there are only 16 teams in the NL. being in the top 10 isn't anything special. they're still in the bottom half of most categories.

the thing about this lineup is that it's a bunch of older players. a lot of them are still big names, but not the players they used to be. they could come around...hopefully they will. I'm just preparing myself for a repeat of last year's playoff frustration because the offense isn't as good as it was then.

the thing that bothers me more than anything is the approach this team takes. garza was all over the place tonight and he still went 7 innings. utley and chooch are the only ones that know how to work a count. they really miss werth in that respect.

Yeah but bottom-half of the NL isn't the end of the world when you've got pitching like this. You're right that the hitting has to come around for them to truly contend in October. But i just can't fathom all this talent is gonna fizzle out like this. And you're right that they're older. But as a unit, there's no reason that this group isn't giving SOME run support. I'll worry if they're still hitting like this a month from now.

dude, they didn't hit at all in the playoffs last year. their lineup is worse this year. I don't know why you would expect things to magically change in sept/oct.

not trying to be negative...I'd love reason to be more optimistic. I just have zero confidence in this lineup to win it all

I don't expect anything. I'm just hoping. But I don't have zero confidence like you do. Or maybe I'm just delusional enough to think they can pitch their way to a title.

I'm holding out hope that something good happens by the trade deadline.

It's also good that if the standing stay the same that they won't have to face SF or ATL in round 1. Hello Pittsburgh!!

Wheeler called Howard's AB a "productive at-bat" cause Utley moved up a base.

That was clutch. Seems like this guy Marshall's ERA is rather misleading.

I don't know if we brought it up in here, but with all the talk about trading Brown for Pence straight up - do you think an Upton(BJ) for Brown straight up would work for Tampa? I'd do that.

even though I'd be bitching about upton by labor day, I'd do that trade as well.

I think a big market like philly would be good for upton. he would have no choice but to play hard all the time or get eaten alive

Yeah, that's the same way I feel, but at the same time he's the toolsy-type guy like Brown, but already proven. And young.

I'm pretty sure it was him or Crawford who couldn't take the crowd on him during the World Series.

And another thing - was Singleton 17 when he graduated high school? Just looking up his numbers, and he started rookie ball at the age of 17? Damn.

No, I know about that. Love knowing I was apart of that. I'm talking about before the games - who ever it was was in the outfield warming up and freaked out on the crowd because of the shit they were saying to them. Someone on the radio was saying it was an outfielder.

I figured it was something Gaga-related, just didn't know what in particular you were talking about. But, yeah, sometimes my attraction to girls have nothing to do with looks, Jeags. Well, it does, but in a weird way.

Cannot fucking wait. I'm making sure I tell Blake that they don't jerk me around and I definitely get tickets to each round this time. All I know is I hope they, at the least, get one more bat to help this putrid offense somehow sure up itself. Outside of that, this maniac right here will be fueled by alcohol and a hoarse throat by the end of October. Hopefully.
