    anybody? anybody?

    seriously man. mind boggling.

not saying paterno was right, but the media is acting like he was the mastermind of a child porn ring. espn is the worst. while watching it last night the two most common words were 'paterno' and 'alleged'. it took over an hour for rece davis to phone in and put things in perspective by mentioning mcquery and sandusky.

I tried finding coverage on another channel, but didn't see any. Disgusting

the entire story is a shame. terribly sad for all involved (other than sandusky)

honestly, i can't wrap my head around what has happened...the same thing keeps coming up in my mind...why? why didn't mcqueary beat the shit out of sandusky? why didn't joepa confront sandusky? why didn't psu officials call the cops? why?

Unfortunately there are more questions than answers at this point. To piggyback off of your questions...what happened to the DA that disappeared (that's the strangest wrinkle IMO)?? Why did Sandusky 'retire' at the age of 55?? Etc, etc, etc

I'm officially obsessed with this. I will be following it closely going forward, even though the details won't be pretty

And Tim Curley, the guy who lied & covered it up. I'd like to know this too.

yup. from where i'm sitting, firing the 2 of them is a no-brainer. not sure why they didn't announce this yesterday. their deliberations in firing Joe may have taken longer than they thought they would. they're supposed to be meeting tomorrow....hope they completely clean house & fire everyone that was involved.

WHY...because PSU had to continue the now apparent myth that this school was above such hideous scandelous crimes and behavior. The school became more important than the unknown victim in that shower the school's reputation was MORE important than whatever could possibly have happened to that 10 year old child. That's why.

my questions are more rhetorical than anything else...i know why nothing was done but as a human being how can one stay quiet...no job, no legacy, nothing is worth more than stopping a predator...i understand completely what went on at psu...i just don't understand why it did...if that makes any sense

Deep down, I think we all know the answer to the "whys?" To cover their own asses and the reputation of the school. Joe probably didn't want to learn anymore from Sandusky than he already knew. Dude hid his head in the sand, it's as simple as that. And I bet dozens of people outside of Paterno and McQueary knew about this.

yeah, I agree. I bet even some of the trustees knew about it. Paterno is the scapegoat in this mess, but he's far from the only one to blame.

The DA that disappeared isn't getting enough attention...that is completely fucked. Interesting timing w/ Sandusky "retiring" at the age of 55. Wasn't he supposedly the head coach in waiting back then? This whole thing makes me sick.

I know man I'm just sickened by the whole thing....I've 3 teens two boys who play football and 1 girl who swims and I make sure to talk to them to make them aware of predators and what they can do. i even have an app that can tell me where registered sex offenders are in my area and there's 3 just outside of our gated community and I let them know exactly where they are especially when they go out on the atv's.

Well you know why Sandusky retired at age 55. Because just a year earlier, he got caught in the 1998 incident. "Okay so I'll keep molesting children, but I gotta be less visible to the public." I mean, he was a sought-after head-coaching candidate at that time. He was NCAA assistant of the year during his last season.

The missing DA is very interesting. To not prosecute a case where a man ADMITS TO POLICE that he showered with and fondled a young boy is probably the deplorable sin a district attorney can make. Talk about "enabling." And so why didn't he prosecute? Pressure over going after such a local legend? And he didn't go missing till 2005. Did he somehow become aware of the 2002 incident and think to himself "Oh shit, I didn't prosecute this guy, and now he's at it again and I'm fucked." Who knows?

LOTS of stuff is gonna come out about this over the next few weeks so if you're officially obsessed with it (as I have been over the past two days), you'll have a lot to keep you occupied. Even though I know inevitably you're just gonna pin this this whole Sandusky scandal on Howard's contract and it's poor parameters.

based on the recent phils contract rumors I may end up blaming amaro for all that's wrong in the world

My wife and her friends plan a PSU football trip every year. We were supposed to hit the nebraska game this weekend. We bailed because she's pregnant, but her friends are all heading out there tomorrow. Gonna be such a weird scene this weekend...kinda wish I was going for the experience

Purely speculation (as most details of this case are at this point), but I wonder if the DA was one of sandusky's high level clients...assuming that creep was pimping kids out.

Yeah I'm not to into the notion of Papelbon but I guess that's something for the other thread. As for Saturday's Nebraska game, I rarely ever watch college football. But having been to about 4 or 5 PSU games over the years, I'll surly be tuning into this just to see the scene.

  • I hope they lose everything and have to face each victim from 1998 on and explain why he needed hindsight to tell him he didn't do enough. And his wife should be forced to sit next to him the entire time, so it's perfectly clear the character of the man she married.

Due to multiple threats made against Assistant Coach Mike McQueary, the University has decided it would be in the best interest of all for Assistant Coach McQueary not to be in attendance at Saturday's Nebraska game.

what a joke...threats? that's why he shouldn't be there?! do the board of trustees truly understand what has happened?

Wow this sort of tells you what other thoughts might have been going through McQueary's head other than the shock of seeing what Sandusky was doing to that still unknown boy. Like I need this job...I need this promotion but the boy, the boy he'll be ok.....

There should be no debate as to which of these assistants, Rouse or McQueary, did the right thing.

Whatever his motivation was, and whatever type of coach he was, Rouse at least did the right thing by not being another Division I men's basketball or football coach patsy.

The story of these two assistants paints a clear message about the current condition of big-time college football or men's basketball that appears will have no solution: Protect and serve the best interests of the head coach, even in the face of a criminal and amoral tragedy, and you may just get promoted.

Assistant Coach Mike McQueary ... so did he make a deal to keep his job

cause I don't get why he isn't on the chopping block
and have charges against him for not reporting what he saw.

I mean really if anyone witnessed what he saw would they not go punch the guy out
    or call the police
unless more are guilty of the same conduct making it somehow acceptable ...
    oh don't let that be

this can not be to just protect an organization
