Two of three from the Braves. I'll not complain about that.

Here come the Pirates for three, with Johan set to greet them at the door.

Mets vs. Mariners on 6/23. So far, the best suggestion has been to buy tickets in the upper levels for cheap. Feel free to add to the discussion.

    Let's Go Mets!

I'm going to take the unpopular stance of agreeing with delgado for standing up to this booing culture. they boo him for three weeks, guy hits two home runs and they like him again. it's rather phony. he's on your team for this year and you're either with him or you're not.

I could understand if the guy has a career that sucks or underachieves but for the most part he hasn't. He's just getting older and while the home runs might not come as often as they did two years ago, he's still going to hit them.

I totally agree. Also, if you heard/read Delgado's interview after the game, it was clear that he wasn't even trying to ignore the fans. He just thought that it was a close game, and that it wasn't the right time to go make a curtain call. I think that it was fine not go out.

Two more things. The booing has to stop. Its still only a month in, and I hate the idea of booing players on my team. Unless they have just sucked it up for all season, and continue to suck it up. Also, the booing should only come at the after they fuck up. Not before. If Heilman is sucking (which he is) boo him after he fucks up, not because he's been fucking up. If you have to boo.

Second, enough with this Delgado story. Its been blown way, way out of proportion. I think everyone would have forgotten about it two seconds later, if EVERY single reporter/announcer hadn't kept talking about it.

    /End rant.

It was nice to see the Mets take 2/3 from the Braves. Hopefully we can go for a sweep against the Pirates. Can't wait to see Johan pitch again.

I definitely heard it, I was standing around him postgame and i didn't even mention it, except putting in that he heard cheers from the same fans that had booed him earlier in the game.

im so sick of these fucking pussies crying everytime we boo them, welcome to NEW YORK CITY.course where gonna boo if you go 4-49. these met players are as soft as they have been in recent years. theres no fire in this team. as for wright saying to delgado dont go out there, thats totally false. if you look at the clip you will see delgado has a bat in his hand and there talking bout hitting. oh and i lost alota respect for darling for making a big deal bout the curtain call, who cares ron. your just adding more fuel for us met fans. i also think its the fans being very pissed for the past 5 years of hearing oh this team is gonna go to the world sersis year after year and always finding a way to come up short.
And he still gives his love, he just gives it away, The love he receives is the love that is saved, And sometimes is seen a strange spot in the sky, A human being that was given to fly

Yup, it works both ways..We can boo all we want and he has every right to not acknowledge the curtain call...

Did you get your promotional foam finger? They should have given one out that has the middle finger for the players to boo and one with a regular finger for the players to cheer..

I definitely would have taken a middle finger one..haha...

And it never fails, there is always at least one moron around me who gets thrown out of the game..This particular dude was a drunk Braves fan who almost got tossed off the upper reserved section by equally obnoxious drunk Met fans :)..

Btw X, do you have an idea why these games against the Braves were the least expensive of the season? I mean, every other weekend game at Shea is minimum $20 to $25 for Uppers when this weekend the same seats were only $10..

First of all. Don't call me a pussy. The reason I don't like people booing their own team, is because of respect. I respect them, and give them and want to support them. And what does being from NYC have to do with anything. Talk about a nonsequitor. I'm just as frustrated by Delgado, Heilman, etc, but I'm not gonna boo them because I respect and support them.

But whatever, its not even worth arguing with someone who thinks that people who don't boo are "pussies".

By the by, I just want to end this argument now and cleanly so that this thread stays on target and doesn't get deleted.

Mets wise, tonights game is rained out. Does this mean Johan won't pitch against Arizona? If so, that would be bad.

I have no idea why those change. I'd think they'd charge more for the Braves given the history between the teams over the years. Of course that pricing level stuff always has a risk such as making a team that turns out to be really bad one of the higher priced games because or a team with a certain player and then that guy doesn't even play due to injury.

This comes from Marty Noble's mailbag on the mets website and his answer is pretty dead-on in my opinion

As a lifelong Mets fan, I would like to address the constant booing coming from the fans. It is not a reflection of the entire fan base. Personally, I think people who understand baseball know that it is only April and things can turn around. The booing is a result of the bandwagon effect, and I think that it needs to stop for the sake of the team. I was curious as to your thoughts on it.
    -- John A., Glen Head, N.Y.

