but i can spell his name correctly.

    ILYA KOVALCHUK = correct

    the thread title is off.

    http://www.nhl.com/ice/player.htm?id=84 ... l-keymatch

    lists it as Kovalchuk.

not a real reliable source sometimes but: Ilya Valeryevich Kovalchuk according to wikipedia

who cares though? obviously we are talking about the same hockey player. I dunno why you have only two posts in this thread about it's about grammar instead of hockey.

because the name looks weird to me.
    no big deal.

spelling is important even for sports fans.

    sports?
    nope
i almost despise and loathe sports.

also it is good fun messing with sports fans.
    good stuff.

wow the last 2 pages of this thread just went to total shit faster then kovy's contract

why couldnt the devils just sign him to a 11 year deal worth 98.3 million in the first place. he probably has 8 good years left in him anyways. i say good on the nhl for nixing this deal.

Well he is talented, I'll give him that.

wow a flyers fan and a habs fan agreeing. this can't be good.
I feel almost as bad as that time I agreed with Black35...

So I'll bite - why'd you say there are no C's in his name, then spell it with a C?

    OK Conspiracy theorists...
ESPN is reporting that the Devils and Lou were aware that the NHL was going to turn down the contract BEFORE the press conference announcing the signing of Ilya...

Why would they do that... Force the league to make the decision, so that the NHLPA get involved? Lou gets his way on these types of contracts (he obviously was against it)?

I am having trouble understanding this if they really wanted Kovalchuk...

my feeling is that Lou is against this signing but the owner really needs this. why would they do it, same reason why a lot of people do something. publicity

think about it. the fans of the devils are pissed off right now saying what the hell. other teams sign players for long term contracts and there is no problem but we do it and the NHL says no.

the other 2 or 3 contracts previously signed that lower the cap hit are nothing compared to this.

Will Devils fans feel the same when the Flyers or Rangers sign Joe Thornton to a 50 year deal and a very low cap hit?

Ron Francis has a lifetime contract with the Carolina Hurricanes. He's to be paid $100,000 per year for the rest of his life, and when he dies, he's to be buried wearing his Hartford Whalers uniform. And skates.
I love to turn you on

I just got home from seeing Inception in the Garden State. Saw a guy wearing a Devil's hat and shirt. Told him I was a fan and asked what he though about Kovachoo. He said he worked for the Devils and it is still a done deal. So there you have it, PearlJam.com breaking the story, not ESPN, not Yahoo Sports.
