Werth is on the block. Assume the Red Sox would be interested with their outfield situation.

Yeah, but I think the Phils are looking for major league ready starter, something the Sox probably don't want to let go of. I think the Sox might be more intersted in a middle infielder/second baseman. Who knows, the injuries have created so many holes.

True, any starter the Phillies are looking for would have to come in a 3 way trade. No one is trading a rental bat for a legit starter.

Depends on the numbers, but the smart thing would be to just pick up his option at 11 million next year. Make him perform like this for another year.

    Just so you are aware

    How MLB Playoffs Work

Eight teams make the playoffs – four each in the American and National Leagues. The three division champs and one wild card – the team with the best record that does not win a division – qualify for the postseason.

Really? Is that how it works? Jeez, I had no idea. How did that work out in 2004 Cliffy?

All purse-slapping aside, the Yankees are in big trouble with their pitching staff right now. I don't read all of your comments on the Yankee thread, but I know you guys must be at least a little concerned about Andy, Burnett and Vazquez. Where's all the Phil Hughes Cy Young talk now? I have no doubt Tampa will be the odd man out. And yes, I would be worried if I were the Yankees about the Sox coming back from the dead and winning the division, finishing the job in the ALCS.

I am not too concerned as long as Pettitte can come back healthy. Hughes will go to the pen and be fine. He is 24 years old, they have rough patches. Burnett needs to get his shit together but I am not real concerned with any of the others. Remember how they won last year. The staff is much deeper this year.

Plus the Yanks are apparantly in on the Haren talks, which I don't think I like but CC, Haren, Burnett, Pettitte, Javy would be pretty good.

CC, Haren, Burnett, Andy and Javy? Pretty solid. However, is that better than Lester, Beckett, Lackey, Bucchhhccchholz and Dice? I don't think so.

Dude, have you not been paying attention? Three of the 5 have missed extended periods. We have lost 6 of our starting 9 position players for extended periods. I love it how the Yankees fans still don't get this. Not just you Cliffy, but my two buddies who are Yankee fans. Congrats, your 7 games up on a triple A team right now.

I got that and honestly, I have been paying a lot more attention to Tampa recently for obvious reasons ;) . Lackey has more walks already then he did all of last year. No one is scared of Dice-K, and do you know what you are going to get out of Beckett?

I understand the faulty nature of Lackey this season, and I know nobody is scared of Dice, but he's won big games in the playoffs before, so I don't think he should be overlooked. You're right, we don't know what we'll get from Joshy, we'll have a better idea after tonight, but this kid has always been big and I expect him to have 11-12 strong starts before October. Buccholz is a question mark but he's clearly entered a new level this year. And Lester, well...nobody can say anything bad about Lester. He is the rock.
