last night was too stressful for me with bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth. i know lidge has not blown one yet but i really thought he was going to. even harry kalas said something like "don't tell me it's going to be a full count..." luckily he finished it on the next pitch.
ryan howard really is mr. september! how many games has he won for them now?!
The Red Sox wanted Burrell and a minor leaguer or two. The Phils balked on the idea.
Yeah, that's fine. I know how they don't wanna give up any of their sparse talent. Like I said, there's no way it was a straight up swap. Of course they would've done that.
The Red Sox appear serious about trading slugger Manny Ramirez and are talking to the Phillies and two other teams about a deal, according to people familiar with the talks.
The Phillies may be the front-runner for Ramirez, who has told people he probably will OK a deal to Philadelphia if the teams can agree on a trade.
It isn't yet known what players would be going back to Boston, but left fielder Pat Burrell is having a similar year statistically (.277/.400/.585 with 26 HRs and 61 RBIs in 103 games for Burrell; .304/.400/.538 with 20 HRs and 68 RBIs in 98 games for Ramirez) and could be a logical fit. He has a no-trade clause but has told the Phillies in the past that he'd be willing to waive it for the Red Sox and Yankees.
If a deal can be completed, the addition of Ramirez would give Philadelphia one of the most dangerous lineups in baseball. The Phillies offense has been struggling lately and could use a boost from the Cooperstown-bound Ramirez, who has a longstanding relationship with Phillies manager Charlie Manuel, who was Ramirez's hitting coach when the two were in Cleveland.

Burrell and a minor leaguer is pretty much straight up...it wasnt going to take much to get him at that point
He would have. In the offseason, he told the Phils the only teams he would waive the clause for was the Red Sox and Yankees.
Sucks because he's probably gonna walk this winter. But like I said, if they do then they better assure on of their outfielders, whom ever it may be, hits for 30+100. That's why I think it's a good move to go after Holliday. Can you imagine him in this ballpark? Burrell was getting what? 15-16 mil? Now assuming Holliday wants 20-22, I think they can do that.

You want to pay Holliday $20 million a year? What are we going to do about 3rd base? Catcher? Starting Pitching?
No, it's not. Not when the minor league player they want is a high prospect.
Exactly. How much do you think the 1987 Tigers wish they could take back the trade of Doyle Alexander (who pitched 2 months in Detroit and helped win the Tigers the division) but gave up John Smoltz.
Or the Red Sox who gave up Jeff Bagwell for 1 month of Larry Anderson.
I mean prospects don't always pan out but when they do they bite you in the ass for years.
How much would the Phils love to have Gavin Floyd still instead of Mr. One win for 10 million dollars Freddie Garcia?

Burrell is making 14 mil this year.
Holiday is locked up for 13.5 next season. Then he becomes a free agent.
My question is what do the Phils do with Jenkins making 7 mil next year?
Sucks, but I think they have to keep him. Especially since he's been hurt. I don't think they'll get anyone to pick that contract up. Unless they wanna eat some of it.
CC- 20 game winner
Hamels- potential 20 game winner
Myers- 15 game winner
Moyer- 15 game winner
Happ- potential 13 game winner
Thats 83 games!
Those are some bold predictions considering Myers has never won 15 games in a season and Moyer has only done it 4 times in 22 years (could be 5 this year) and will be 46 next year.
And projecting Happ to win 13 is pretty crazy as well.

That was the rumor at the trade deadline...but the Phils bailed on it due to Burrell (at the time) showing so much power...I guesss

Sucks, but I think they have to keep him. Especially since he's been hurt. I don't think they'll get anyone to pick that contract up. Unless they wanna eat some of it.
Boy is that some wishful thinking.
I thought they were both on 1 yrs...damn

Those are some bold predictions considering Myers has never won 15 games in a season and Moyer has only done it 4 times in 22 years (could be 5 this year) and will be 46 next year.
And projecting Happ to win 13 is pretty crazy as well.
