its a pointless argument. either you believe killing is acceptable in rare situations, or you're a fundamentalist that believes in all or nothing.

if you want a more complex answer dig up one of the millions of death penalty/pacifist threads that pops up here. mine is in there somewhere.

religious teachings? HAHA. No, I'm agnostic. WHAT DOES IT HAVE TO DO WITH INTELLIGENCE? ARE YOU SERIOUS?? OH MY GOD. Highly evolved species (most humans) can and should find an alternative to ending someone's life.

There is one situation and one situation only: self defence if your life is in danger and the only way not to die is to kill the other person.

if it's a pointless argument why do you keep arguing? You say it's justifiable in "extremely rare situations" but then go on to say that all rapists and child molesters should all rot, which would make it an hourly occurence, and hardly rare. Let's just throw them all in a big rocket and send them all to the moon!

I'm not one of those people that thinks everyone can be rehabilitated. There are a lot of malfunctioning humans out there that need to be locked up. But everyone has a right to life.
i didnt say that (that was someone else), but anyway i guess it depends on what rare is. i still dont see what intelligence has to do with it. Intelligent people should seek the best way to handle justice. that may or may not mean death.

but at least you are not one of the crazies on here who think that self defense isnt even a good reason. thats who im used to arguing with here.

    we are not all humane.
it is not humane to harm children.
it is not humane to torture women, skin them alive and dance around in their skins.
it is pretty far from humane when soneone is a rapist who cannot ever stop.

solution for now is DP and prison.
    kill em all?
    why?
not everyone should wear a bullet upside thier skull.
a select few deserve to be put to sleep.
it is so easy, so simple, that i am baffled that some of you do not see this as simplistic.

you keep saying you are baffled. no, it's not humane to do the things you mentioned. So, should we lower ourselves to the level of that person? No, we shouldn't. Let them sit in prison and think about what they've done.

it is not lowering one's self to protect goodness.
it is not lowering one's self to wipe out evil.
i vote for love & kindness.
    maniacs should be destroyed.
    easy shit.

also, i suggest those against the dp, i suggest you folks get a job at your local prison.
make sure it's a maximum security facility full of nut jobs.

then i want you to read the reports on each convict.

there is too much sympathy for the murders here

and not enough for the victims

    think of your life ending
20 years too soon because of some maniac
    40 years
    60

and you want him sheltered and fed for the rest of his

    it's like a light switch.
    on or off.
    on or off.

i do not lose sleep over a predator being put away in a box and rotting underground.
it does not bother me in the least.

that gives me and you extra cleaner air to breathe.
    it gives society a cleansing.

  • this is where you are incorrect. this has nothing to do with sympathy for any one individual. it's about murder being wrong. if you have ever been to a prison, you'd know that it ain't peachy.

i feel that some of us are being judged for believing in the sanctity of ALL human life.

what i would like to know is who decided humans would be judge jury and executioner??? oh thats right humans did. and look what a stellar job weve done so far.... killing the planet and killing ourselves with hate and retribution. and all for an eye for an eye, honour killings... what??? do not tell us we are soft and full of shit simply because weve chosen not to kill seek revenge and can see no rightness in execution.

man what a crazy debate, I'm on the fence on this one but just for shyts and giggles can any of you give a honest answer as to why a convicted murder'er should not be killed for his crime ? and opinions don't count cause we all have them and yours is no more correct than mine, if I agreed with capital punishment I would say in support of it that exacution is the best way to make sure this person dose not kill again, there have been many people that got out of prison and killed again or raped again or molested a young boy or girl again, it's like using your family and friends as human ginnie pigs...OHHH dang he killed again that person would still be alive if we wacked him the first time..do you get what I'm saying ?
and life in prison...many people have escaped and killed and even if they don't the cost to house a inmate a year is a butt load of money and guess who pays for that, you know when a animal attacks or even kills a human that animal is killed and most people agree with that..a animal with animal instincts to survive vs. a human with the power of reason "wright and wrong" is given 20 years to life or life with out parol where that person is fed and housed with t.v a gym and even a job to earn money to spend in the prison store...no justice some would say.
as for me i honestly don't know if it's o.k to take a human life for any reason..I really don't know ?
