us Americans.

French scientist denied US entry after phone messages critical of Trump found

France’s research minister said the scientist was traveling to Houston for a conference when his phone was searched

France’s research minister said a French scientist was denied entry to the US this month after immigration officers at an airport searched his phone and found messages in which he had expressed criticism of the Trump administration.

“I learned with concern that a French researcher” on assignment for the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) “who was traveling to a conference near Houston was denied entry to the United States before being expelled”, Philippe Baptiste, France’s minister of higher education and research, said in a statement on Monday to Agence France-Presse published by Le Monde. “This measure was apparently taken by the American authorities because the researcher’s phone contained exchanges with colleagues and friends in which he expressed a personal opinion on the Trump administration’s research policy,” the minister added.

“Freedom of opinion, free research, and academic freedom are values that we will continue to proudly uphold. I will defend the right of all French researchers to be faithful to them, while respecting the law,” Baptiste said.

A diplomatic source told the French news agency that the incident occurred on 9 March.

Another AFP source said that US authorities accused the French researcher of “hateful and conspiratorial messages”. He was reportedly also informed of an FBI investigation, but told that “charges were dropped” before being expelled.

The Department of Homeland Security did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The research minister, Baptiste, has been outspoken in his own criticism of the Trump administration, and Elon Musk, for making huge cuts to scientific research budgets.

On the same day that the researcher was denied entry to the US, Baptiste published a letter calling on American researchers to relocate to France. “Many well-known researchers are already questioning their future in the United States,” he wrote. “We would naturally wish to welcome a certain number of them.”

The next day, Baptiste posted a photograph of himself in a virtual meeting with a researcher at the University of Maryland School of Medicine who had decided to take up an invitation from Aix-Marseille University to welcome researchers who wish to leave the United States.

On 12 March, Baptiste shared video on X, of a television appearance in which he deplored the way that research on health, climate, energy and AI “is being chainsawed in the United States”.

In the same interview, Baptiste said that he had “heard Elon Musk say that the International Space Station should be shut down in 2027. Who are we talking about? The boss of SpaceX? The head of the American public administration? None of this makes any sense.”

It was not immediately clear what conference the researcher who was denied entry to the US was planning to attend, but the 56th Lunar and Planetary Science Conference was held outside Houston from 10 to 14 March.

    Fighting lies is swimming upstream
is a tsunami. I’m tired of people giving that POS credit for mastering anything. Anyone could do that if they were a narcissist to the level he is. He’s not special.

If he was a master at messaging his approval rating wouldn’t be in the toilet this early in his term.

I am only saying that’s why he won. I don’t agree with it, but in order to understand politics, I find it necessary to understand why voters continually reject democrats when all the Rs do is tax cuts for billionaires. Take one step to the center. Many smart reasonable conservatives voted for him.
You're still dismissing the massive amount of misinformation even supposed smart and reasonable conservatives believe to be true because they only consume Fox News. No amount of Democrat messaging is going to break through to people who don't want to be reached.

    In response to the boldfaced:

"Take one step to the center" said the unjust man.

You step towards him, he steps away.

"Take one step to the center" says the unjust man, again.

And they say the exact same about dems. Yes they are mostly inaccurate, but not fully, and that’s where their wedge with voters exists.

as far as not knowing how to break thru, the bottom line is democratic leadership is terrible at messaging. How do we know this? They miss obvious messages almost every time.

in 2024 Rs were blaming Biden Harris for inflation. Dem leadership should have immediately determined that would be toxic to their campaign. Yet They had no idea how to fight back.

I can’t recall one time they tried to pin that inflation on the broken supply chain they inherited. Instead of mentioning it once or twice, if they even did, it should have been a central theme in its advertising. Short and sweet with pictures of ships lined up in LA and overflowing empty shipping containers

trump doesn’t care if his punches are 100% accurate. He just punches and punches, knowing eventually they will land with 2% of the voters. On inflation, all the dems did is take his punches, and their loss is their own fault. It was obvious the second they started getting the blame for inflation, by the dude who caused it.

that was so easy and obvious. Yet there are plenty of on this page blaming voters. That just doesn’t work. Go no further than Biden Harris on who to blame.
you continue to completely discount how easy it is to manipulate with lies and hatred. Humans naturally resonate with what is negatively affecting them. That's what maga taps into. It doesn't matter that it's all lies. You clearly don't understand how hard it is to fight misinformation with truth. Misinformation wins all day long. It's easier to digest. It takes no critical thought. Why do you think since the dawn of television, politicians use attack ads instead of positive messages about what they will do? Cuz that's what works. Truth be damned. But if dems did that, or when they do that, they get hammered by the moral high ground.

