I agree with you on all these points. how many more years before the islanders move to Brooklyn again?
    0 years

They either move to queens where the empty junkyard is next to citi field and partner with the mets or stay where they are and partner with the Shinnecock tribe with their casino idea.

    a man can dream right?

I'd like this idea: Zubrus, Elias, and Kovalchuk. You've got a vet and a super star and solid player

    That's probably line two..

    Line 1... Zach/Jaime/Clarkson or Zubrus

These NHL contracts are getting ridiculous. 17 years????

its brilliant if you think about it. people used to complain that players don't stay with one team anymore but if this trend continues than they will.

He's not going to be playing for the next 17 years. In Lou we trust. He knows exactly what he's doing and has thought this through every which way. We all know Kovie is more than willing to play in the KHL - so this is almost NO gamble for Loulou. The precedent has been set that you can "lend" a player under contract to the K and it not count against the Cap, so if he **** the bed, he can always just go home and Lou can have a do-over.

Kovachoo isn't playing 17 more years for sure, but his Cap hit doesn't count once he retires as he isn't old enough for that yet. And this way, they don't have as huge a Cap hit. Not a terrible move for the Devils, in my opinion.

  • the NHL has rejected kovalchuk's ridiculous contract on grounds that the devils were trying to manipulate the salary cap by making it 17 years. good for you, NHL. you're doing something right for once.

He obviously wants to play in NJ and likes his chances of winning a cup there so they will make it happen another way.

maybe this time they'll make it happen by not cheating.

I think the NHL is going to get screwed by rejecting this trade. i can already see NJ filing a complaint. main arg. is where the f were you last year with pronger and the flyers?

true, i can see this being the new reason for a lock out. goodwork assman, instead of getting hockeyaway from cities who dont deserve them just stop playing the game.

I am not even a devils fan but i can't believe how mad i am about this. if i am the devils and everyother team in the nhl i would call assman out and say who r you to tell me who i can sign and pay with my money when you as the nhl are usuing my money to pay players on some other team.

Luongo and Hossa signed until they're 43, Pronger until age 42, but Kovy's contract can't go to age 44? Don't tell me Kovy won't still be scoring into his forties - he'll be skating against senior citizens and shooting on an ancient Luongo!

this comment in the comment section from the tsn link is dead on

i bet kovy goes to the KHL now. good job buttman on loosing a great superstar of your league.

Explain the elimination of the 2-line pass, the rectangle behind the goal, the constant penalty calls? These were all done to put an end to the Devils...and you know, it worked for the next 5 years until Lou and co. had enough and said we will get Kovy and keep our strong goaltending and D and let's see other teams defend now and take penalties and have swiss-cheese goalies...and the whole league is not happy that the Devils will be a huge force for the next decade and everyone put pressure on that rat fuck bettman.

When Hossa signed in Chicago people were happy he wasn't with the Red Wings anymore...when the Flyers extended Pronger, nobody said anything because it's the Flyers...but when the Devils make a huge move, people start crying...I'm sure Lou is just laughing at this right now, going to bed happy and salivating at the chance to eat betty out...Kovy will be a Devil, dont worry...if anything, he might help us out and make the cap hit even less!

Im glad they rejected it. It took a few days because they probably had to make sure they had legal grounds to do so, and/or blessing from the NHLPA.

Its a bullshit deal and one that would certainly bring about another lockout. As it is, teams are allowed certain methods and leeway to circumvent the cap to a point. This deal completely blows the doors off the cap and we are right back to square 1.

It is a bullshit way to get around the cap. But it is by the rules, and I don't see how you can allow a 10 year deal and not a 17 year deal. There is no defining rule.

What really pisses me off is that Bettman and his cronies sacrificed a season to get this CBA and Salary Cap and they couldn't even get it right. These long term deals are just reminders to everyone how much of a tool Bettman is.
