Yeah, Dutch apparently has a theory that the world is going to end in soon. During spring training, you can spot him at any bar in clearwater.

Way to go Rollins & Howard for bailing out our bullpen last night. Myers can't come back soon enough. Let's get the sweep today and hope those Mets lose one so we can gain ground. Only 2 back from the Wild Card.

I remember that interview with Dutch. He said he could talk to lizards if he put his mind to it. I think homeboy took some acid back in the day, on top of being a booze-bag.



The Phillies team is interesting, though. Howard and Utley could very well be 1, 2 for MVP at the moment.

BTW, the would-be MVP of the NL, Chase Utley is on the DL with a broken hand. Thats just about all she wrote for the Phillies playoff chances.

he sounds optimistic, but it doesn't look good. even if he's "only" out for a month (best-case scenario), it's really going to hurt the team's stride...

PAT THE BAT please stand up please stand up. not a bad start like the new lineup from tonight. last august we were 18-11 and Utley wasn't hitiing well 250 something i think. damn i hate having a little hope still when i know its almost over.

how do philly fans feel about acquiring kyle lohse for matt maloney?

I guess with the rotation in the state it is the phillies managment figured they had to make the trade.

Lohse will solidify that 5th spot in the rotation a bit. Durbin can go to the bullpen in Madsen's place.

Hope Bourn & Victorino aren't out too long.

9 out of 10, and 4 straight without chase. Hope they keep it up.

CHICAGO -- The Phillies traded for a reliever on Tuesday, with the news coming within half an hour of the 4 p.m. non-waiver trade deadline.
Philadelphia sent Minor League infielder Jesus Merchan to the Mariners for right-hander Julio Mateo, who appeared in nine games for Seattle this season before being sent to Triple-A Tacoma following a domestic violence charge.

Mateo posted a 0.79 ERA in 24 games with Tacoma.

Mateo is facing a domestic violence charge stemming from an incident with his wife at a New York hotel in May. Mateo is accused of hitting his wife and biting her on the lip. He is scheduled to appear in court again in September.

He was suspended for several days without pay following the charge and assigned to Tacoma, where he has pitched well.




Sounds like he will be a good fit in the city of Brotherly Love!!!

He'll fit in well in our bullpen with Mesa & Myers. 0.79 ERA is pretty nice. Nice enough to overlook a domestic assault charge? Not sure. We'll see how well he does in the Bigs.

I hope they make the playoffs. I have lived here forever and I have NEVER been to a baseball postseason game . I have however been in all 3 other sports.

damn how old are you??? I've lived here all my life and been to quite a few postseason games.

I'm 27, and the only chance I've had to attend a Phils post season game was in '93 when I was 13. Did not make it, and am now dying to see them in the playoffs.

I'm crossing my fingers that Howard is just saving his energy for a monster September. I'm talking like a 20+ HR month.

Good win last night to start the homestand. Figure we need to go 7-3 to stay in contention. 2 out of 3 against LA, 2 out of 3 against SD, and 3 out of 4 against the Mets. (Would love to go 8-2, and sweep the overrated Mets, but with our injuries, it may be a little tough)

Can't wait for Pedro to get back for the Mets, I think he'll actually work in the Phils favor.

I didnt make it in 93' either. When was the last time besides that that they made it to the playoffs? That was 15 years ago.
