I was glancing at the paper on the floor the other day, looking at a picture of what I thought was Ryan Howard and Chase Utley. Upon closer review, I realized it wasn't Chase, it was Brett Myers. I couldn't believe it. He has really slimmed down. As much as I think Myers is a jerk, you got to love the effort he's made in the off season.

I know, but he claims it has nothing to do with that. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, but I'm easy that way.

I don't. He knows he's making 12.5 mil this year and he knows if he's going to be making that next year, he's going to have to win at least 15 games for the first time in his career.

quite honestly, I don't care what his motives are, if he's going to win 15+ games for us, it works for me
Our World Champion 2008 Phillies or the 1993 NL Championship team that we all know and love.
Go position by position
2008 Phils are much better
We have studs at a lot more positions then the '93 team
'93 team caught lightning in a bottle..this team now is built for years
I'm sorry I wasn't more specific. I meant who would win in a drinking contest? No shots. All beer. Team with the most conscious players at the end wins.

It's actually pretty close:
C: '93 far and away as Daulton and Pratt combined for 29 homers and 118 rbis
1B: I love Kruk but Howard had better counting numbers even though Kruk had a .430 OBP that year and a better OPS than Howard
2B: Utley in a no brainer
3B: You have to take '93 and Hollins - much better offensively (40 points higher in OPS more than makes up for Feliz's better glove)
SS: Rollins in a no brainer
LF: Slight edge to '93 ('08 Burrell - .250 .367 .507 with 33 homers and 86 rbis) ('93 platoon of Inky and Milt Thompson combined for .269 .330 .443 with 28 homers and 133 rbis) Normally I would go with OPS but the 50 rbi difference in my opinion gives them the slight edge - Burrell started 154 games - Milt and Inky started 158 in LF and Inky started 6 in RF so the extra 10 games started is not a big factor in the rbi discrepancy
CF: Victorino had a good year, but you have to take Nails
RF: Slight edge of Werth over the platoon of Chamberlain and Eisenreich
Bench: you take '93 - the bench of Duncan, Inky or Milt, Jordan, Pratt and either Eisey or Chamberlain is much better than last year's bench
SP1: Hamels over Schilling
SP2: Greene over Myers (Greene was 16-4 that season - Myers was terrible half the year)
SP3: Mulholland slightly over Moyer - Moyer had the better won loss record, but Mulholland started the All Star Game and had a 3.25 era that season
SP4: Blanton over Danny Jackson - Jackson won some big games, but Blanton never lost a game in Phillies uniform last season
Bullpen - Huge edge '08
Because of the huge difference in bullpens and relatively equal starting lineups and starting pitching, I would give 08 the slight advantage and they would probably win in a 7 game series.

im not so sure i would take hamels over schill. i guess i would take cole, but its pretty close. cole had a much better era, but schill won two more games and had 3 less losses. his postseason was fantastic as well.
and i would take dj over blanton. jackson's era was almost a full point lower than blanton's.
Did anyone here get tickets to opening night or the game where I - er, they - get their rings? If any of you guys know of anyway I can get my hands on tickets to both of these games, more importantly opening night, then let me know. I haven't missed opening day since I was 12 and I'm not starting now. Oh, and about the tickets, READ: Not looking for Stub Hub prices. Any help would be much appreciated - PM if so. Thanks a lot.

First, opening day tickets are not for sale to the public, you have to register for a lottery for a chance at opening day tickets unless you have a full season package. Secondly, the ring ceremony is NOT on opening night, it is the Wednesday after as a business persons special. Those tickets go on sale tomorrow at 7:30AM... good luck.

First, I know this. I'm a Sunday plan guy, guy. I know they're on different days. Hence the question of one game or the other. This site has a presale for single games but the ring game is sold out via presale...
Just tapping my resources to see if I could get lucky. Unfortunately I was not lucky enough to get picked in the drawing....Season's not even started and it's already looking expensive....trip to Clearwater, opening night via ebay or Stubhub, New Yankee Stadium trip, Bailout Field trip, Nats/Phils game in DC followed by the Preakness....Holy fuck this is going to be more expensive for me by the end of May than it was for me during the playoffs. I guess it's time to start selling drugs or put it all on black.

I missed the OR in there :? but I wouldn't worry about presale, I'm sure there weren't more than a handful of tickets available since the number of season ticket sales are higher, plus the Phils want to have a certain amount available for public sale. It will be a hard ticket to get. Also, the opening day drawing isn't until next week... so don't go nuts on StubHub just yet.

I thought so. A buddy of mine who has the Sunday plan said the drawing for opening night already happened. I thought it wasn't till the first week of March. Here's to hoping.....
The drawing is either the 26th or 27th next week.....
Now he's saying that's for the general public drawing and not the partial season ticket holder drawing which he said already happened....the rage is rising....riiiiising.

Done and done. I am bound to fail and be let down I tell ya! RISING!!
Where do you guys think would be better seats.....Sec 243 row 5, or Sec 144 Row 17??? Last year for the playoffs I was in Sec 244 in the first row and thought the seats were great. Just trying to decide if it wold be better to be lower even though they are farther back......Or..what about Sec. 329 Row 1???
Personally I love the lower outfield seats... but between lower and 17 rows back and upper and 5 rows its a toss up since you'd probably be in basically the same sight line. Might have a better angle from the 200 section. The only time I like the 300 level seats are directly behind home plate.