If it's so easy, you are missing out on one helluva lucrative opportunity as a campaign manager. "wonder why"
I posted this in November, as I think they're factors that are not considered adequately by Democratic leadership. When I think of how the Democrats have messaged over the past eight years, these are the things I feel Democrats are getting wrong.

    1. The voting populace will vote for immediate change, not long term change. Don't campaign on long-term change
    2. Character is not even close to a top issue. Don't campaign by criticizing another's character
    3. The truthfulness of a claim is not considered by supporters. Truth doesn't matter - volume does. Speak louder. Be entertaining - whatever it is, stand up and stand out.
    4. The voting populace is deaf to criticism by non-supporters (and excuse criticism by claiming that someone is a non-supporter). If you're a Republican, the word of a Democrat is less than meaningless, and vice-versa. Republican change will only come from Republicans, and vice-versa. Don't waste time on each others' networks unless you seriously can convince a Republican that your values are the same as theirs.
    5. There is a belief in the finite amount of power and government concern available for distribution. Therefore, power or government concern granted to any cohort other than a voter’s own, is seen as a loss of power to (or lack of concern about) that voter. That includes gender, race, religion, and any other exploitable division of humans. People are easily divided. They think if the government is caring about someone else, they themselves are cared for less by the government. Trans rights, etc - shouldn't be main talking points during campaigns, as they're easily exploited
    6. If given permission to suppress critical thought, by someone seen as powerful, a voter will gladly take that opportunity. People don't want to think. They want to trust and believe.

Spot on, mostly. Need to give voters a little credit. Inflation was important and dems handled it with an F. America is a big marketing country and during he campaign, trump knew how to hammer a simple message to the voters, while dems are not capable of a cohesive and smart reply to the most critical attack on their record, inflation.

dems were aggressively attacked by trump about inflation and never defended their record. Never spoke about the long line of freight ships outside LA while Donnie was president. Never spoke about the huge pile of empty shipping containers. Never spoke about the massive break to the supply chain caused by trump, who was too busy at that time with his 2020 slogan, “either I win or it’s rigged”.  They could have tied Jan 6 to inflation as the time periods perfectly aligned, but they were too busy with their 34 conviction stuff, which poll after poll told them that the effectiveness of that was long passed.

Never did they speak of the immediate steps Biden took in 2021 to identify and combat inflation. Never made the point this is what a competent administration does.

we only got hysterical attacks about Jan 6 and trump is a convict. Never made an attempt at a comparison and contrast on inflation and specific steps taken by each. They could have tied Jan 6 to inflation, because trump was too erratic and busy to think of the country. Would have been incredible messaging. Could have spent tens of millions simplifying and pounding away at this message. Dems are lost, completely lost, and it becomes apparent, especially with that one sided article about the unfortunate actress detained by CBP. There was another side to the story. Usually missed by dems and their ever passionate faithful.

Instead we are left with a hysterical party only capable of hysterics, which can never see the tree in the woods. That approach resonates expertly on this forum.

is a tsunami.

Need to give voters a little credit.
You're doing the literal opposite of that by suggesting they can't think for themselves.

That approach resonates expertly on this forum.

you whine all the time about personal insults and circumventing the rules. just stop it with this BS already.

And you continually misunderstand my comments. Despite how much you complain about my posts, you are misidentifying both the meaning of a PERSONAL attack, as opposed to a strategy employed by a party and their believers.

the Democratic Party is lost in hysterics. And this place is very similar to the lefts echo chamber. That was my comment.

Please let’s not play the AMT game. Nice roundabout attack… and nice edit of my comment. I have no idea what you think I am suggesting of voters.

I know THEY are open to suggestion while thinking for themselves. Imagine that.

And I know the dems lacked focus on the important issues, when polling should have made it obvious to them to stop with the never ending  34 and J6 attacks and come up with better defense of their inflation and border security record.

R attacks were clearly working. That should have been damn obvious, but in this lib wonderland, a simple analysis of that garners non stop attacking. That’s hysterical.

I don’t think you even know what you’re suggesting about voters…. We have to give them credit, but don’t blame them, because smart and reasonable conservative voters can’t be held responsible for how they voted because messaging.

