Reports are the phillies countered the jays offer with Happ,Taylor,Carrasco and Donald. And the Jays turned it down right away. I wouldn't give up Happ,Drabek and Brown either in a package. I bet the Phillies offer to the Jays would get u Cliff Lee though. Cliff Lee has been on fire back to back complete games i believe.

i'd give them all 3 - what are the chances that any of those 3 ends up being as good as Halladay? Very little. I mean as good as a prospect as Drabek is he would have to be the best pitcher in baseball to reach Halladay heights. Even if Drabek ends up being as good as Hamels that is still not as good as Halladay. Flat out if the Phils don't end up getting Halladay it will be the worst move in Philly sports history in my opinion. He would instantly be the 2nd greatest starting pitcher in franchise history behind Steve Carlton. Must make this trade regardless of what prospects needed to give up. I suspect they will and all of this is posturing right now on both sides.

I disagree with this. First off, you know there have been worst moves in Philly sports history. Second, signing him wouldn't automatically make him the second best starting pitcher in franchise history behind Carlton. He would have to actually do something for the Phllies first. I'm not taking away from how great he's been over the past 10 years, but he'd have to repeat all that greatness as well as help win the World Series to jump that high on the Phillies all-time roster in my view.

That being said, I totally see where you're coming from and I also hope they get Halladay because he's awesome. But I really think they can repeat as World Champions without him. Sure it will be tough...but it's always tough. Even with the injuries, I think the pitching staff is formidable for the National League and the Phillies offense is good enough to pick up the slack when it has to. My buddy is a big follower of this Halladay situation and he said to me the other day, "How are we gonna beat the Dodgers in the playoffs without Halladay?" To which I replied, "The same way we beat 'em last year."

but to win the world series we will probably have to beat the Red Sox or Yankees and not just the Dodgers. Getting Halladay instantly makes this team the favorite by far in the NL and probably the overall favorite to win it again. I don't see the Dodgers having any shot against the Phils with Halladay and Hamels at the top fo the rotation. The only downside is if Halladay comes here and sucks or gets hurt. very little chance he is going to suck. Also it would be shocking if Drabek or Happ comes close to matching Halladay's career. Getting Halladay gives the Phils a chance to be a dynasty of the mid-90s Yankees variety. without him they can still win but their chances are greatly greatly increased with him.

also think about this - if another team, like the Mets, had a chance to give up one good major league pitcher and 2 prospects for the best pitcher in baseball wouldn't you feel they got him for nothing? Because they are our prospects doesn't make them any more valuable. This is not Joe Blanton we are trading for (not disrespect to Joe Blanton who has been great), this guy is widely acclaimed as the best pitcher in baseball.

and please tell me what moves you think have been worse in Philly sports than not trading for the best pitcher in baseball for only one good but not great major leaguer and 2 minor leaguers?

Here are two moves on the same day 6/16/86 that destroyed the 76ers franchise:

Sixers trade C Moses Malone, F Terry Catledge and two 1st-round picks to Washington for G Cliff Robinson and C Jeff Ruland

Sixers trade 1st-round pick and 1st pick overall (C Brad Daugherty) to Cleveland for F Roy Hinson

yes horrible trade for sure but Moses was never again close to be a dominant force and Brad Daughterty was a very good player but not a hall of famer or anything. Not getting Halladay will outweigh these.

Moses and Daugherty made 8 All Star games after the trade. Halladay will not make 8 All Star games with the Phils if he gets traded.

Not getting Halladay will not doom the Phils as they will make the playoffs this year. Trading away a perennial all star and future hall of famer, the number 1 pick in the draft who would become a perennial all star, and 2 additional first round picks decimated the franchise.

It was a fucking bar fight. I would guess people have died because of bar fights before. But because it happen near the ball park it's a Philly thing. I'm so sick of people jumping on philly fans, it's funny how something happens some where else but it isn't a big story but if it happens in philly omg them horrible fans. There's people on this board that buy shit just to make a profit later does that make ALL PJ fans assholes??? I think not!!!

I think a move for Halladay is a no-brainer if your the phillies....Sure these young guys they are giving up are definate talents , but noone knows how " good" they really are until they pitch against big leaguers.....Jimmy Gobble was 11-1 in AA , and where is he now? buried somewhere in the bullpen? ALWAYS GO FOR THE PROVEN GUY !!!!!!

    JUST MY HUMBLE OPINION :?
