Signing Hamels to a 3-year deal was huge. Remember how unhappy Hamels was last year when he only got $500K? Locking him up for 3 years is a great deal by Amaro.

oh and watched again on Comcast the perfect season Phils dvd and still gives me chills to see the final out and pictures from the parade.

It's a good move from the Phillies point of view as they keep him for under market value through his arbitration years. But he was under team control those three years and wasn't going anywhere. I'll be more impressed that in 2 seasons he can somehow sign him to a long term deal before he hits the free agency market. But I doubt the Phils will offer him C.C. money in three years.

I don't like the signing of Ibanez. You get an older LF with range problems who is an additional lefty bat in lefty heavy lineup. Other than that he hasn't done much.
He hasn't done much? Well, whatever....I'm tellin ya, Ibanez is a better player than Burrell and LF in The Bank isn't that hard to play.
What has he done besides trading for a backup C, signing Chan Ho Park and Ibanez, and negotiating with arbitration eligible players. Trading Golson for Newberry isn't a big move and everyone knew they were going to resign Moyer.

He's not done any signature move yet except the Ibanez signing and I think he's a good player but not the best fit for the lineup. You're going into a season where your best righty bat is Werth and that's a little risky if you ask me. And now you have lineup issues. Do you bat lefties 3,4,5 or do you stick Werth there at 5 as protection for Howard which case Howard will see very little to hit.
i think this offseason has been a huge success so far. Besides pat the bat u have keep in tact the core of a world championship team. They made there Ace really happy which to me will make Cole even better. I like there staff again and the bullpen is the same besides JC being gone for 50 games. And when either haap kendrick park or caarasco wins the 5th spot all but carrasco would go into the pen which will help out alot with JC gone. So i think this team is primed for another magicial run again barring key injuries.

There is no way in hell I would put Carrassco in the pen to start the season. As a late season call up maybe but why stunt his development by having him sit around in the bullpen instead of pitching every 5 days in the minors..

Well since Howard will be a FA after the 3 years, I'm not going to try to read into Monty's comments. He's stating fact: Howard will be a Phillie for the next 3 years guaranteed... unless the Phils trade him.

We'll see what his numbers are over the next 3 years... as stated many times in these threads, his numbers have slipped (BA, OBS) while strikeouts have gone up.

I find that interesting since Howard is a free agent in 2 seasons. He has this year and then next year is his last year of arbitration and then he becomes a free agent after the 2010 season. To keep him for three years, the Phils would probably have to make a 3 year 54-60 mil dollar deal with him.

great to see the big guy signed. They've even mentioned Ryan has been in in Florida working on defense. Hopefully practicing that throw from 1st to 2nd. Amaro did a great job getting everyone signed before camp.
