As far as this year 2008 HELL YEAH! Don't tell me you don't think they should be playing better than they're? Regardless of their high salaries.

duuring my downtime at Mansfield ( in between 1 & 2 ) me and my buddy ( he is a HUGE Red Sawx Fan living here in NYC ) drove over to Boston to go on the Fenway Park Tour.

I know this rivalry is as bitter as any rivalry can be, but you have to give nods to the rich history involved here, and to the old ballpark on Yawkey Way.

We sat in the oldest seats in baseball- old wooden relics that are only 15 inches across. They went into the big fire there, and explained that the only remaining part of the old park- besides these old chairs- was the old brick facade outside, on the little stretch - just across from the team store .

We were able to sit on the Budweiser deck which i was stunned to find out that they have lotteries for 4 ticket tables with waiter service in this area.
    Niiiice !

They took us into the press area- with the big glass windows , looking out onto the entire ballfield. The only non- visible area is up the left ( 3rd ) baseline- to which they have an open window and a television monitor for the official scorer.

The dimensions of this ballpark are extremely odd- a very small infield , which is why they have such high batting avergaes whilst at home .

The tour is fantastic and I would highly recommend it to any baseball fan - regardless of your allegaince to anyy other team- even the biggest rival of the home team .

You will find it fun and interesting to see how - even on their ballpark tour- they cannoty go too long without mentions of the NYYs.

Of course the tour culminated in sitting atop the green monster ( if youre from boston its the " Monstahhh " -- no "R" sound ) . We sat at the lowest row and right at the Left field foul pole. It was cool to sit exactly where we see all the time on TV, and where Bucky Fucking Dent clobbered that homer back in the day !

I recommend this tour to anyone .
    It was awesome .

well said, the only game I ever went to up at Fenway was one of the best pitching performances I ever saw. It was a 1999 game against Atlanta and Pedro Martinez struck out 16.

i think a few guys would be attractive to teams who actually are in contention.. damon (as long is this injury isn't serious), mussina, maybe even giambi since it's only half a year's salary now.

i can't see this team doing anything more than sneaking into the playoffs, followed by yet other embarrassing first round exit. that's the best case scenario. i say, why wait.. let's start tearing it apart now. the formula of "bring in every available big name" hasn't worked in 7 years. time to try building an actual "team", instead of a group of big names that assure you nothing else but a lot of tickets sold.

but then again, maybe that's all the current management cares about. they run the yanks more like a business than a baseball team, and the bottom line for yankee co. has been pretty solid.

agreed. well said. Time for the Billy Beane "buy low, sell high" method. Just think, 9 1/2 more years of Arod.....

    What's wrong with 35+ HR 100+ RBI and a .300 AVG for 10 years?

aside from 2007, most of those homers come in garbage time. He was super clutch only in his contract year. Maybe he'll hit when it counts in 2017. Put him up with the bases loaded, down 3, and you get what you got last night: The Whiff. And there's the seemingly non-stop embarrassment he brings to the club. And the 1 playoff series win in 4 years. No doubt one of the best players in the game. yet they managed to get by without him. 6 WS trips in the 8 years prior to his arrival.

They didn't win before he came in either. And I don't really believe in garbage HR's. You're gonna need all the runs to win a game. And I don't think he's telling the Post or Daily News to print those stories. I don't think they're embarrassed though. The Yankees have had players with off the field problems.

bathy-I love your description of the Red sox tour! I have always wanted to go up there to see Fenway for that historical aspect. I will add it to the to-do list! Do you make a reservation for it? Do you go on their website to do it?

of course obviously while PJ was there, The Sox were out of town - down in Tampa I believe .

they do it on the hour.
    it takes about an hour.
you can walk up to the counter in the official team store across the street from Fenway.
    Its the souvenier store-

    19 yawkey way.

all NYY yankee fans should be forewarned :

There is alot of Red in this store ! !

youll have fun its a blast.
wear your yankee hat and you instantly become part of the tour .

now the ump is giving the low strikes to Wakefield.
    I miss igotid88
  • and the high. And the outside. That "strike" 3 pitch to Molina came down with snow on it. Am I reading things right? Mussina is not an All Star, not even up for the fianl all star vote, and yet a catcher who's hitting 17 points above the Mendoza line made the team? This game is supposed to mean something, and they took the worst offensive, and the worst throwing catcher in all of baseball
