I am happy with the offseason.
They overpaid for a couple of players, but with short term contracts.
The bullpen should be much better.
I still see a couple of more deals being done. Obvious the Napoli, Laroche thing needs to be worked out.
I really think Drew will work great with Dustin.
    Looking forward to spring training.

The first Red Sox spring training game is today against the Rays here in Fort Myers. Temps should be in the mid 80's. I'll be sitting in the $5 lawn section behind the bullpen. I love living here this time of year.
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

An Opening Day win today would be just great start to the year. The Red Sox will struggle in the East with so many good teams.

LF Jackie Bradley Jr. (0-for-2) made his Major League debut, starting in left field and batting eighth in the lineup…became the first Red Sox player to debut on Opening Day against the Yankees since Tony Conigliaro in 1964, also at Yankee Stadium…walked in his first plate appearance, the first Red Sox player to reach in his first Major League plate appearance while making Opening Day debut since Joe Lahoud in 1968…collected his first RBI in the seventh inning with a one-out groundout that Will Middlebrooks scored on.
 Became the first Major Leaguer to walk at least three times in his debut since Minnesota’s Danny Ardoin in 2000…is the first Major Leaguer with at least 3BB and an RBI in his debut since Chicago-AL’s Ray Morehart in 1924. The Red Sox drew eight walks in today’s game, their most since 7/8/12 vs. the Yankees (8BB)…five of the walks came around to score.

RHP Joel Hanrahan (1.0IP) made his Red Sox debut …marked his second career Opening Day appearance (also earned the save in 2011

SS Jose Iglesias (3-for-4) tied his career high in hits (also 9/20/12 at Tampa Bay).

Wow. I know it is very early but this is a different team.
Very deep bullpen and much improved offense. Will looks like a star.
4 - 2 road trip to start the season against division rivals. Wow.

I watched today's game. Buchholz's strikeout of Adam Jones with two on and two out in the third inning really stood out as I detailed in the blog.

The team looks surprisingly good 7 games into the season. I didn't have high hopes, but I'm really starting to come around. I've already had more fun watching them this year than I did from the end of August 2011 through September 2012. The team is very likeable and they seem to be enjoying themselves. I'm not ready to predict playoff success this year, but I sure am enjoying the ride so far.
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

Aceves finally got sent down last night and Lavarnway was called up. I wouldn't be surprised if Aceves refuses to report and is cut loose. The guy is a loose cannon and can't pitch anymore. Hopefully Lavarnway can actually hit this time up. He's proven that he can hit AAA pitching, but he hasn't been able to get it done in his limited time in the majors so far.

    I agree about Aceves.

I think Lavarnway will only be up for a few days. I think he'll be sent back down on Sunday, when Lackey gets off the DL.

The Texas series this weekend is a big test for the team early in the season. If we can take 2 out of 3 against a good Rangers team, I'll be very happy. That will keep the momentum going and hopefully keep them rolling back home ready to take on the Twins next week.
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.
