honest question for everyone - why does charlie manuel get a free pass from the media and fans in this town compared to the other coaches? yes we won a title (but one less than terry francona) but has now lost 2 years in a row as a prohibitive favorite and i believe he helped blow the 2009 world series againt the yanks with his decision to use Pedro. Admittedly i am not a fan of Charlie's but i don't understand the lack of criticism for him now compared to that happens around here with everyone else. Thoughts?

you know my opinion on philly fans.

manuel has always been and will always be a dumb ass.

I loved amaro's comments today about the lineup changing their approach. isn't manuel supposed to be a hitting guru??

give ryne sandberg the manager job before another team hires him away

What's the Mark Twain quote about continuing to do the same thing and expecting a different result? It's insane.

yeah me too. 3 with a 4th option. of course he's gonna say 5 years though. he should try to get all he can get obviously. if san fran gives him five, then so be it.

if he comes back, i wonder if we see him slide over to third in a couple years after polanco is out of here and young galvis is ready.

today's Inquirer mentioned that Chase Utley had the 2nd lowest percentage of line drives of any player in the majors this year with 300 or more at-bats. not good. can't believe our sabermaticians here haven't brought that one up. i guess when it's the golden boy no one mentions it.

Yeah, that's very true. First time I ate there, we got a bunch of shit to pick at, it came out and we realized almost everything we got was fried. Needless to say, I felt like shit for the next 24 hours. I saw that episode a while back.

Vernon Wells. i was kind of shocked at the stat to be honest. i knew he has lost some power but kind of a scary stat. and he is getting $20 million next year

Ahh, yeah, that makes sense. Was hoping it wasn't going to be a certain Yankee. Yeah, that's definitely not good. That's what made him one of the best players in the game for a couple years. Everything he hit was a bullet.

Edit: And hey, Vernon Well is getting $21 mil for the next 3 years.

it was bad, but not sure it was that bad...

    but i did look...

by my count, 23 up and 46 post all star break, including a 7-22 record in august.

take the post all star win %, it extrapolates to a 54-108 full season pace

In the modern history of Major League Baseball that began in 1900, no team has fared worse than these Pirates after holding first place through 100 games. Actually, no team has even come close. The Pirates' 16-40 record down the stretch makes for a .286 winning percentage. Next-worst was the 1977 Chicago Cubs, who went 60-40 to lead their division through 100 games, then went 21-41 for a .339 winning percentage.
