  • The Pfizer vaccine is making attending this concert in July a lot more probable now. I'm relieved.

I'd say more possible than probable. Still a way to go before its all approved and rolled out.

Hopefully its done in time for the tour but its not certain

  • I still  cant see it. The uk only bought 40 mill vaccine doses thats 2 needed per person so 65 mill population  only 20 mil vaccinated and that takes 28 days from 1st dose until 2nd and immune.  Its not gonna be safe until way past june/july . Just my thoughts  on it though.

Yes but higher risk persons will be vaxxed first. Which will drive down the pressures on the NHS - which is the key driver of lockdown.

Glastonbury has been cancelled. Hyde Park will be next.  The UK gov. want everyone to get their 1st COVID vaccine by September

Borris has said today if all continues to go well regarding vaccine roll out etc.. June 21st will see all legal social limitations removed. I guess the question might be will the band only play Hyde park if the rest of the tour is going ahead? Or would they come and play the 2 nights regardless?

No earlier than he said, makes it a gamble to plan to go ahead when it could easily slip a few weeks

This is true of course. Maybe it would be enjoyed more by all if it was next summer anyway.

I think if it was I'd prefer they just carry current tickets over too... Rather than going through the purchase again. Although being a festival of sorts it's probably not their decision.
  • As per the BBC:
I just don't know if it's smart to move forward in planning to attend BST Hyde Park in July at this point. We're talking over 60k people each Friday/Saturday on back to back weekends.

When will nightclubs, concert halls and theatres open?

Some theatre performances, concerts and sports events could be allowed to open from 17 May.

Indoor events will be allowed to host up to 1,000 people or 50% of a venue's capacity, whichever is lower. Outdoor events will be allowed to have 4,000 people or 50% capacity, whichever is lower.

The government will also make special provision for large, outdoor, seated venues where crowds can be safely spaced, allowing up to 10,000 people or 25% of total seated capacity, whichever is lower.

Going to larger events above capacity limits and nightclubs could be allowed from 21 June.

Seems obvious that they should  move the show to a smaller venue and limit entry to 10 club members.

Front page news on a couple of UK papers this morning (Times, Metro) that festivals will go ahead in the UK. Interview with Melvin Benn (who runs Reading, Download and Wireless festivals) saying that he's planning for his festivals to take place. Still a lot of ifs, buts and maybes for BST & Pearl Jam tho. It's the hope that kills ya isn't it....

Do Pearl Jam come over and just do the 2 shows as Hyde Park in the UK, whilst cancelling/postponing the rest of the European Tour?  I would absolutley love the UK shows to go ahead but think there is only an extremely small chance it will happen.

Don't see that happening. Getting a crew and gear together. Rehearsing, then shipping everything over for just two shows.

  • I agree it’s unlikely they’d do this.  I wonder if there’s a scenario where all the outdoor shows proceed and the indoor shows are deferred.  I doubt it - just looking for something to hope for before the whole thing gets postponed again.

Or; maybe the opportunity to get a crew together, and more importantly generate income for them because they haven't been paid in a while, and rehearse and play 2 live shows might be seen as a real opportunity to start to get back to it?

I thought there was no way these shows would happen, however, if each stage of the UK’s plans are successful, then there is every possibility these shows will happen. If you’d asked me 2 weeks ago I would have said no chance.

It's a wild ride isn't it. Bets are still against it imo but it is crazy the different messages being sent out from countries like Canada and the US compared to the UK. If you ask anyone over here about timeline you would think we are masking up for ever.

Matt84 is spot on! the mood music in the UK has changed significantly in the last 2 weeks.  The news is full of the future, how we live with COVID and mounting pressure form the hospitality and entertainment industries to release the lockdown and social distancing restrictions quicker as the vaccination programme progresses and hospital admissions and the COVID deaths continue to fall. I live in hope.

Saw the Australian interview with Ed whereby he predicts the first place they will play will be Australia.....there wasnt much reading between the lines needed

Agree. I can see the band and BST falling out..... Maybe a return to the O2 in 2022

I don't see how it makes economic sense for PJ to do this for 2 shows

I'm sure the cost of all these things - "Getting a crew and gear together. Rehearsing, then shipping everything over" to the EU  - is factored into their gross appearance fees for the entire EU dates.

If the motivation to get their crew (and themselves) some cash then a tour of Australia/NZ with nearby stops in COVID safe countries makes way more sense than a couple shows in London. New shows that haven't been sold yet so ticket pricing can be set accordingly.
