Absolutely. It's something... we'll see if anyone who is flipping out will listen. Since their actions seem rather beyond reason, I am somewhat doubtful that a voice of reason will get through very well, but I guess you never know.
He seems to have maintained peace and order pretty well so far and has captured the hearts of his .... wait, what? Is this the same guy who had to sentence his Vice President to Death?

And how about 1 being - protecing our citizens, especially those stationed at an at risk embassy and not letting others do it? We're free. They're not. Allowing stupidity to exhibit itself in a non-violent way is part of freedom.
Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.

Oh right. I forgot about #5... I don't think there is anything wrong with telling someone to shut the fuck up. Just with forcing them to shut the fuck up. Unless you're talking about the dissemination of hate propaganda... which is arguable here. There IS a line that can be crossed when it comes to freedom of speech... I don't know enough about hate crime laws or the video in question or the circumstances around its production to say whether or not any line has been crossed.

Yeah, but you don't go around starting wars against governments over something citizens did without any connection to the government.
I agree that they've got to toughen up against the insults... I don't understand where the insecurity comes from... If they believe in Mohammed so much, you wouldn't think it would matter if others satirized or dissed him. You'd think that their "knowledge" that all the rest of us are going to hell or whatever would be satisfaction enough. If they could look at it that way, they'd save themselves a lot of energy and anger.

Agreed... again, as long as that line is the starting point for incitement of hate crimes. Outside of that, I don't know why in the fuck everyone gets so hot and bothered about "being offended." I've posted it before, but I'll post it again:
The only people who should be stopped are the ones destroying shit and hurting or killing people because they're offended.

I agree on both counts and it's times like this I am glad,
being the independent that I am, that President Obama is in office.
Now if I were a conspiracy theorist I would say good going Obama campaign...
but that is too horrible to consider and I am not one to think like this.

I hear you Edson but everytime that Pastor gets in the news it stirrs shit up but your right can't overreact to this kind of bullshit ..
So I wonder at what point someone CAN overreact and stop his speech? What if he keeps doing this shit and it's ACTUALLY going to initiate a war or another coordinated attack on America? How far does the US take this constitutional right?

Well, we don't have freedom of speech period though. When someone decides it's treason we don't. When someone decides it's inciting violence we don't. When someone decides it's slander we don't ... It's not completely black and white.

We should all be fighting to protect his rights. As deplorable as he is, all the more important. This line of thought is not just silly, it's dangerous. We're now supposed to regulate our freedoms based on what someone else thinks, threatens or does? We might as well pack up shop in that case.

Once again, I wouldn't make that claim until I know that what he's done isn't legally hate speech. I don't know that right now, so will not take a side at this point.
But I do think that pure black and white just doesn't work, and I think that applies to freedom of speech (which I take very seriously). It is NOT that simple.

Yes, national security, justice, personal safety...
I guess this is all after the fact though,
like the filmmaker is now in trouble for perhaps a probation violation
and the trailer is to be reviewed by you tube, maybe removed?
So we can all speak freely but know the consequences of our actions.

Yes... the thing is also that freedom of speech doesn't mean that we all have to just accept whatever anyone ever says without criticism and outrage. All it means is that the person speaking doesn't get prosecuted by the law. We can trash and shit all over anything that anyone has to say (just makes me think of all the times I've seen people crap all over other around here for strongly disagreeing with and insulting someone else's opinion... I actually don't see ANYTHING wrong with doing that, and I don't know why it's such a no-no, assuming you don't start calling the person names).
But again... would I prefer that this asshole's hate propaganda gets priority over avoiding a WAR? No. I don't. And I don't find that dangerous, because 1) the slippery slope argument is almost always bullshit, and 2) it's only about 1 times in a billion where something someone says actually starts a massive violent protest or a war. I do understand why people would disagree with me here though, and I don't come to this opinion lightly.

I think it happens more frequently in the middle east. Or have their been another billion negative things said about their prophet since the stupid cartoon?

From what I've read about him, he sounds like a real winner. Deplorable indeed.
However, I agree with you. Every line drawn, even the almost-invisible ones, will keep pushing out further and further until it dawns on us that we're a football field away from where it was initiated.
(I'm also not getting how destroying your city, local businesses, vehicles, etc. does any good? It reminds me of when some hometeam here loses and their fans decide, "hey, let's set fire to shit!")
As deplorable as this so called movie is , I think exactly how we regard the first amendment is either unknown or lost in the shuffle amongst some world leaders. But I suppose they need to say what they need to for their own peoples.
Also, it strikes me how easily manipulated these protesters are. Could provide a convenient distraction while other things were carried out.
I'm glad to see some cooler heads prevailing in this mess.

EVERYONE here has jumped to the conclusion that this attack occurred over a movie, and therefore is the work of muslim extremists.
Most of the independent sources I've read say that the protests over the movie were either started for, or used as cover for coordinated attacks against US interests on the anniversary of 9/11.
From what I've read - this happened in three waves: protesters, then armed gunmen, then armoured vehicles. Protesters don't drive armoured vehicles. Trained, generously funded militant groups do.
I don't find it at all surprising that so many people here just accept at face value that this must be the work of crazy muslims, because that's what the initial news stories said. It's a lot easier to point fingers at religion than to consider that these attacks might just be reprisal for NATO/US foreign policy. That would require some national introspection....and we all know that never fucking happens.
i am more inclined to think that this is blowback from our foreign policy than a bunch of people upset about a movie.
no doubt. Any excuse would have sufficed. Libya was about oppurtunity.
Heard on NPR how its not the first time an attack against a consulate has been done. Italian and english , so they said. Both after a perceived insult to the prophet or isalm.
