Came across this random interview with Buffalo Tom's Bill Janovitz ... talking about Hot Stove Cool Music (the show with Gammons, Theo Epstein, and some Boston rockers) ...
Random quote from Bill regarding Eddie Vedder by the author ... found this appropriate to post here ...

Rockin' his Sox off
By Kathleen Pierce, kpierce@lowellsun.com

Reached at his home in Lexington, Bill Janovitz, the voice of early '90s Boston rock, is ensconced in domesticity. It's the day after Christmas and his kids are excitedly cooing in the background.
The lead singer/guitarist of Buffalo Tom breaks free to talk about his pet project: Hot Stove Cool Music. As part of the Peter Gammons All-Stars, Janovitz joins the ESPN commentator next weekend for this biannual sports charity event at the Paradise Rock Club in Boston.
Letters to Cleo, America Hi-Fi, The Figgs and Janovitz will perform with Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein on guitar. Funnyman Mike O'Malley emcees the event for Epstein's The Foundation to be Named Later, which gives money to The Home for Little Wanderers and other Boston organizations.
"There is a link between rock music and baseball. There's something more classic about baseball. It's very American. All sports have their own music. Basketball is linked more with hip-hop," said Janovitz.
Although Janovitz's song "Summer" is about Willie Mays, he doesn't want to become the guy who sings about baseball.
"John Fogerty does it, but I didn't want to go there myself," he said.
He has been involved with HSCM since early 2000, when a sportswriter from the Boston Herald came up with the rock/baseball charity.
"All the bands involved have a baseball fanatic in the band. I think musicians across the world are fans of baseball," he said.
In Buffalo Tom, Janovitz is that nut.
Growing up in New York, he was a Mets fan, but later redeemed himself. "Out of college I started to latch on to the Sox," he said.
This concert, which attracts a diverse crowd, almost outgrew the Paradise. But the gritty Boston venue is an indelible part of Hot Stove's appeal.
"To me, it's a classic place to play. It has great sightlines, great people working there ... it hits all the home runs, to use a baseball cliché."
Janovitz, who calls Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam "a good honest soul," and says the Seattle grunge gods opened for his band in 1992, is still interested in winning new fans. And after a six-year breather, Buffalo Tom is going strong. Their latest album, Up Here, came out in 2007. (Note from jimed14 - this is WRONG, their last album was called Three Easy Pieces, which came out in 2007. Up Here was Bill Janovitz' solo album which came out in 2001)
"We weren't sure we were going to go on. There was no animosity. It always felt good to play together and we didn't want to become one of those nostalgic bands that just got together to play old tunes," said Janovitz.
Now, the big question. What's it like to rock out with Theo?
"It is fun. I think he's become this larger-than-life character in Boston, for a very good reason, but he is just a kid to me. Just a kid playing guitar. It's kind of a kick to be on the same playing field with boy wonder," he said.

If Texas will pick up some of his salary ... maybe. I think he's making $10M a year through 2013, that's a bit much even if he did just win a gold glove.
He's declining at the plate, but, having that wall in left might help him like it did Mike Lowell.
The Sox would then have an all white infield ... and then, ryan198 will come in here and claim the Sox should have poited white hoods added to their uniforms."You're one of the few Red Sox fans I don't mind." - Newch91

LOL at that last comment.
The Rangers are notorious for handing out huge contracts for stars on the decline.
They bought out part of A-Rod's contract, so the precedent is there.DAL-7/5/98,10/17/00,6/9/03,11/15/13

So we locked up Youk and Pedroia for 100 mil less than the Yanks spent on Teixeira. I'll take that.
The next person they'll lock up is Papelbon.- Busted down the pretext

Great move.
I'd like to see Bay locked up also.380 -
so, he may be 38 ... and he may have spent 2 months on the DL last year ... but, he passed all his physicals and the guy has struck out about 250 batters in 190 MLB innings ... I like the Takashi Saito signing ($1.5M with incentives).
