If it were later in the year and we had the expanded roster then you could maybe argue it just because of his numbers against lefties. I'm just really biased against guys who strike out that much. Nothing good happens when you strikeout. By making some kind of contact with the baseball you can at least move runners over or get an error out of the defense.
PS.....Roy Halladay is sick!
I agree with you, but i don't think it would hurt to add him as a bench guy. He'd cost the pro-rated portion of the league minimum, or about $120,000 or so for the rest of the year. He'd be a better pinch hitter than anyone they have now, and he's actually decent in the field. It's very similar to when they picked up olerud a few years back0 -

A-Rod gets some Madonna-themed taunting from Toronto Jays' fans.
Usually when there are chants of "Ma-don-na!" in a stadium, it's the sound of Madge's legions of girl and boy toys paying tribute. But at the Jays vs. Yankees game in Toronto on Friday, July 11, that name was the sound of jeering against third baseman Alex Rodriguez.
The recently anointed tabloid target, whose wife Cynthia is filing for divorce amidst accusations that A-Rod had an "affair of the heart" with Madonna, was hazed with fans wielding photos of Madonna, and names like "cheater."
When A-Rod was up to bat, the potent zingers included "you've only got four minutes... to lose!" and, in reference to A-Rod's sports rival, one guy shouted an incredulous, "Jose Conseco f--ked Madonna! Jose Conseco!"

Humberto Sanchez might be trade bait. Rockies had scouts watching him pitch in a minor league game and Brian Fuentes of the Rockies may be on the block. This one kinda makes sense, but it's a gamble either way with Sanchez at this point.
Also saw where Victor Zambrano is trying out for the Yanks. This is the guy that the Mets were so eager to acquire that they traded away Scott Kazmir. I will never understand that move.
RIP Bobby MurcerBrian0 -
Out of curiosity....
What was the Yanks record at the AS break last year?
5 games over 6 back this year certainly ain't good at all. But it's mind blowing that Jeter, Arod, Damon, Hughes, Kennedy, Matsui, Posada, Bruney, Betemit,Wang, have all been hurt and on the DL. I gotta give credit to Girardi for working with what we've got and still keeping afloat. Girardi is the man.PJ - 36

They were airing tributes during the game yesterday, and they replayed a nice tribute show on YES last night with footage from one of the last interviews Bobby gave. I teared up reading the article about him in the Post yesterday. May he RIP.
And that stuff about the Toronto fans ripping on A-Rod? Whoa! Well they don't like him to begin with, with that "Hah" thing he did last year. So they were seizing any opportunity to dog him out.
Did you all see in the Post. through his real estate company (I didn't even know he had one!) a condo for that stripper he was messing around with, got purchased in Tampa last year. I think his brother in law signed for it, actually.

I agree...they just can't hit. To their credit, they haven't had their "full" projected lineup for basically the whole season...A-Rod, Posada, and now Matsui and Damon (who both are batting well over .300) spent time on the DL. But you're just not going to get to the playoffs with Rasner and Ponson in your rotation. Wang's injury was a HUGE blow to the team (granted, his pitching was kind of "off", but he usually only gives up 3 runs a game)...they have to make some kind of move to better the rotation...Chamberlain isn't doing bad, but their insistence on only pitching him for about 5 innings a game is getting annoying. Let him stay out there and fight his way out for once. Eric Milton will probably end up pitching a couple of games, but I can't see him making much of an impact. I'm hoping they somehow acquire A.J. Burnett, but the chances of the Jays trading him to a division rival aren't very good. I've said it then and I'll say it now: not getting Johan Santana was a stupid move. Hughes is injured (and wasn't pitching well before the fact) and Kennedy was getting destroyed by opposing batters. And, good God, please don't put LaTroy Hawkins in relief anymore...it seems every time they put him in, he gives up runs.
Now that I stopped my rambling, I can't wait for the HR Derby tonight and the All-Star game tomorrow...I tried to get tickets, but they were MUY expensive...I just wish A-Rod was participating in the HR Derby...would be nice to see him getting cheered on in such an event, especially with all the turmoil surrounding him at the moment.

.
I heard today that the Yankees have started their projected lineup, 1-9, just twice this season. I can't swear for the accuracy of that, as I heard it on talk radio.
As for latroy hawkins, couldn't agree more. Enough. I'm sure they're hoping to get a good 2-3 week run of him, so he'll have some value to someone, but I don't see it happening. Just cut bait already0 -

Wow he is a piece of work.
Don't worry, just 1525 more games until the ARod error is over. And he deserevs everything he got in Toronto, and has only himself to blame0 -
Matsui has been taking batting practice. Still no running, though, which is the big thing. Damon hasn't started hitting yet. Let's hope they can both be back within the next couple of weeks. The Gardner/Christian combo hasn't been doing anything and Melky has struggled. If they could just get the lineup they want out there. The pitching has actually been ok. They just aren't getting on base and when they do they are terrible with runners in scoring position.
All that said, they are still in better shape then they were last year going into the break.Brian0 -
Give Gardner time. He's already stolen 5 bases. Wait until he actually starts to hit/walk. He also seems to see 10 pitches every at bat.0
