    So, "legally" means illegally. I would bet most illegally purchased guns are used for crimes, otherwise why would someone need an illegal gun that couldn't be traced to them?

    There is no point. How many people use their seatbelt without a law being passed to wear a seatbelt?

    Sometimes society proves that it needs the gov't to prevent it from harming itself. Gun laws are no different than seatbelt laws, helmet laws, safety laws, etc.
