The way the shows are announced is utter chaos. They could let the people attend the proper shows if they only did things more organized. Its like a circus now, Shows, rumors shows, more rumors, do I buy Wed Tix, when thats a bad day for me, but no Tuesday shows which would be awesome, oh wait, now theres a Tuesday show, to late, cant go, already took extra days off for Wed. Its kids stuff. This needs to stop. THIS IS NOT THE WAY ITS ALWAYS BEEN. They used to announce the whole tour at once and there was no choas. Tell the Captain the boats not safe were drowning, turns out he's the one making waves.
First of all, nowhere had I insinuated that I know anything about scheduling a band's tour - all I suggested was that the bands whose touring schedules I follow simply do not release their schedules the way Pearl Jam chooses to. It's like handing us one piece of a puzzle at a time, and telling us each time that it's done.
Second, I'm pretty sure that I wrote that I feel they could dig themselves out of a hole by simply giving us a good reason on why the delay for these show announcements.
Finally - I didn't think I was BITCHING AND MOANING, as you stated so eloquently.. this is a discussion board, and if we all believed one thing, this place wouldn't exist. It's our abilities to discuss topical matters civilly that differentiates between discussing, debating, arguing, and bitching.
I wasn't saying you were bitching and moaning, I said that if Pearl Jam announced their 10/31 show and canceled it, there would be bitching and moaning. Thats obvious.
IT MAKES SENSE NOT TO RELEASE ALL FOUR DATES AT ONCE. Why does no one realize this?
I posted this in another thread:
I think they release some shows at the same venue before others is to see the interest. If the first 1 or 2 sell out, they can add more. If they release all 4 at once and they don't sell well, they'd have to cancel some. Announcing dates later > canceling shows.
Remember people, they are catering to people who want to go to one show, not ALL FOUR! Sheesh! I know they're not sitting there going "Ok so how do we plan this so people who want to come from out of town to all of the shows are able to get as many tickets as they want with the best seats possible?" PLEASE.
Very well put!
If somone owned a shop, why would they bring-in 4 cases of a "trendy" item if they knew that the last 2 cases may barely sell, and the restocking fee (cost of cancelled shows) or cost of inventory spoilage (unsold tickets) is very high?
A smart businessperson would mitigate the risk by bringing-in 2 cases straight away, and then, once he/she sees that the items are selling, bring-in 2 more. The cost of losing a sale (due to only having 2 cases available) is much less then the cost of "dead" inventory (empty seats/unsold tickets).

I've already booked my flight and hotel, but I am not dissappointed. If I can see 3 out of 4 PJ shows in Philly, I will be completely satisfed. That's all I can swing - traveling solo is expensive enough
Actually go back a few years and they never announced these shows so poorly. There actually is a precedent. Up until after the 06 tour the announced everything at once. Good thing I saved vacation to go, and now I'm not because of how they announced these. I wasn't taking off work for the way these shows fell. This isn't the band either necessarily, it's management. Something needs to change. It's, to put it bluntly, treating the fans like shit. And the people on here that like to bash the people who can't go because of the way they announce these shows are just as bad. I quit coming on here because of them. This used to be a good community, but quite a lot of people have ruined it. But the point is, they really need to pull their heads out of their asses with these shows already.
maybe instead of playing the same cities 4 nights in a row, they should tour like a real band. If they really want to expand their fanbase, they are gonna have to hit the road. what happened to the band that would play a fucking bathroom if they had to?

Hmmmm, maybe it's not '91 anymore? Do you really think they do it to piss you off? Why do you take it personal?
Well, since you know that PJ doesn't announce all of their shows at once, perhaps it would have been a good idea to wait before you booked a flight.
It ain't as if there isn't a precident.

Wasn't the 06 U.S. tour announced in several batches?
I wasn't going to ACL for just one band... the fact that Ben Harper and Brett Dennen were playing actually sold me, PJ was what made me look at the lineup! The Dead Weather is also there, they are the shit!
Since Ben is playing with PJ in Seattle and other places and I just saw him at Bonnaroo and Mile High with the Relentless 7, I am ok passing on ACL... I saw Brett Dennen 4 times recently as well and 2 more at Bonnaroo... The Dead weather is playing Denver next week, and I'll be there.. I'm not selling my ACL ticket just yet, Dead Weather could BLOW ME AWAY!
P.S. I met a few of them last week, good peeps, Jack wasn't there!
I'm just glad and grateful for a couple of things...
A. Living in a place where bands come through on a regular basis...
B. I do not possess the 'NEED' to see Pearl Jam.
...
Sure, I love to see them... when I can. But, i can only see them within my means. Which means, I can't go all over world to see them... and fortunately for me, they come to me.
Maybe I would feel differently if I lived someplace where they don't play... but, I don't, so I don't know how I'd feel.
But, I do feel bad for those fans... especially those living in the South. But, look at the bright side... they played Bonaroo and will play Austin City Limits, so at least it's something. Just think about how the fans in Argentina feel.

Regarding staggering the release of the dates - I realize (and I think most people realize) that it makes sense not to release all four dates at once from a financial stand-point. For a band that clearly recognizes they have a fan-base that is willing to travel for them, however, and considering the shows have been sold out for weeks now, why have they been taking their sweet time for these?

taper is still bent out of shape that he got busted for pot possesion at Bonnaroo and had to fly back to Tennessee for the court appearance. He'll always hate the south.
I'm kinda surpised to see so many people that are OK with the way tours are being announced lately.
Personally, I think it sucks. Not knowing if they'll play your area so you have to decide to travel or not...then adding shows at a much later date to the city you are traveling to...while it makes sense to them to ensure sellouts, it sucks having all that travel cost and then knowing for an incremental amount more you could have seen another show and made it that much more worth it.
So, I'll keep trying to hit the shows I can, but they are making it very hard to do so. There is no way you can say that the current method is "fan friendly"...it's the opposite.

You cant announce shows that have not been confirmed. Concert dates and announcements themselves are like little transactions. Money and rights etc are exchanged sometimes. People that then have those rights can choose to annoucement them how they want, AL la radio shows who then give away tickets.
Things change ALL THE TIME. If you really think "not that much" has changed since '00 than you need more help than I can give you.
