  • There are slow them there are lame live.
HTI . Oceans. Footsteps.of the girl all fit great into the nice slow start.

The end. Just breathe and some of the ed songs that should be his solo stuff don't work there.

To me? I think just breathe sounds like a country and Western song and I think lyrics are more my kind of lyrics on off he goes.

Folks still pining for 1992 Pearl Jam.
Ha!  Yeah, Pearl Jam fans are a funny bunch.  30+ years in, 11 albums... I'm thankful they haven't taken the AC/DC approach and become predictable.  I know not everybody is on board with Gigaton, but what I really enjoyed about that album is that it was different!  It didn't sound like the Brendan O'Brien-produced Backspacer / Lightning Bolt (I liked these two albums, thought they were well-produced, but they had a similar feel for me).  I thought Gigaton was very well produced and had a lot of moments unique to PJ on there.

Watt is a superfan... I think he can produce an album where, as Ed and Mike have said, he pushes them a bit and gets some great, energetic stuff on to a record.  It won't be 1992, however!  They're all around 60 years old.  Enjoy the ride.  Enjoy the change.

I do agree with a number of comments in this thread... people mentioned Ed's vocal mannerisms.  I do wish, pertaining to performing live, they would play to their strengths.  If that means losing a bunch of songs, so be it.  Do we want to see Ed trying to belt out "Blood" when he's 65 (a mere 6 years from now)??  He built up "Gods' Dice" in Chicago like it was going to be a great rarity that they were courageous enough to attempt... it sucked, he butchered the lyrics and a lot of fans think the song is mediocre anyways... let alone the casual fan... get rid of that shit.  If you're going to play 24 songs a night, I with they'd play 24 that they're still incredible at performing.

    It won’t play. What song?
Just Breathe. it's not as evident in this song as others, but it was the one I found the fastest.

  • Give me some Stone riffs and I'll be good.. and Mike ripping some solos
"And the young, they can lose hope
'Cause they can't see beyond today
The wisdom that the old can't give away, hey
    Constant recoil
Sometimes life don't leave you alone."
  • That's what we need groove and solo's

One thing about Gigaton, love it or hate it, they did things on that record they had never done before. Not every band does that after 30 years, I respect  the heck out of that.

What did they do? Base a song off a synth?

Spirtual Chaos clearly not feeling any positive things being said about Gigaton.  I think "DOTC", "Alright", "Seven O'Clock", "Buckle Up", "Retrograde", "Quick Escape" and "River Cross" were all pretty unique tracks compared to rest of the PJ catalog.  To each their own whether or not you did it or not.  I think it's a very solid album.  I guess I differ from a lot of people, I even enjoy "Buckle Up".  In comparison, I think Backspacer and Lightning Bolt broke very little new ground.

I agree, loved the sound of Seven O’Clock, Alright and the end of Retrograde. They’re all connected in my mind and I was hoping they’d stick with Josh to explore this further.
