Canada
Tougher question than 5 years ago.
Canada has the Hip, Rush, OLP, Matthew Good et al plus you dont have to worry about bankruptcy if you get sick.
But now Rush and the Hip are retired so....tougher choice.0 -

And the last part of your long sentence reeks of ignorance. I think you realise that is not how it works.
Do I need to point out again that on the rule of law index, the nordic countries got a pretty good hang of it all things considered. No need to worry about abuse of power etc. Move down a few spots on the list for that.

Honestly, I’m surprised that even you are ok with someone being kept in jail with no charges for this long. Especially since it’s not for murder.hippiemom = goodness0 -

But generally speaking, if arrested and under normal circumstances, you will see a judge within a day or 2 to ask for your release. I belive that have 72 hours to charge a suspect or release.
But all I need to know about the law and if ever arrested is just lawyer up.Give Peas A Chance…0 -

And in Sweden, if a conclusion is made by a court that you are a suspect on level 2 and 3 (out of 3), the crime is severe enough and there is risk you might hinder the investigation, the risk of more crimes or the risk of fleeing you can be held in pre-trial custody. Like in many other countries.
It's not really the same as arrested. A cop in Sweden can only hold you "arrested" for a few hours. If suspected of a crime a prosecutor can decide to hold you for 3 days (72 hours). But then a prosecutor can go to a court to ask to held a suspect (if on level 2 or 3) for 2 weeks if the criterias are believed to be met about hindering the investigation etc.
So people do not go around paying off witnesses etc, like Epstein did so well in the US of A.
(I can't find correct terms in english for the different stages of being held, everything comes back as "arrested".)"Mostly I think that people react sensitively because they know you’ve got a point"0 -

Now since the police had the wrong person, should he have been kept indefinitely ... no, he was home, less than 4 hours after his arrest.
Formal charges never materialized.
No way do I want to live in a system that can just detain people without charges. This is what I expect from Mexico.Give Peas A Chance…0 -

What was the crime?
Was there risk of him fleeing, him messing with the investigation or him continuing with crime?"Mostly I think that people react sensitively because they know you’ve got a point"0 -

Also, the US have a "utlämningstillstånd" with Sweden - whatever thats called in english - so back in the US they should have arrested him if he fled and put him on a flight to Sweden (if he were needed for the trial)"Mostly I think that people react sensitively because they know you’ve got a point"0 -