The Gestapo tactics round ups continue. Because Israel:

Georgetown scholar detained over American wife’s Palestinian ties, lawyer says

Badar Khan Suri, a postdoctoral scholar at Georgetown University and citizen of India, was arrested Monday night outside of his Virginia home by officers who identified themselves as Department of Homeland Security agents, according to a legal filing by Suri's lawyer.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) — A Georgetown University researcher who is married to a Palestinian American was detained by immigration agents who told him his visa had been revoked, prompting another high-profile legal fight over deportation proceedings against foreign-born visa holders authorized to live in the U.S.

Badar Khan Suri, a postdoctoral scholar at Georgetown University and citizen of India, was arrested Monday night outside of his Virginia home by officers who identified themselves as Department of Homeland Security agents, according to a legal filing by Suri’s lawyer.

Hassan Ahmad, Suri’s Virginia-based attorney, wrote in a court filing that Suri was targeted because of his wife’s “identity as a Palestinian and her constitutionally protected speech.”

Suri was later taken to a detention facility in Louisiana, according to a government website. His lawyers are seeking his immediate release and to halt deportation proceedings through their habeas motion filed Tuesday against the Trump administration.

“The Trump Administration has openly expressed its intention to weaponize immigration law to punish noncitizens whose views are deemed critical of U.S. policy as it relates to Israel,” Suri’s attorney wrote.

Suri’s detention more than 1,000 miles (about 1,600 kilometers) away from his family and attorney is “plainly intended as retaliation and punishment for Mr. Suri’s protected speech,” his attorney added.

The deportation effort comes amid legal fights over cases involving a Columbia University international affairs graduate student and a doctor from Lebanon.

Suri was accused of “spreading Hamas propaganda and promoting antisemitism on social media” and determined to be deportable by the Secretary of State’s office, Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said late Wednesday on X, formerly known as Twitter. Suri’s case was first reported by Politico.

The filing by Suri’s lawyer said that federal authorities have provided no evidence that he’s committed any crimes and that his detention violates his free speech and due process rights. Suri, who has no criminal record, holds a visa authorizing him to be in the U.S. as a visiting scholar, and his wife is a U.S. citizen, according to the motion.

His lawyer didn’t immediately respond to an messages seeking further comment Thursday.

Suri’s lawyers say he’s currently teaching a course at Georgetown and hopes to become a university professor. A Georgetown webpage identifies Suri as a postdoctoral fellow at Alwaleed Bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding at the university. The university said his areas of interest include religion, violence and peace processes in the Middle East and South Asia. The bio said that he earned a doctorate in India while studying efforts to introduce democracy to Afghanistan and Iraq, and he has traveled extensively in conflict zones in several countries.

The university said in a statement Thursday that Suri is an Indian national who was “duly granted a visa to enter the United States to continue his doctoral research on peacebuilding in Iraq and Afghanistan.”

“We are not aware of him engaging in any illegal activity, and we have not received a reason for his detention,” the school said. “We support our community members’ rights to free and open inquiry, deliberation and debate, even if the underlying ideas may be difficult, controversial or objectionable. We expect the legal system to adjudicate this case fairly.”

The U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement detainee locator website lists Suri as being in the custody of immigration officials at the Alexandria Staging Facility in Louisiana.

Separately, Columbia University student activist Mahmoud Khalil, a legal U.S. resident with no criminal record, was detained earlier this month over his participation in pro-Palestinian demonstrations and is fighting deportation efforts in federal court. And Dr. Rasha Alawieh, a kidney transplant specialist who previously worked and lived in Rhode Island, was deported over the weekend despite having a U.S. visa.

I don’t think you even know what you’re suggesting about voters…. We have to give them credit, but don’t blame them, because smart and reasonable conservative voters can’t be held responsible for how they voted because messaging.

    Whatever. I’m done. ✌️

The point of my comments was the poor messaging by the dems, especially on inflation. Saying “ give the voters a little credit” was a minor part of my comment, but you edited and twisted my comment around to suit your narrative. Had dems attempted to blame trump for inflation with facts and force, that may have influenced the outcome. Since they took his attacks sitting down, we’ll never know, and his attacks worked.

What a fucked mess. Rampant abuse of authority by asshole people hiding behind a badge. This is just disgusting to hear so many tourists being treated this way who are not circumventing the border or partaking in any illegal activity. The cost to all these people just to get out of these situations and then additional trauma from the experience and trying to figure out if anyone can be held accountable would be a nightmare.

