Calm down with this always business. It's been two years..one barely decent and one great year, with a little help from our inept Metropolitans..it'll be at least another 20 years before you guys celebrate anything remotely resembling a successful season ;) ..

As long as the Mutts are in our divsion we will have success

Theres no way to say it will be another 20 years...I realize not winning since '86 makes you a little bitter

    :P

Yeah well as a kid I became a fan in 1988. Ever since then been a die hard Met and Jet fan with no championships to speak of between the two..just pain for over 20 years and counting..so yeah, you could say I'm a bit fucking bitter ;) ..

doubt he posts here, but the tv cameras are picking up a guy in the background wearing an avocado t-shirt at the game today.
I saw that too watching the replay last night and wondered the same thing.....

i told ya we shouldn't have given moyer 2 years.

he better get his shit turned around in the next 3 starts or else i predict an early (or i guess late) retirement.

good that we won last night...but that wasn't a good win. lidge blows another and the pen is taxed a day before a double header. C'MON WORLD CHAMPS! GET IT TOGETHER!

hear's to hoping the padres continue to play like poop so peavey becomes available a month from now. i heard due to the economy players will be available way before the trade deadlline if their team is way out of it. hamels and peavey at the top of the rotation....you can live with those numbers. we got the prospects to make it happen.

Ok Phillies fans can you clear this up for me. I've only been to Citizen's Bank Park twice so I could be wrong about this BUT...one of my students is arguing that the fans going to a game at the Bank accurately reflects the demographics of the city. Is it true that roughly 55% of the attendees at a Phillies game are ethnic/racial minorities? I just don't believe that it is, but maybe I'm wrong.

I go to a lot of games there and even on Asian and Latino Culture night, the stands are at least 80-85% white and I'm being generous with those numbers. It's probably higher than that.
Thanks SOLAT I was fairly sure the kid was just being lazy. It's so freaking crazy that he is going to work in the field of sport management trying to get new customers to attend/buy stuff from a sport franchise and he doesn't see minorities as an untapped market. As you and I have discussed many times, the Red Sox (perhaps very necessarily given their history) are at the forefront of dealing with this, but how can this change elsewhere if I'm graduating students who don't see it?!?!? Oh well, good luck to your teams this year...sorry to jump this thread.

After last night's Mets debacle, this seems like it would be more appropriate in the Mets' forum.

We need to distance ourselves from the Mets as quickly as possible...I have this starnge feeling we're about to go on a 15-5 in our next 20 tear

I'm glad Charlie switched up the rotation with Moyer/Hamels. Tonight and Sunday should put some pressure on Cole. Cueto for the Reds, and then Sunday against Santana for the Yanks. Hamels seems like he's found his stride a bit, we'll know for show this week.

I hope you're right about a 15-5 tear. This time last year, we were 1.5 games out, and 2 years ago, we were 7.5 games out. It'd be nice to have a lead in the division in June for once. :D

Big series this weekend. I wish I could make the trip up to NY. Anyone going up? Something tells me that these are going to be highly offensive games with the exception of Sunday.

I'll be down at the game Monday for $1 dogs! Diamond Club style! :D

i guess they will let lidge go until romero gets back. hopefully he can come out of whatever the hell is bothering him until then. if not, make up an injury...let him refocus.

big game tonight. moyer has OWNED the marlins in his career. if we can't get 6 solid innings out of him tonight, he's in serious trouble.

Myers most likely done for the year ?

I don't think we can have Blanton as the number 2 starter

We need to make a trade for a pitcher

The problem is everyone knows the the Phils need pitching right now and will hold the Phils over a barrel in return.

It's kind of scary that it's just about June and after Hamels you have

    Blanton with a 6.14 ERA
    Moyer with a 7.42 ERA
Happ who is unproven with 6 career starts in the majors
and ???? at number 5 right now

Don't think it will be Park.. Charlie doesn't want him back in the rotation... so looks like Kendrick or Carpenter and then someone moves down to the minors when Romero returns next week.

Other than reading it Buster Olney's column today, no. Though I know the Sox are openly shopping Penny because they have too many starters and a couple of the teams rumored to be going after him are the Phils and Mets. I hadn't heard of any specific details though. The two needs the Red Sox have are SS and a catcher of the future.

He's not someone I'd feel comfortable with right now as a number 2 starter, but could be a 3 or a 4 on just about any team. His last two starts he's looked a lot better and his movement has come back on pitches. Against the Twins he had 7 K's and no walks earlier this week and was cruisng until a couple of bloop hits. He's had two bad starts gave up 8 ER in 3 IP and 7 runs (4 ER) in 6. His era would be around 4.50 without those in the AL. So that should translate to a little bit lower in the NL.

He has 5 quality starts out of 9 and he has kept the Sox in every game he's pitched. (Sox are 6-3 in his starts and won the game he gave up 8 runs in.)

I know he's facing Peavy tonight, but I have to say I'm excited for the start of the Bastardo era in Philly.

I hope he makes it big because it would be fun going down to the ballpark one day in the future and seeing the stands full of Bastardo jerseys.