Booing at Shea Stadium has become endemic and borderline shameful. Most folks who never have played the game at any level higher than Babe Ruth -- and I certainly am one of them -- have little sense of how difficult the game is to play. They appreciate success and demand it at all times. It's as if they believe a 25-0 season or .480 batting average would happen if the players put more effort into their performances.

Because fans have the right to boo, they seemingly think it is their responsibility to boo, and they boo because they can. My sense of it is that a couple of thousand malcontents, still bruised by the events of last September, express themselves at nearly every opportunity -- even a leadoff groundout to short in the first inning. Then the followers follow as if booing is contagious.

I suspect most of the boo birds would kill for an autograph and gush if they were to meet the same player they booed an hour earlier. The increased dissatisfaction among fans, I think, is prompted to some degree by the millions players earn and the intolerance for anything but success expressed by sports talk radio.

Those shows harp on one or two isolated plays. One topic -- one misplay -- will be reviewed for 30 minutes. Even the hosts repeat themselves. If newspaper or Web sites were to react in the same way, you would read the same three paragraphs 20 times.

The concentrated criticism and ridicule creates a distorted view of a play or the player(s) involved, and that misperception carries over to the people who attend games. More than ever, fans want to be part of the game, part of the in-stadium experience. I don't understand. When I was a kid, I went to the ballpark to watch. I cheered the good plays and recognized the bad. I'm sure I booed a call I didn't like. I'm sure my father or uncle didn't allow me to boo anything else.

New York likes to think of itself as a tough town. And I believe every high-profile, new player is tested by the fans; witness the boos for Johan Santana. Kevin McReynolds, a fine player, was booed far more often than he deserved. After he left the Mets, he said New York fans want a player to succeed, but if success doesn't happen, the fans' second preference is for abject failure.

I don't think he was off the mark in that assessment.

i dont think he wasnt wrong either. but this is nyc, go 4-49 anywhere else and people wont care. met fans are love/hate people. i also think its alota the frathead type fan that boo and the newer generation of fans. the die hard met fan wont boo and if they are there very wrong. i have never boo'ed any player and i went to games where the team was flat out was a triple a ball club.this whole thing wouldnt have been issue had darling made a big deal bout. its nothing in the grand scheme of things. the choke last year still is in our minds and will be till we win the world sersis

understandable, but it's not like the current group are a bunch of scumbags like the 1992, 1993 mets, who had players that didn't really give a damn and were worthy of booing.

i agree but look at the times. i cant relate to the players as i possibly could in 90s.the money players make today is just outta this world. i mean lets be real if players today care bout booing theres something wrong. but those teams of the 90's werent superstars that were expected to deliver a world sersis 5 years in a row. this team has always come up short. the nlcs 06 when beltran looked at 3 pitches and didnt take his bat off his shoulder still stings a little and last year was just even worse.i hate to say it but omar needs to bring in a coach and gritty players that wanna play and arent softies. theres no ray knight or nails on this team. hell even the 99-00 teams played with fire

I am not the biggest Marty Noble fan, but I think this is pretty much dead on.

i agree but look at the times. i cant relate to the players as i possibly could in 90s.the money players make today is just outta this world. i mean lets be real if players today care bout booing theres something wrong. but those teams of the 90's werent superstars that were expected to deliver a world sersis 5 years in a row. this team has always come up short. the nlcs 06 when beltran looked at 3 pitches and didnt take his bat off his shoulder still stings a little and last year was just even worse.i hate to say it but omar needs to bring in a coach and gritty players that wanna play and arent softies. theres no ray knight or nails on this team. hell even the 99-00 teams played with fire

There definitely needs to be more fire. And I think Jose Reyes bringing back the dancing is an important step in that direction. And the more I think about it, the more I think this is not the type of team that needs a stoic leader like Randolph. I think he has the potential to be a good/great manager, but not for this team. He just doesn't mesh right.

i def love the old reyes is back. i loved the rest of the league hated us last year cause we were cocky and had.i totally agree bout willie, willie is a bench coach. i feel shitty for saying this cause of who the guy is and cause willie is a great person and all. but willie needs to go and soon, this team needs a coach who has fire. theres no passion from a coach and i love a coach like bobby v or pinella. maybe willie getting the axe will be a wake up call for the players that hey your next.

That typo right there looks strangely familiar. I know of someone who often did that in threads about the Mets.