It’s horrible what happened to her, but her first statement is false, and that reporting is unbalanced. That comes with risk.

    she had plenty of warnings.
    Her visa was revoked recently
she consulted with a lawyer who advised her to fix her visa issue from her home country before entering
She decided to enter without a visa
she decided to enter from a country other than her home country
She decided to enter from a point notorious for immigration problems.
she decided to enter knowing full well that the us has an aggressive president regarding border protection

The administration is doing plenty of horrible things. Unbalanced reporting will not help.

Did you read the account of the German tourist I posted above in the AP? I understand the view that Mooney is sensationilizing her account, and also, the merits of the detainment are flimsy and fucked up to begin with so focusing on the fact that we (collective) might disagree with her disregard for advice from a lawyer and other factors, is no different than blaming the rape victim who was told she probably shouldn't go to the bar alone or wear that short skirt. She should have known the risks, right?

I see your stance on this issue as complying in advance to authoritarian rule. These types of accounts are meant to intimidate and deter foreign born travelers from even entering the country because the current administration will take a hammer to your situation without consideration of circumstances. It's disgusting and what fascists salivate over. The impacts are already being made clear on the recommendations by universities advising international students not to leave the country and other nations putting out travel advisories if planning trips to the US. Fuck all these scum.

Meanwhile, a white south African with numerous conflicts of interest will be in a secret military briefing today regarding potential war scenarios with China. What the actual fuck?

Some on here have shown that they’re all in on authoritarianism. It’s not difficult to see. And if you don’t think any of this doesn’t embolden domestic law enforcement, there’s a guy named George I’d like to introduce you to. Be careful driving between cities when seeing shows. Slap that MAGA sticker on your car and keep that MAGA hat on the rear dash.

My understanding is that it was denied by WH admin, including Hegseth, but then the Wall Street Journal confirmed it 30 minutes after that, which was separate from the original report by NYT. Who knows what's really going on these days. This admin hides a lot of the facts and details around things from the public even though the noise from Trump is non-stop. It makes it seem like information is being shared, but the relevant details of actual actions being carried out has to be sued for and even then, it's a battle for the truth.

And if someone or organization sues and wins, they just refuse to comply and have the democrat lunatic judge doxxed while they appeal and stall. Meanwhile, shit is happening and we don’t have a clue. Damage is being done and will be irretrievably broken by the time anyone can get back to fix it. All part and parcel of Project 2025.

Any other western democracy’s citizens would be in the streets surrounding the parliament and PM residence and calling for national strikes. ‘Murikkka? Silent majority acquiescence.

What the actual fuck?

the worst thing the resistance can do is hand trump a victory, and the best way to do that is liberal overreaction to inaccurate reporting. That makes him seem a little reasonable to non Harris voters and not an authoritarian.

That enables him to minimize and hide the true horror of the story, the horrific detainment conditions et al, and showcase this is a complainer who ignored specific legal advice and entered on an revoked visa and he’ll also claim she was trying to sneak in by coming thru a busy port hiding behind bad hombres in a country foreign to her.

It’s working. The acceptance of authoritarianism is working. Let’s focus on the left’s hysteria and how that gives COOTWH a “victory” rather than focus on what rightly should have happened in a non-authoritarian run country. She should have been turned away at the border for her egregious conduct and actions and told to come back, not detained, humiliated and turned into a financial cost to taxpayers (detention ain’t free). Had that happened, we might not even be talking about it.

The burden is always on the “radical leftists and ‘liberal overreactionaries’”.

And Dr. Rasha Alawieh, a kidney transplant specialist who previously worked and lived in Rhode Island, was deported over the weekend despite having a U.S. visa.

Missed this yesterday. It’s unreal, the one sided reporting. Keeps on happening on AMT.

this is that individuals father in law (not saying it’s right or wrong but unbalanced reporting is what is wrong.
The article is leaving out a very significant detail. Trying to pretend it’s because the wife is simply Palestinian. That’s either an outright lie or…..Oops.)

Ahmed Yousef (also known as Yousef Saleh, Abu Ahmed, Ahmed bin Yousef)[1][2] was a senior adviser to Gaza's Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh and remains close to current Hamas leadership.[3][4]

Yousef previously served as the Executive Director of the United Association for Studies and Research, a U.S.-based non-profit organization that has been called a front operation for Hamas.[6]
