I am the worse at remembering lyrics, and its kinda sad that the first lines that actually stuck in my head were about some dumb ass crustacean in an underwater nation...
lmao!

like riot act better, avacado is my least favorite pj album but still has some great songs.
they also take on a new life live in concert, almost like certain songs were only meant to be played live, kinda hard to explain!
I have a love/hate relationship with avocado. I find myself skipping when I listen to the CD in the car. But stick inside job on then put the rest of the album on shuffle, it gives it a whole new complexion. I think most of it's problems come in the ordering of the songs.
I cant believe people are bitching bout the packaging too, I think its genius; the avocado with the stone on the front, it empty on the back with the CD being the stone, its so perfect, the music is the centre, the core. PJ are our centres!

I've been a member of the fan club/message board for a long-ass time. A trend that I have seen around here is to shit on the most recent album and declare the previous far superior. When Binaural came out people were crapping all over it---everyone was longing for Yield. Then Riot Act came out, people were deciding what to make of it, then after some time passed Riot Act became the trendy album to shit on---Binaural was now a "masterpiece". Now people shit on Avocado and declare Riot Act superior. Does anyone else see this the way I'm describing. I think what we have is the old cliche---"the grass is always greener on the other side". Bottom line: they're all good; they're all different.
PS---when I use a word such as everyone, of course there is a degree of exageration. So if you feel your blood pressure going up while reading my post, just relax---everything will be ok.
I've noticed the same thing! I'm kind've surprised each time I read a post where someone says they love Binaural or Riot Act. Not because they are horrible albums, but because I remember when they came out it seemed like they were almost universally bashed.
2003: San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, Seattle; 2005: Monterrey; 2006: Chicago 1 & 2, Grand Rapids, Cleveland, Detroit; 2008: West Palm Beach, Tampa; 2009: Austin, LA 3 & 4, San Diego; 2010: Kansas City, St. Louis, Columbus, Indianapolis; 2011: PJ20 1 & 2; 2012: Missoula; 2013: Dallas, Oklahoma City, Seattle; 2014: Tulsa; 2016: Columbia, New York City 1 & 2; 2018: London, Seattle 1 & 2; 2021: Ohana; 2022: Oklahoma City

i like it. good rocking album. between world wide suicide and severed hand you've got a solid album. parachutes is a nice little diddy. comatose completes me.

Backspacer is ten times better than Avocado and I think most sane human beings would agree.

for sure half deaf.
still, song for song, avacado is the better record...imo of course.
you can rank them different, but know you are wrong. :P
Sounds dated already and I have no idea why Jeff even attempted to play on this album.. You can't hear him ever.
The elephant in the room for the past ten years is why did someone cut off Jeff's amp?
Maybe the future O'Brien remixes / remasters will fix this problem. Jeff's best bass: No Code. Especially on Hail, Hail. Turn the low end up on your system and you'll hear what I'm talkin' about.

I listened to it a lot when it came out, but I rarely ever listen to it anymore. I don't think it's a bad album, and it's certainly better than Riot Act. I just never listen to it. Once in a while I'll play something like Parachutes or Life Wasted, but that's about it. I never understood why it was a self-titled album either? It definitely had a war theme going throughout the record and should have been given a proper title. Just my 2 cents.

this album dated 'somewhat' poorly for me, i remember listening to avocado on way to nola for jazzfest-10 and thought wtf happened? production was brick i.e. compressed and fewer of the songs stood out, sans marker in the sand, come back, inside job.
i wrestled w/that impression vs initial which were more positive and fk yes PJ has returned to rocking.
this is not a bad thing, albums that evolve-devolve can be most intriguing over course of time, see stones mid-70's albums...

It's definitely in my top 3 as well, possibly favorite even. I just really love a lot of the songs on there and it was the CD that came out shortly after I finally started to dive into this wonderful obsession. :ugeek: I always loved the band and their songs but the last 5 years or so have really ramped up my passion for them.
Comments
Ditto.
But it needs to be remastered...like.......now!
And I’m no audio expert, I just know it can sound way better.
lmao!

I was kidding throughout this post. I hate "ranking" or pretending that music isn't a different experience for everyone.
I think backspacer was fresh and not forced. I saw the self titled record and Riot Act as forced and predictable.
it's all good...i was kidding as well.
enjoy
i agree....i hadn't listened to it much in the last year or so. just listened to the vinyl & WOW.

it wasn't great
it just hangs around in the middle
i liked it a lot more when it was first released because it sounded completely different than riot act
Don't you have a dirty frank thread to bump? Now go!
this seems to sum it up for many (most?) people.
wws was ok, marker was ok, inside job is great.
but man, theres certainly some filler in there. i still havent got over that unemployable shania twain cover.
My rankings go something like this
Ten-Binaural
Riot Act
S/T
Backspacer
