Also it’s hard to call this a true “solo” album because of the earthlings band and other writers on the tracks.

that being said- I can’t believe I’m saying this- but

this is the best solo album Eddie has made.

And into the wild and uke are my two all-timers.

sheesh Eddie, you outdid yourself again.
    Recency bias?

Still listening through....I love some, like some and meh some so far.  Will wait a bit to see, but I don't see this as anywhere close to ITW.

Really digging the second half of the album. "Try" might be my favorite after the first listen.
I am really digging Try....I wonder what I will think in a bit when the shine wears off...but pretty cool.

I wanted to be bitter as per the whole PJ tour delay stuff, but this album is incredibly good. Definitely my fav solo work. Although I will say the tune with Sir Elton is my least favourite.

  • Interesting group of songs, good feeling after 1 listen. I like the punkier songs a lot. Not feeling fallout or mrs mills but the rest sounds good. Rose of J and good/evil are awesome. Brother the cloud is the clear stand out and on my way is cool. Invincible is a sweet opener. Lots of variety. I’ll listen more after drinking some beers after my 9 hours of zoom meetings and dealing with complaining  customers all day.
  • Definitely need more time on this one. I actually had a hard time getting through the entire album. It’s all over the place.

I'll never have the need or desire to listen to the song with Elton John again.

Somebody did their required Unconscious Biases training!

I have some recency bias too as I saw the tour… I was not into this album at all until I saw it live. That being said, I’m digging all the new songs, although unsure about the Elton song and Mrs. Mills is just ok.

But the close out song with his dad - holy shit. The call and response. Knowing how Ed feels via Release and other songs. It’s beautiful.

  • I can't believe Ed released The Haves as a single now that I hear the rest.  My least favorite song by a wide margin.  Whew.

I like it---much better than I was expecting it to be. It has some great tunes, and only 2 songs that I will most likely pass over (unless spinning the LP). I'd much prefer Into The Wild over Earthling, but like it a lot more than Uke Songs. It's a good album.
    I LOVE MUSIC.

Mrs. Mills could be a McCartney song.

He’s going to hate this album, isn’t he? Lol
I ll be nice; from what I ve heard I m glad I didn’t see him live last week.  Not my cup of tea. Very dad rock to me.  Ed and Elton John doing a duet?  Ugh ugh.  Ok
Itw is still my favorite Ed album.

Really enjoying this on my first listen as I type. Some of the songs are definitely more accessible and enjoyable on first listen to me more so than lots of Gigaton....I'm still struggling to get into that one.  I don't really know what people expected from this to be so disappointed? To my mind it's classic modern day Eddie. ITW is almost 15 years' old and Ukulele Songs is ~11 years' old (even though several of the songs go much further back). So I think Earthling it's a fairly good representation of where Eddie is at right now and for the last few years.

Quick P.S. just on Picture and it's the first song that would not be that appealing to me.

Love Eddie and glad that he seems to be in a happy, upbeat place after seemingly a tough few years. But it's a "nope" for me on first listen, unfortunately. There'll be a few more listens before I make up my mind on it.

I would imagine, some people's expectations were calibrated to what they felt about the singles.
