Those are some bold predictions considering Myers has never won 15 games in a season and Moyer has only done it 4 times in 22 years (could be 5 this year) and will be 46 next year.

And projecting Happ to win 13 is pretty crazy as well.

Was it crazy to have Kendrick win 11 last year? Happ is a better pitcher

Yes, it is, dude. I'll take the guy who's on the field every day and get a middle of the market pitcher instead if I have to.

And secondly, you haven't seen nearly enough of Happ to think he's gonna be all that great. Honestly, I'm not impressed with him at all.

No, but it's crazy to predict something like that. I mean Happ is 18-19 for his career in the minors.

I really think they could make a run for Holliday if they let Pat walk and make a couple other moves. Is he a free agent next year? What's his deal?

    yeah but check this out

    CC- 20 game winner
    Hamels- potential 20 game winner
    Myers- 15 game winner
    Moyer- 15 game winner
    Happ- potential 13 game winner

    Thats 83 games!

I forgot the biggest flaw in your argument.

The Phils are not going to outbid the Yanks for CC who have over 90 mil coming off their payroll and are moving to a new stadium off a possible 4th place season.

Holliday is making 13.5 for the 2009 season and then will be a free agent.

I see the Rockies either moving him at the winter meetings or at the trade deadline next year.

Blast. I hope we can work something out. As far Cashman, nope. We're gonna have brown nose Amaro, Jr. as the GM. It should be Arbuckle.

Would the Phils be sold to another ownership group? Because the current owners won't increase the payroll that much.

Remember Hamels is due for a big raise next year so that will take up much of the money that comes off the payroll for Burrell.

Plus Howard will get at least $5 mil increase.. Myers number goes up a bit and Lidge's number goes up abit as well... factor all of that in and the Burrell money and then some is all spent.

Eskin talked about it last week how everyone thinks the Phils have all this money in the offseason to spend and yet they forget that 5 or 6 players are getting nice rasies next season. So I wouldn't expect any big moves from the Phils in the offseason no matter who their GM is. Cashman can't tell the ownership how to spend their money if they don't wanna spend it.... and we all know that Ruben Jr is the GM next year with Arbuckle as an assistant or advisor.

From 08 to the 09 season

    Myers goes up 3.5 mil
    Eaton goes up 1 mil
    Utley goes up 3.5 mil
    Lidge goes up 5 mil
    Moyer is a free agent
Gordon comes off the books with 1 mil buyout
    Jenkins is up 1.25 mil
    Feliz goes up 2 mil
Victorino, Werth, Madsen are all up for arbitration as is Howard
Hamels is up in 2010 but I think he'll be pissed if he doesn't get more than 500k next year
And Burrell's 14 mil comes off the payroll.

Phils don't have as much extra money as people think.

    Utley goes up 3.5 mil

    Moyer is a free agent
Gordon comes off the books with 1 mil buyout
    Jenkins is up 1.25 mil
    Feliz goes up 2 mil
Victorino, Werth, Madsen are all up for arbitration as is Howard
Hamels is up in 2010 but I think he'll be pissed if he doesn't get more than 500k next year
And Burrell's 14 mil comes off the payroll.

Phils don't have as much extra money as people think.

Nope.. although they do finally have Thome come off the books this year :)

If you do the math, they are gonna pay out 2.25 more and still have all those players to sign.... :shakes head:

Its not like this team is bad and I would go to war with it but a few more pieces or one BIG piece would be nice

i am so sick and tired of hearing people say that. THERE IS NO SALARY CAP IN BASEBALL PEOPLE! they will have well over 3 million people walk through their turnstiles this years and buy their dollar dogs and new alternate uniforms with the ugly ass hats.

--- this team has PLENTY of money to spend. they just choose not too. ---

this run has been nice. i'm back on board (lifetime membership--just the lack of moves to jump to the next level has really frustrated the jeagler over the last few years....and the jeagler doesnt put much stock into them making the playoffs last year. the mets collapsed and we won our typical 85-90 wins like we will again this year....then we spent a grand total of 8 minutes in the playoffs). but the point remains this team, if ownership spent some cash and if gillick had any balls, should done more to put them over the top. we should have this division locked up by now. and if we get into the playoffs, you know manuel is going to find a way to screw it up.

I'd love to see an upgrade at catcher too.... not even a marquee catcher, just someone with more production than Ruiz. I really think they over-valued him going into this year.

Let's enjoy this year, and worry about the semantics in the off-season.

    Mike Redmond * MIN
    Ivan Rodriguez NYY

There's the key... the current owners are quite fine with the team and the money they are spending... and that is not going to change until they are gone... don't hold your breath.

didnt they spend like almost $100 million on this team? how much should one spend on a team?

    $209,081,577 like the Yankees?
    $137,793,376 like the Mets?
    $133,390,035 like the Red Sox?

    somewhere in between?

which ranks them where with the rest of MLB and how much did they take in this year??? All they care about is the bottom line, so if everyone runs out and buys the alternate jersey and 3 or 4 hats maybe they'll sign a solid free agent in the offseason.. if not, its Werth and Victorino and Jenkins and Golson in the outfield next season with most of the other cast back as well.

so around $140 million is what they should spend you think. when does the luxury tax kick in?
