yeah Phillies good hitting club also, but their pitching is not as deep as ours and the marlins i know nothing about so i have to take a closer look at their team........

They just have a lot of youth that looks good. I think they may be good a few years down the line, but not yet.

You really think that? I'd take the Phillies staff over the Mets staff right now. The Mets have some serious issues with their starters, I would not feel very comfortable with that staff as it's built right now. I know they have a very good bullpen, but how good will they be later in the season if the starters can only go 5 innings or so? I'd take the depth of the Phillies staff right now with six starting pitchers (one guy into the bullpen), a solid bullpen and Flash.

The Phillies do get the edge in starting pitching, but keep this in mind; if the Mets need another pitcher Omar will do whatever it takes to get the right guy, and we hope to have Pedro fresh for the stretch run. I can't see this Mets team not making the playoffs. After that, its a matter of momentum. Should be fun!

i hope pelfrey gets a shot. i think he's gonna be a great pitcher.

I think he's the darkhorse to make a difference on the pitching staff. I got to see him at Wichita State in college and he's legit. Hopefully he can break in there. He looked good last season.

Offense isn't the question. That's set.

Pitching remains to be seen. That will be the difference.

the rotation is fine, alot of people are doubting perez, maine and pelfrey. im not one of them, i think they will really surprise alot of people this year. its the bullpen that omar is gonna have to get help for

I agree. I think Maine, if not this year, will be a great pitcher, and I think Perez and Pelfrey will both be solid. My main concern is that they had an amazing bullpen last year that really carried the team, and without we would have not come near 97 wins. This years bullpen however does not give me confidence that it can really carry the team.

If we can at least tread water until Mota, and Sanchez rejoin the pen, we'll be stronger than last year. Feliciano, Showenweiss, Heilman, and Wagner all look strong. And if Burgos falters, Joe Smith is looking awesome. I don't believe the pen will be an issue at all.

and I am confident about Maine. However, to expect good seasons from him, Perez, and Pelfrey is a bit presumptious. I'd settle for 2 out of 3, and then test the trade waters and/or pray for a speedy recovery by Pedro.

The lineup is stacked, and the bench will do.

Yea, I don't know, I think that there is the possibility for all three to have solid seasons. Hopefully Maine will have a very good season. If we can get an average of 9 or 10 wins between those three guys, we'll be in good shape.

come on mets. how difficult a game is baseball that you need someone to tell you what's happening? do you get commentary when you're at the ballpark?

Miller was horrendous. How about his pronunciation of Beltran's name

    *BEL-TRON*

but a solid win. Wasn't quite sure why Willie messed around with Joe Smith in that 8th inning situation, but it worked out. Start Smith off in 6th-7th inning situations and let him build.
Even Shawn Green looked half decent, Glavine was fine, and they did what was needed

Count me as one who's concerned about the starting rotation. We're hanging our first-half hopes on two guys who are 40+, two guys saw their first real action in the majors last year, and one rebuilding project. The bullpen is in good shape and may be the rock in terms of the arms on the team.

I have all the faith in the world in Omar, so I don't expect the Mets to crash and burn in this starter experiment. But I would like to see him ready to make swift moves if this Glavine-Hernandez-Maine-Perez-Pelfrey cycle doesn't get it done. Also, I won't believe Pedro can help this team until I see him step out on the mound and actually do it.

The starting lineup and bench are in really good shape. I like that they're keeping Milledge up with the club to start the year. If he gets some good ABs early and stays on the roster, he may be the centerpiece of a deal for more pitching later in the year. Also, Easley and Chavez are going to be such invaluable parts of this team.

Add in Willie and his excellent ability to put his players in positions to succeed and I think we've got ourselves another Division Championship. I don't think it will be a runaway like last year, but they'll still notch about 92 wins.

Crisp game tonight. Another flawless start,
    great defense, and timely hitting.
Now, we'll get to test out the ever
    questioned back of the rotation.

Nice win by the Mets. I'm in the Cardinals' broadcast area for FSN. It was especially satisfying, as a Pirates fan, to see Kip Wells lose for somebody not Pittsburgh. I can't imagine Looper should give the Mets much trouble tomorrow. The defending World Champs have a shaky rotation at the moment.

couldn't ask for a better game.
took a while to break through, but when we did
    like lightning in a bottle
    almost everyone contributed,
and the back of the bullpen got some work
