I haven't slept in a long time so I may be missing something but it seems to me your best case scenario is not possible. If the D-backs win the division and the Padres get the wild card, then they cant face each other in the first round because they are in the same division. The same reason the Mets won't face the Phillies in the first round if they get the wild card. So the Mets would end up playing San Diego whether the have the best or second best record in the NL.

    Oops. Good catch.

Then forget what I said about best record. I still think those three teams are the best combination for Mets' success in the Playoffs.

So, I'm making the trip from Philly up to NY tomorrow for the game (not looking to start any trouble, just always fun to go to an away game once in a while - besides I know the Mets have the division locked up already). Are there any decent bars to go to after the game to watch some college football?

head on over to 126th street ...... just kidding.

there are a couple places under the el on the other side of the parkway, but not much.

in the future, look for the area that will be beyond right field to be a nice place to go, but for the time being, stay far away from that area, which includes 126th street. took an out of towner thru there last week and he thought he was in a third world country.
I don't want to be hostile. I don't want to be dismal. But I don't want to rot in an apathetic existance either.

You KNOW what's new. Don't play dumb with us. Look at the standings and you'll see why we haven't been posting here. ;)

It's getting tense in Amazin-land, but our guys are still in first place. If they can only find a way to beat the Nationals and the Marlins (the 4th and 5th place teams, respectively), they'll be alright.

    Let's play like a first-place team, Mets!

Whew! The lead is up to 2 1/2.

A little bit of breathing room provided tonight by David Wright's bat and--surprise--Mike Pelfrey and the bullpen's arms. The Cardinals helped a bit by beating the Phillies in extra innings.

I'm definitely encouraged by the Mets' final games being against the Marlins and Nats (and one against the Cards), while the Phillies must deal with a slightly stiffer challenge of playing the Braves in between Nats series.

This thing could come down to the final games. Here's to the Mets finishing strong and maintaining their first place standing!

Now that the Amazins don't have the best record in the NL, there's an extra notch of importance in winning the division. Winning the wildcard might prove to be more difficult than securing the division lead, especially with San Diego currently having the same record as the Mets.

All the more reason to take care of business against the Marlins this weekend, then come home for the final seven games.

    It's crunch-time. Let's Go Mets!

  • This would mean more to me if it were coming from Fred. Jeff is just a member of the lucky sperm club like Jim Dolan. He has done NOTHING in the game of baseball aside from being born a Wilpon. If his name was Jeff Smith, does anyone think he would be anything more than a groundskeeper for the Mets?

yeah man, crunch time indeed, i cant believe how pants-shittingly-close the phillies are coming considering they were more than 6 back last week. losing the 2 to washington the way they did is embarrasing and they better come out of the next week and a half nearly flawless considering its all florida and washington (well, plus one against the cardinals). the mets can still easily win homefield advantage for the nlcs.

same way they gave up such a lead in their division. they forgot what they were doing. thinking it'll all work out in the end and they'll cruise into the playoffs and still be contenders. they are not palying like a championship team i'm afraid. too hot and cold.

It's not enough that they blew a three-run lead early in the game. They had to come back for an repeat encore in the 9th.

I was at work, glued to the television set. A customer and fellow Mets fan comes by and asks about the game. We watched Marlon Anderson stroke that triple to deep right center and high-fived because we knew it was over.

I couldn't turn the sound up, nor did I bother reading any press on the game, but why wasn't Wagner called on? Is it because of his work load over the past week? I mean, two innings in the last seven games is a bitch, ain't it?

WTF, Willie? The best reliever you've got sat idly by and watched the self-destruction with a front-row seat. It's management like this that has stunted the Mets growth towards another World Series appearance.

But still I come back for more. Win tonight, dammit! Let's Go Mets!

    .

EDIT: I forced myself to look at a game story and box score. I see that Wagner had back spasms. But still...you've got to find a way to beat Dontrelle, considering the terrible year he's been having.

Currently up 5-1 in the sixth over the Marlins.

call me crazy, stupid, daring, or brilliant, but I picked the Jets as my pick ina suicide pool. 1 loss and you're out. If they win, I'll still have a whole bunch of good teams available for later in the year

yeah they should win, the jets dont suck, they actually have a legit shot to make the playoffs, they just played two really good teams their first two weeks, and almost beat the ravens so im keeping my hopes up for a jets wild card run

EDIT: Mets finally back on the winning track, its about time, figured id add that just to keep this post relevant to the thread haha
