For Atlanta outfielder Jeff Francoeur, the search for a more disciplined approach is elusive and the source of occasional torment. Francoeur began this season with loose goals of 80 strikeouts and 50 to 60 walks. But he's always been an aggressive player, and he's wary of becoming too passive in the quest for a higher OBP.

"If on-base percentage is so important, then why don't they put it up on the scoreboard?" Francoeur says.

have watched this like 20 times and still laughing. seriously i think the guy that did this video had to read this thread. so classic.

Haha, same here. I can't stop watching it and it does not get any less funny.

To me, what brings it full circle is the Joey Votto comment. That's what makes me think it comes from this thread.

I hear you, I mean there are a bunch of other 1st baseman they could have mentioned. It's great that it was Votto.

Good thing WAR has never been brought up in here. A couple peoples heads might have exploded. haha.

Oh boy, I would have liked to have been a part of that.

I fucking love the "he agreed that I agreed with him"

The whole thing is just outstanding.

i saw it on comcast last night and it pissed me off. he has sucked this year and is going to complain about the fans? if i am sitting out in 100 degree heat and you suck and have sucked for 82 games i have every right to let you know it. i actually think the fans have been too lenient on this team this year. i could accept 3rd place with the injuries and all if they were at least playing up to their capabilities - but you can say not one of the so-called core players has come close to their capabilities this year.

Exactly..when a team has injuries guys need to step up and no bat .250

Stop worrying about the fans and start playing better..this whole team has been dead for months and he's gonna come out and bash the fans?!?!?!

He got all bent when the media kept asking about the slump earlier in the year...like you said he's gotten off easy so far

And Werth is on the block.

Edit: Olney says they are looking for a proven starter. Assume this would have to be a 3 way trade because whoever gives up a starter is going to want prospects.

I really don't think they trade Werth. It would be a sign to most fans of them giving up on the year. Contending teams usually don't jettison parts. It also would make the team extremely left handed in the short term when Utley gets back. Your 3-6 hitters would all be lefties.

I agree. but they did trade lee

    here's what olney is saying...

UPDATE: The Phillies are getting more aggressive in their attempts to deal Werth, tweets ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney.

If the Phillies trade Werth and promote their top prospect to take over in right field, we think they would have to be very confident that the net result would be a better pitching staff -- using the assets and payroll flexibility acquired in a Werth deal to acquire starting pitching and perhaps a reliever, too.

    --
We talked Tuesday of how the results of the Phils' current seven-game homestand could prompt the defending National League champions to possibly consider a deal for right fielder Jayson Werth.

A FoxSports.com report said the Phillies might be open to a deal since the 31-year-old Werth is a free agent at the end of the season, and the team has made little progress in their efforts to extend his contract.

General manager Ruben Amaro, Jr. said Tuesday that the Phillies' top priority is starting pitching and Werth would be a highly valuable bargaining chip. Matt Gelb of the Philly Inquirer writes that the recent promotion of top outfield prospect Domonic Brown to Triple-A could be a sign that Amaro considers him almost ready to step in for Werth in case a deal is done. "Could he help us? Possibly," Amaro said. "But it's only been 12 games. He's making a good impression."

And that was a horrible mistake and they did it the same day as they traded for Doc so that the fans and players couldn't get used to the idea of having them both on the team at the same time.

I remember reading something J Roll said when he was told about the Doc and Lee moves and he was like the Yankees would never have made a move like that in trading Lee away and they would have kept both.

worst part about that trade was that it was done on same day. the phils minimized the return they got by acting so quickly. ahhh, I need to stop...I get so pissed when I think about this. I can't let it go

Yeah, I remember reading that as well.

Also, I really think people put too much into this lefty-heavy thing. I understand there's such thing as a "lefty specialist" and not a "righty specialist", but Utley never had a huge problem hitting lefties, granted we all know about Howard, I think Francisco will end up platooning with Ibanez if this deal were to go down and Raul doesn't make any vast improvements soon, I think Shane would go to the 5 spot(I know, crazy thinking), and Brown would hit 7th. I don't think they would just plop Brown right into the heart of the lineup. Plus, I'm a huge proponent of a lefty heavy lineup over a righty heavy lineup any day of the week. And, like someone said, I can't see this deal happening if they're still in contention. It just doesn't make any sense to me. To be in the playoff hunt, and you're going to get rid of an established World Series player for a guy that hasn't even played in the majors, and you expect him to contribute? I don't know about all that. And, if this deal were to go down, I will have conceded that this season is over and that any chance of making the playoffs would be the icing on the cake to me. I no longer would even fathom being a favorite in the NL.

If a Werth deal goes down, it better be a 3 way trade that brings a frontline starter and a solid 2nd/3rd baseman. The bench is terrible as it is, and I'm not putting any stock into Utley being back anytime soon. If trading Werth would reciprocate a Tejada and Haren, or something along those lines, then that is fine by me.

The thing is, they need to find a team in contention that would take Werth. Boston is a team that needs him but I don't see them moving enough to net Haren. Haren under contract for the next few years is much mroe valuable than half a year of Werth.

For sure, but I don't know who else there is out there that the Phillies would want. I mean if they trade Werth, I would imagine they are hoping to get a pitcher for more than the rest of this year.

A lil' bit. But, dreading going with a constant lineup of Dobbs/Valdez/Castro until Polanco AND Utley come back pisses me off more.

am I the only phils fan that is dreading the trade deadline this year?

A lil' bit. But, dreading going with a constant lineup of Dobbs/Valdez/Castro until Polanco AND Utley come back pisses me off more.

agreed. the latter half of our order is a black hole at this point.....and you forgot to mention dane sardenho

Yeah, I don't mind him as much because he shouldn't even be here. Schneider back behind the plate tonight I think, and Ruiz should be back soon....hopefully.

River Ave Blues, probably the best Yankee blog out there wrote up a crazy idea today. It really makes no sense but was a thought. The guy who wrote it writes for FanGraphs and MLBTR so he knows what he is talking about.

    Werth for Javy.

Solves the Amaro "want" of a 2 or 3 starter and the Yanks "kind of need" of another bat. It makes absolutly no sense for the Yankees though since they need their starting pitching depth, especially with the Hughes innings limit and have no need for another corner outfielder. Both project to be Type A FA's. This would never happen but was a fun read.
