Well, at least they got Sexson instead of Bonds. I don't care what a couple ESPN analysts say. Bonds is a disease to any team willing to take him.

The Giants were a consistent winner with Bonds. Just like TO the media likes to make him out to more of a distraction then he really is.

Do you know that TO has been to the playoffs in all but 3 seasons as a player?

And that Bonds has been to the playoffs 7 times?

Sexson will be no help to the Yanks where as Bonds would help especially if Matsui is out for the year.

As an A's fan I've been calling for Billy Beane to pick up the phone and get Bonds in here. Especially since we have exceeded everyone's expectations this year.

Here's to sweeping the Yanks to start the second half!!!

Example 457635 of why mariano is the best ever. Papelbum, gives up a run and would have cost the AL the game, until Billy Wagner comes in and blows the save for the NL. What does Mariano do? 1 2/3 IP. Too ba dthey couldn't score and get him the win.

    Un-earned run.

I think the error on the catcher was kind of the reason they scored.

Papelbon didn't look like much of a bum last post season.

Honestly, I don't want that emotional baggage crap on the team. I mean, what with the whole A-Rod/Madonna fiasco and just the fact that they're the Yankees, the media already goes crazy. Add Bonds, and it'll just get nasty. The guy has not hit a baseball for a long time, and he's old. I can't imagine him providing any more than what Sexson would provide. And I already hate the whole, "Oh, the Yankees only win because the happen to have the most money - they just buy out all the big name players" insult...Bonds would add more fuel to the fire, that's for sure.
  • yeah, remember that onion article a few years ago, about the Yankees signing every player in baseball? Bonds would make it 3 out of 5 from that press conference "photo". Mike Piazza and Sammy Sosa can't be far behind

  • So, what the fuck? They moved the last home game of the season to 8:05 to accomodate ESPN. That's terrible. Thanks a lot,

i have tickets to the second to last game, and they are yet to announce the time. it's a saturday... i wonder if it's going to be a FOX game or YES game.

i think YES deserves to call that entire series. not ESPN or FOX.

YANKEES pitching ace Joba Chamberlain has been letting loose lately. A few nights back, he was spotted at the MLB.com 33 Club party, where "He climbed onto Alyssa Milano's table and starting dancing," said our witness. "He stayed in the VIP room until 3 a.m." After Tuesday night's All-Star Game, a super-friendly Chamberlain pulled up to Hudson Terrace in a white stretch limo, where he happily signed autographs and posed for pictures with fans.

actually, yeah. I thought there might be 1 or 2 things left in the entire sport that were sacred. I guess I'm just naive. I know they can make the playoffs and it would be a mostly moot point, but there are plenty of people who were lucky enough to get tickets for the season finale who can't afford or just can't get playoff tickets. Plus, it's a Sunday. It should be an entire day, pre and post game celebration. This game will end at midnight. It's disgusting

Lucky for the All-Star break. We got to start the "second half" with the top 3 starters of the rotation. Making it easier to start off with a 3 game winning streak.

cano being his typical self. off to a red hot second half.

loved how they brought pettitte out for the 8th. would have been nice to see him go for the complete game though.

    mariano cy young?

I doubt they'll give it to a reliever, but if they do, Francisco Rodriguez would probably be the front-runner.

they'll never give it to him (see: 2005).

They gave it to Eckersley as a reliever though. As for K-Rod he might be a choice. But he has more save opportunities.

its a tough call. he definitely causes a cy young buzz during his most dominating seasons. it gets talked about and talked about, just like awarding a DH an MVP. but i think he will retire with one on his resume.

hell, i'd vote for him (i might be a little biased though). but it seems like some sports writers have the idea that relief pitchers shouldn't be eligible for the cy young because they don't pitch enough innings.

it's funny. he can't win the MVP because he's a pitcher and he can't win the cy young because he's the wrong type of pitcher. so he misses out on both.

2005 was the best example. rivera was the most dominant pitcher in the league by far, but they wanted to give it to a starter and bartolo colon won 21 games that year.

2008 is a much better year for front-end pitchers. you have justin duchscherer and cliff lee tearing up the league. then you have guys like roy halladay, joe saunders, ervin santana, daisuke matsuzaka, and felix hernandez. i think rivera is as good as any of them, but i just don't see him getting the votes. hopefully i'm wrong.

Another nice win. A little concerned with Matsui and Posada possibly out for the rest of the season. Would sure be nice to see Jason Bay in left field. I like Gardner for the way he plays the game but he's a slap hitter with (in my opinion) pretty limited potential.

I absolutely love the way the bullpen has been pitching. I like Robertson a lot! Also impressed with the way Girardi has handled them. I heard a stat on the broadcast last night I think that the Yanks are one of the top teams in the AL in bullpen innings, but no one individual pitcher is in the top 15 in IP. That's quite a change from Torre who overworked guys the last couple of years.

How about Moose! 13 wins now!

    3.5 games back
