They both got much, much better immediately after he left. i'll look it up later, but they both improved by 15 or so games the year after the best player in baseball left their team. A curse may b a bit strong, but he's definately a drag on teams. You think guys like it when, after winning these last 2 against Tampa, and 2 straight from Boston before that, they have to answer questions about ARod and what he did with his D-Rod?
i didn't hear any questions about that after those games. i heard one before the game for girardi about dealing with a player that has that going on.
and seattle won 116 games after he signed with texas in 2001, of course they replaced him with a great player like ichiro.Reading 2004

I'm sure those teams are glad he's not in their lineups.I miss igotid880 -

He came to our team and we haven't won a championship since that time. ARod=Hex. He's done it to the other teams he's been on also, Seattle and Texas.
yeah, but same could be said about giambi, moose, matsui, wang, cano. those are five core guys that have been with the team same amount of time or longer than arod.
he's not a curse. the whole team falls off the map come playoff time.0 -

and do you recall what happened in the '04 playoffs?
and reading about him bandying himself about in Boston with some chick on the side when he should have been focused on preparing himself mentally for the game, does not help the matter.
sheffield, jeter, arod, giambi, matsui going a combined something like 4-30 in games 4-7 is what did us in in 2004. oh, and also mariano blowing a few saves.0 -
Do you guys think they should pick up Richie Sexon?I miss igotid880

But they need a bat off the bench. There bullpen seems okay for now. They have other pitchers in the minors who can come up. Bruney is on his way hopefully. I know Richie Sexson isn't hitting great. But I hear he has good numbers off lefthanders.I miss igotid880 -

all in all, we're not in bad shape. we're still really close to both boston and tampa. pitching is looking better than i thought it'd be. we just need to hit."Have you ever.........pooped a balloon?"

I'm not a fan of this guy at all. He's barely made it over the Mendoza line the past 2 seasons. And the strikeouts! If it were later in the year and we had the expanded roster then you could maybe argue it just because of his numbers against lefties. I'm just really biased against guys who strike out that much. Nothing good happens when you strikeout. By making some kind of contact with the baseball you can at least move runners over or get an error out of the defense.
PS.....Roy Halladay is sick!Brian0 -
The Yanks had a few good swings today. We need some luck from the baseball gods. Help those balls find holes and not near a fielder.I miss igotid880

very short game. Especially for the Yankees. He's gotten some defensive help. Plus the fact the Yankees haven't been hitting. That's a bad combination if you're the Yankees. Another wasted quality start from their starter.I miss igotid880 -

woohoo, Halliday was unhittable tonight, had no-hit stuff, that breaking ball was dancing
glad Jeter had a hit in the 9th or I would be wondering what could of been a no-hitter if Wells or Rios was in centre and got a regular jump on # 13's hit1998 ~ Barrie
