With a man on second base who would you want hitting.. if there is 2 outs and the game is tied in game 7 of the world series..12th inning

    C.Jones
    C.Beltran
    C.Delgado
    D.Wright
    A.Jones
    B.McCann

    ?

From that list, I'd take Delgado. As much as I hate the Mets, Delgado is an incredible hitter, and I expect him to hit one out every time up

As for Clemens, the Yankees are not like The Mutts, who go out every year and buy the biggest free agent. This is a team that develops from within.

You can't be serious. Your saying that the Mets are wild irresponsible spenders and The Yankees develop from within. I can't even believe what I'm reading. You obviously don't know much about the recent history of your team or the Mets. The Mets have made overwhelmingly good financial decisions as the Yankees piled up a junkyard of old overpriced one dimensional players. I really thought you knew your stuff too. I'm stunned.

I was being half sarcastic and half serious. Yes the yankees got crazy with the free agents in the recent past (and didn't win anything since they started this free agent binge after the 2001 season). But they're really not doing that anymore. In the last 2 years, they brought in Damon and Pettitte, while letting Sheffield & Johnson go, as well as a few other mistakes. They actually are looking to the farm system nowadays. Guys like Cano and Wang wouldn't have gotten a shot 5 years ago. Back in 03 they would have shipped out a few prospects for some overpriced bum if Damon and Matsui got hurt in the fist week of the season. But really, for the most part, i just wanted to say that to piss off Met fans....

How about an easy one today? Lets pile it on early, and clean out the back of the pen. The main guys are getting too much work.

I'm kinda glad the Mets lose sometimes.
I was worried the season might get too boring.

Two rainouts in a row. Makes for an easier April, but the summer or stretch run may feel a little tougher when there's a couple of new 4/5 game series on the schedule.

Enjoy the rest and get ready to pick up the series against Philly this week.

Beating the Phillies does not get old.

I only wish Monday's game hadn't been rained out so the Mets could've beaten them some more this week.

Nice job by Glavine to get #293.

    Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is the funniest thing I've ever read! The Yanks fucking wrote the book on going out and buying the biggest free agent!

This is definitely the stupidest remark I've ever seen on this board.

Way to jump on Dontrelle early and continue the winning road trip.

DWright set a Mets club record with a hit in his 25th consecutive game.

Am I the only one who actually likes to talk about the games instead of caving-in to the non-Mets fans baiting us to foolish discussions? C'mon Mets fans, I like talking about what our team is doing on the field, right now.

For me personally, the lull is due to the hockey playoffs. Come July, I'll be a lot more vocal. I'm still a bit hungover from game 7 against the Cardinals to be honest.

Didn't pick up on the sarcasm at all, huh? Not even after I pointed that out a few posts later? Seriously though, name me the "biggest free agents" the yankees had on their 1996-2000 WS winning teams.

Nice comeback for the Mets in 6th. Too bad Tommy had to be taken out and won't get the win.

Its very easy to claim sarcasm afterwards on a message board, but I would go ahead and call bullshit on this one. Also, if you were actually just being sarcastic, than why would you challenge us to name big free agents, unless you actually believed what you were talking about?

I think it was a mixture of things. Even though they ended up scoring 6 runs, the Mets had many opportunities to score and didn't. Beltran and Wright not getting hits was a pretty big factor in this loss too.
But I agree, there was no reason to take out Burgos.

Yeah, you got me. I was really lying to you about being sarcastic.

And this time, I'll claim sarcasm immediately. And let me help you with the list

Jimmy Key signed as a free agent after the 1992 season. Yeah, big splash for the big bad yankees, who sucked in 1992.

Cecil Fielder Traded by the Detroit Tigers to the New York Yankees for Ruben Sierra and Matt Drews (minors).

David Cone Traded by the Toronto Blue Jays to the New York Yankees for Marty Janzen, Jason Jarvis (minors), and Mike Gordon (minors).

John Wettland Traded by the Montreal Expos to the New York Yankees for Fernando Seguignol and cash.

Tino Traded by the Seattle Mariners with Jim Mecir and Jeff Nelson to the New York Yankees for Russ Davis and Sterling Hitchcock

Brosious Sent by the Oakland Athletics to the New York Yankees to complete an earlier deal made on November 7, 1997. The Oakland Athletics sent a player to be named later to the New York Yankees for Kenny Rogers and cash. The Oakland Athletics sent Scott Brosius (November 18, 1997) to the New York Yankees to complete the trade.

Denny Neagle Traded by the Cincinnati Reds with Mike Frank to the New York Yankees for Ed Yarnall, Drew Henson, Brian Reith, and Jackson Melian

Chuck Knoblauch Traded by the Minnesota Twins to the New York Yankees for Brian Buchanan, Cristian Guzman, Eric Milton, Danny Mota, and cash.

    tbc....

Dwight Gooden Signed as a Free Agent with the New York Yankees.

Wade Boggs Signed as a Free Agent with the New York Yankees

David Wells Signed as a Free Agent with the New York Yankees

Roger Clemens Traded by the Toronto Blue Jays to the New York Yankees for Homer Bush, Graeme Lloyd, and David Wells.

8 of the 12 listed were acquired via trade. And Key was brought in in 1993.

Thanks for proving my point for me. Which is, The Yankees that won all those World Series were in fact built from within, with some great trades, and a few relatively minor, but key, free agent signings. The Yankees of late, the perennial division winneing, playoff disappointments, have been built on signing the biggest name out there, and it obviously hasn't worked. I think they're mostly getting away from that, with the exception of the ridiculous Igawa deal.
  • wtf????? is up with wright saying that he wants a-rod on the mets. a-rod sucks

hey remember this, when all the Met fans were saying how Wright is better than ARod? Good times, indeed.

hey remember this, when all the Met fans were saying how Wright is better than ARod? Good times, indeed.

I see the frustration is getting to you FH, and I don't really care if they brought the team or mortgaged young talent to get a bunch of aging overpriced players. The fact remains that its a wack way of running a team, and the seeds were sown for the overpriced underproducing mess you've had on your hands since 00. And yes, I do realize as you Yankee fans love to point out that you've been to the playoffs every year, but is that really the name of the game in Yankee-land, Is it?
